How much of a difference is there between the Air, Air 2, and Pro? I really only want to play board and card games (and Titan Quest when that comes out). I also plan to read comics on it. I can get a 32 gig Air for $350, a 64 gig Air 2 for $500, or a 32 gig Pro for $600. Normally the "newer/better" version is what I go towards, but I'm weighing the costs right now. If the Air has a good screen for comics and will run all the board/card games I want, I don't see the benefit of spending an extra $150.

Anyone gaming on an Air have any complaints?

The Air is probably fine. Haven't had an issue for the most part. However it is a few years old and th Air 2 has 2Gb of RAM which will make it a lot better for multitasking and web browsing.

Have you checked the refurb store on Apple.com? You can get a 64GB iPad2 for $419. That's what I'd do.

How is the refurb stuff from Apple? I was going to pick up an Air 2 today over lunch, but if I can get a refurb Air 2 and be hassle free...

I bought an Apple refurb iPad 2 back in the day and it looked brand new. No dust under the screen, scratches, scuffs, etc.

I was pretty impressed and felt like I got a new product for less money.

We have an iPad 2 and I bought a Mini 4 in March. I love it. I think the mini is just right for gaming, as reaching for buttons on the larger screen can be difficult sometimes depending on the games you play. I've been reading PDF's of technical books on it, as well as comics, it works great and I really just enjoy using the device. I will say that I was partial to the smaller form factor, and that made the choice easy for me, while it seems like you are leaning to the larger device. I like the iPad Mini 4 size much better than my Nexus 7, I rarely feel cramped or out of room on the mini 4, although it does happen occasionally mostly when browsing the web, not reading books or playing games.

I don't know if that helps your decision at all, just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents after agonizing over which tablet to buy not long ago. Added bonus, it looks like Best Buy has them on sale now for Mother's Day, 64gb Mini 4 is $399, or $499 for the Air 2.

MB, have you gotten a chance to play Never Gone yet?

Been reading conflicting things, but despite having some high cost items, the dev is saying IAPs are not required.

Decided to go ahead and bite on Never Gone. Great artwork and impressive move set to start (hoping it grows with more combos). Only played first two levels so too early to judge IAPs. Translation definitely needs some work but pretty solid hack n slash so far.

Dont think Hexcells was properly tested on Retina display iPads. Lots of blurry icons and stuff before you get into the actual levels. Glad to have this on iPad though.

If I'm not mistaken Apple products that are refurbished have all new outsides. Everything you see and touch is new. The internals are also tested thoroughly(unlike the mass produced products on store shelves) , so imho you are actually getting a superior product.

Maestria is currently free. It looks like a Monument Valley clone due to the art style but it's a much different game.

You need to place yourself at the correct position to send out a wave that rings three colored bells, which also have to be rung in the same order as they are at the beginning of the level. Pretty clever game. No IAPs.

Man, those guys are so good at design. Really loved the alpha test they did for Card Thief. Definitely will get this.

But if you're looking for serious pinball physics, I don't think you'll find it here.

Picked up Inks. If you're looking for a straight-up pinball game, you won't find it here. This is an artistic minimalist puzzler first and foremost, with a pinball mechanic.

Crabitron is a lot of fun, and used multitouch in a smart way

Shadowmatic is simple and tactile to play, gorgeous, and works wonderfully on a big screen

Egz is charming, polished, and easy to play

It came down to money. $400 for a 64 gig mini that would be more than adequate for what I wanted to use it for right now seemed smart. My wife is loving it, too. The iPad 2 was really showing its age, so this was a smart upgrade. I called it s mother's day gift from our puppies, so that won extra brownie points, ha.

Great choice, I'm sure you will love it.

My wife and I have been playing Patchwork, it's a Quilt making board game for 2 players, but don't let the premise scare you off it's a fun game. It's only $3, we have the digital and physical editions of this game.

Not sure if you just want single player games you can pass and play... These are pass and play that we enjoy: Ascension, Small World 2, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Yomi, and Food Fight.

Oh man, I LOVE Patchwork. Physical copy is a lot of fun, but it takes up a weird amount of table space.

How does Ticket to Ride work with pass and play? Or really any of these games with "hidden information"? I was going to grab Suburbia as well since it's probably my favorite board game, but I'm worried about the secret goal stuff and whatever.

Cloud Chasers is down to a $1.99 (from $3.99).

Was on the fence on this one at launch and it seemed to get a somewhat tepid reception, considering the original hype.

Any thoughts from those who have played it?

I was watching the Stellarid quick look on GiantBomb and I was thinking that it would be pretty cool to play something like that on my iPad. Is there something that might be similar to that? Like, an empire building with strategic and role playing elements to it.

Paradox has stated they're considering iPad ports of Stellaris, Crusader Kings 2, and their other grand strategy games. Even had a few surveys asking what people think

As for current games, Starbase Orion is considered the best space 4x on mobile, while King of Dragon Pass is a fantastic fantasy take. Autumn Dynasty Warlords combines RTS with 4x

Well Stellaris is actually two genres. 4x in the beginning and then shifts to grand strategy. There aren't really any grand strategy games on mobile, so you'll have to stick with 4x (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate)

I really wish I could play Pathfinder on my 6S. It's infuriating having the screen real estate but them not allowing you to give it a go.

'Soon' (Obsidian via Twitter).

It's even more infuriating knowing that Android doesn't have the 'block' so you can install it on phones.
It's just the tablet version miniaturized, not ideal, but if you know the cards you can play.

I'm told they are tweaking the UI to be more phone friendly.
I can't wait...I need the iPhone version to play at work and when the iPad recharges :p
