Battlefield 1 Reveal Trailer, PC/PS4/XB1, Oct 21st [Up2: Screens, Info, Open Beta]

I was thinking before the leaks that the next Battlefield game would be 2143. This looks crazy good, especially with the variety of stuff that seems to be going on.

Not really. I never though I'd see the day BF got more views than a CoD reveal- and with a five day headstart too. Now I actually think BF could sell more than CoD this time.

Why are you basing your doubts on a 3 year old release of a single game? The two games they released since were fine. No reason BF1 would be any different.
Oh I'm not downplaying how impressive the view count is, I just don't think people should be quick to jump to conclusions based on that alone. Not saying anybody here necessarily is but I understand that it would be easy to do so.

And don't get me wrong, it's clear DICE has learned from their mistakes with BF4. Battlefront (I believe) launched without any major problems, but it's always something I will be wary of...

That's not weird. Main line Battlefield reveals are an event because it's not an annualized series.

Why? I have wanted them to go in this direction for years. Instead of 20 different preorder bonuses just let people that preorder get the game 3 or 5 days early. Boom. Incentive to preorder without giving items to them that other buyers dont get.

Ummm did you even read what it is? It has nothing to do with preordering. It's an 80 dollar version of the game, that lets you play early and has a ton of in game stuff :
from amazon Battlefield 1 Early Enlister Deluxe Edition includes the Red Baron Pack and the Lawrence of Arabia Pack - containing themed weapons, vehicles and items. Plus five Battlepacks containing combinations of items. Also exchanges the visual appearance on three of the largest vehicles in the game. This Early Enlister edition allows you to play Battlefield 1 three days earlier starting from October 18.

So I only want to pay 60 dollars and now theres a bunch of exclusive items I can never get? What if those weapons are good?

Oh yeah and for preordering you also get some in games items as well.

Sorry for off topic, but sounds cool. What's your degree and where are you employed?

To go on topic, do you have any forecast for BF1 based on previous lookalike situations?

It could be really interesting to make a forecast now and see the results when it launches.

PM sent also it's with Machinima

It's not that from it, though; Battlefields have been coming out at like an average of about 18 months since Bad Company 2; the largest gap was between 3 and 4 and that was only two years.

The second the video starts the two guys look at each other and keep talking and laughing while the big reveal video is playing?
Disliked and closed the video right there. Fucking fake ass reaction videos...

???

Have you ever watched something with someone else? I think talking during something is annoying and obnoxious, but why would you feel it's fake?

I've watched the trailer several times now and as somebody who loves the Battlefield games, I have no idea what's going on with all those pointless quick cuts, I feel a simple thirty seconds of gameplay would have done far more for me.

It really did nothing for me and if anything, it's put me off. There's plenty of time to go though.

My work has a lot to do with social media and the impact it has on the people, the numbers that BF1 and attention is getting across all the Internet it's pretty huge

I think people are ready for something new. Battlefield is that for a lot of people. Call of Duty is looking to be on the edge of a downward slope. The Black Ops bump is gone since we won't be getting a new one for a couple of years. Perfect time for Battlefield to strike.

I haven't been following sales for years. Anyone know hoe CoD and BF have been doing? I will be watching this years numbers.

Indeed.
why would you feel it's fake?
Not the video, the supposed 'excitement' for the reveal. These people aren't fans or they wouldn't immediately turn their heads and look at each other giggling about something else (in this case who said what before) after literally the first second of a brand new reveal showing a new era with stunning graphics.

It is also fake when someone can't shut up for five seconds as they feel they need to keep talking even when alone. Have you seen those obnoxious play through videos when someone is literally describing everything their character is doing onscreen EVEN the sound effects?!

But I digress.

I can't wait to hear about how historically accurate/inaccurate this game is by Wikipedia Warriors who started furiously learning everything they can about WW1 yesterday.

Battlefield isn't suffering from series fatigue like CoD is for most people. It was primarily a PC franchise and the mainline games didn't even have campaigns. CoD was a phenomenon on consoles with no competition, had substantial modes and enjoyed a comparatively larger audience. Bad Company 2 was the start of their ascent to CoD level, but it wasn't coming out yearly and didn't have as large an audience as CoD. Of course, CoD's strategy has come to hurt it.

