Wow, I've never bought a Battlefield game but I might be day one on this.. I've often thought it would be cool to have a Battlefield or a Call of Duty set in WWI or WWII where you play multiple characters in multiple branches of the military, and this looks to be almost exactly what this is. Can't wait to see more.

Ok, awesome idea and all, but I want to see some actual gameplay. The possibility of destructing whole buildings is awesome though, loved that in BFBC2. Thanks for bringing it back, DICE!

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed that it looked like it was an American focus when they were barely in the war. If that's the case, I've just read up about the HH and super excited if it's really about them.

I don't think so. They mentioned several theaters that the Americans weren't involved in. We saw two American characters out of the rumored 6 episodes. I think you're getting a good diverse amount of gameplay.

Clearly lots of people happy with their choice to go with WW1. Personally wont be buying it, cant stand games set in that era.

I don't find it offensive at all, and hopefully when we see actual gameplay it at least covers some of the brutality of infantry warfare of that time period. I wasn't expecting This War of Mine: WW1 Edition.

I was just responding to your claim that because WW2 had the Holocaust the infantry fighting in the two wars is comparable.

I wasn't trying to literally compare the Holocaust to what you actually play in the BF1, just that there is terrible subject matter in all wars (and that hundreds of games before turned them into shallow action set pieces). I get what you're saying about the infantry conditions being horrible in WWI though.

This is the end of CoD.
That was 98% non gameplay CG cinematic, that small snippit of gameplay looked like battlefront, just not that impressive.

So back to that dice dev bashing COD. Hey COD at least showed mostly single player gameplay.

We all wish we could get CG level in actual gameplay. But no.

If the campaign is good, I'm in.

Not a fan of Call of Duty or Battlefield and the CoD trailer did nothing for me as I've expected. This BF1 trailer however has got me hyped, even though I'm still sick of WW1/2 settings and usually a sucker for anything sci-fi. I'm cautiosly optimistic for now.

So if Xbox is getting marketing and this game is biggest on PlayStation, I wonder if Song is getting TF2 for PS4 / PS4 Neo version.

I wish publishers would stop putting numbers in their game names that have nothing to do with the game's place in the series. It's almost as bad as calling your reboot "Thief" or "Need for Speed". It makes Google searching for the first game in the series a pain in the ass.

But battlefield doesn't have a 1 before.

What kind of excuse is that? "It's a game". The medium doesn't matter, the execution does

Just like how Saving Private Ryan tried to show brutal and chaotic storming the beach was, and in turn inspired the approach those WW2 shooters took

I thought this would be an amazing thing to do, take a AAA game with a AAA budget and actually explore some of the more somber, sobering tones and idioms that we associate with war and really use the graphical and FPS fidelity we have in modern gaming to showcase the utter brutality and pointless violence that WWI was.

I think it's such a tremendously wasted use of the setting.

Don't you remember the first Bad Company? I hope it wasn't a fluke and they can actually pull of another good campaign.

Campaign in Battlefield Bad Company 1 was good.
Its still the best campaign compared the other BF campaigns imo.

It is the only really good one. I did complete Bad Company 2 but it isn't half the fun as the first game is.

is ww1 a unique theme or something why everyone is so excited?

Im lost here. Help me out.

It's been nearly 10 years since a AAA WW1/2 based game
Not only that but people are also bored of the BF3/4 formula and want something more akin to 1942/BC2/etc

Right, and there's a right way to do what you two are asking for, but why on earth would you expect this from DICE, given their track record? They use various wars to make games that are fun and have intriguing gameplay, not as somber/realistic depictions of war. And they aren't the first to do this so I really don't get why the criticism is coming now.

Unless the debate is over "should we be doing this in gaming?", which is something else entirely..

There have been no AAA big-budget WWI games of any kind. To suddenly have a legit no-catch WWI game on the Frostbite engine is amazing. The fact that it's focusing on so many of the War's different fronts will both put the whole "WWI was just trench warfare so a game wouldn't" thing to rest and provide some very interesting things to play in.

It's so much more interesting than just another future warfare game or modern warfare game.

There is no way it will outsell both, EA will push the next Titanfall hard and it will have the spring for itself.

Even in the context of a single console launch, I don't recall Titanfall setting the world on fire. And COD comes with a remaster of MW this time around. I'm not convinced it's as forgone a conclusion as you're making it seem.

Bad Company 2

This is the point I was making. As much as I love Battlefield, the last two campaigns have ranged from mediocre to straight up awful. I'm not convinced DICE will be able to deliver on the single player front.