DICE has been gaining firmer fitting with their console releases, while CoD has been declining. The timing is right for Battlefield and I wouldn't be surprised if it overtakes CoD this year. I'm expecting it to be neck and neck at the very least.

I doubt that anyone calls the first Battlefield "Battlefield 1". The series is:

Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2142
Battlefield 3
Battlefield 4

and now Battlefield 1.

The series never had a consistent naming pattern, and the Battlefield 1 = WWI connotation isn't any better or worse than any of the other titles. Personally, I think that only decent titles so far are 1942 and 2142.

Have to disagree. Calling this '1' is worse than, say '1914' because 2, 3, and 4 exist. Every numbered release took place during modern day as well, and this one doesn't. Semantics.

Bobby Kotick at Activision isn't stupid, he knows MW is needed to keep numbers and interest high, there is also the possibility they have two user bases to cater to, modern and future fans. I think Activision are leaving their options open. It'll probably work but it's like their ace card. Then what. Interesting to see what happens, will it march on like FIFA as standard choice or will players find something else.

I feel bad for CoD. It's a generic trailer yes, but it doesn't deserve so much hate. I think people are as eager to jump on the hate train as they are jumping on the hype train.

Yeah I feel like those dislikes must be a concerted effort or something. The infantry game looks same old but I'm psyched for the space combat.

Can people just chill with the name thing? It's the same with the Xbox One - you'll forget it's weird.

Definitely. In fact, I don't even think it's weird. It actually makes a lot of sense. If you look around, the only place where there's intense hostility to the name is GAF haha

People are celebrating the dislike like it's kind of a public holiday. No developer deserves this, especially when they haven't shown gameplay yet for crying out loud. I couldn't care less about CoD, I watched half the trailer and decided it's not for me and I walked away. That's it. Why people have to shout out what they don't like, or even don't care? This is one of those moments that my dream of becoming a developer dwindles.

Battlefront (I believe) launched without any major problems,

And Hardline. BF4 released in 2013. Three years and two games later, I see no problems. And OF COURSE not repeating that mistake is going to be a priority for EA. I am not concerned at all. I don't see why people keep bringing BF4's fucked up launch as if it was the last thing EA did.

I really believe the next COD we will get is a WW1 game. I think Activision will even try to get a ww1 dlc for IW just in time.

Jackfrags - In-depth analysis and trailer breakdown

Goes into details of what he saw behind the scenes and some of the stuff we might not have picked up in the trailer. Also mentions we'll get at least 1 free map.
He mentions the vehicle bullshit specifically and mentions NeoGAF and a few other sites and says the reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

That's not what I read. There's a lot of contention about vehicle lock-downs broken up fairly evenly on both sides.

But since he's a shill it's all rainbows and puppy dogs, I guess.

i read that thread and it seemed to me almost everyone liked the idea i even made a post saying the OP didn't see that coming since he called it a "deal breaker"

he did link a video to a guy that really knows his stuff and much better breakdown then any of the BF shills worth watching

Is all the early game DLC just cosmetic changes to existing guns? I just want to know if I need to buy the deluxe edition.

Oh there were a lot of people besides me that didn't like the idea and not just on GAF.

BF isn't that kind of game. All the crazy swaps with kits and vehicles is what made the best moments.

I'll need official word on how it all works but so far this will be the first BF game I have ever skipped if it stands as it is right now.

I feel bad for the developers, but not Activision.

Jack mentions no info was given on the heavy armour and flamethrower dudes, only speculating they could be "hero" characters.

I was really high on IW week ago, and I'm still interested, but man I know it's gonna be underwhelming on its premise. BF1's Campaign might not be that great either, but to me this is a really inspired choice, whereas CoD, fresh blood aside, feels like this is the only place the series could go.

Though I don't know why they make a big deal out of not going full Sci Fi; the antagonist in BOIII was a fucking AI construct.

Considering that you see a British soldier in the trailer with the shotgun, I really doubt that it'll be DLC exclusive. Reading through the DLC item descriptions they really just look like skins with regiment insignia or quotes etched into the rifle butt and such, pretty much what DICE did with knifes in the past. If the weapons themselves were preorder DLC locked, there would be a pretty massive outcry I'm sure, especially with weapons so iconic as the first combat shotgun or the M1911.
