Pokémon Sun/Moon to contain multiple islands

Return of diving and waterfalls pls.

I didn't play the Ruby/Sapphire remakes so I'm pumped as all hell for a similar region.

oh God no! or at least make them non HM moves.

I've always been against HM's since gen 3(well actually a little of gen 2 as well a whirlpool/flash and rock smash were fucking jokes as HMs...thank goodness they turned into TMs and whirlpool is just gen II exclisive)

Well duh. Also, like a previous poster said, I wonder if they'll do one gym per island. Or maybe 2 gyms on one island so that another can house the E4 and Champion.

Also, I wonder if this region is apart of the same Pokecountry as Unova.

I wanna go through the Polynesian and go to the Easter Islands and have an elaborate quest involving NosePass.

Would be too perfect

Whirlpool, dive, surf, waterfall, and new HM Vortex(get through water spouts) will all be mandatory the entire game.

Oh god. Please no more than 4 water travel HMs.

You're right new islands behind amiibos. $12.99!

Game Freak doesn't like paid DLC. There won't be significant gameplay content locked around Amiibo. I'll be shocked if Nintendo can even convince them to use Amiibo for aesthetic unlocks.

Just make rough patches of water that can contain wild Pokemon, like tall grass, and make the rest of it free of them. Keep the heavy water theme but don't make water travel as obnoxious as in gen 3.

Cool idea but you know it won't be this way.

was the entire region was deluding themselves. Hawaii is much more than just O'ahu.

This isn't EA.

Lol from the look of it, it was plenty obvious it was just a city :p
Anyway, I'm excited for the game and they're finally bringing the full 3D scale I've been waiting for.

Only time I've enjoyed using Dive was in Unova where you got to explore the ancient underwater city, otherwise its meh.

I don't think the surfing will be too big of an issue. I mean with ORAS they did give us the ability to fly all over the region with Latios/Latias. I doubt they'd just leave that feature when it seems like a great addition to make in Sun/Moon

Hawaii has 8 main islands.

Pokémon games usually have 8 gyms.

Hmmmm...

If they do one gym per island and you progress in a linear fashion then the Pokemon overworld would be further streamlined, almost to the point it becomes a level select screen.

I... I'm ok with that!

How is Soar going to return if that was an exclusive feature™ of the Hoenn region thanks to the appearance of Mega Latios and Mega Latias?

The Big Island has similar shape and geography as Sinnoh. Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea correspond to Mount Coronet. It'll be a bit nostalgic if the layout is similar in Sun/Moon.

The era of soaring is here, random flight encounters.

I am firmly of the belief that soaring was created for this game then put in ORAS. It won't have random encounters though, that's just silly.

Yeah it was super obvious there would be a bunch of islands. Also think there will be a ton of boats you can take early game until you get soaring and surfing later in the game.

Yup, just like character customization was an exclusive feature™ of the Kalos region? They'll have some in game justification for it.

Either you use a new move where it gives you a generic black thing to fly on and you soar over the region, they could make a new soaring legendary, or they could bring back another flying legendary.

Devil's Advocate: Trade the Lati+Mega Stone to Sun/Moon from ORAS.

Personally, I don't think it'll make a return, especially if each island is loaded separately instead of open world as it will likely be the case with 3DS limitations (inb4N3DSexclusivefeatures).

As someone that loves the water in Gen 3. This game won't be like that, I doubt they are going to give you surf off the bat.
It might be boats to get to other places.

New York is much more than Manhattan.

France is much more than Northern France.

Japan is much more than Kanto.

You get my point here.

I have a sneaking suspicion if water and islands are a big part of this game, they may handle how you travel between them differently than normal, rather than just surf and water pokemon becoming one of the most important things of them all.

Glad to see there's a sizable amount of people that hates water routes as much as I do. :p
Until they find a way to actually make those fun to traverse, more varied in looks and with better map design, I'd rather not have a lot of them here.
I hope this game reignites my interest in Pokemon after the letdown that was gen 6.

You're right. This is the pokemon company.

New islands cost 100 jewels to start, and increasing with area. You can get 15 a day for free, or pay £60 to get enough to unlock everything.

Nope, this is Game Freak. There will be no paid DLC. One of the good things about Game Freak as opposed to TPC and others is that they have so far done none of those shitty anti consumer business practices with their own games even when TPC and others have implemented them in spin offs.

Irrelevant. That island cannot hold eight gyms and a league. That trumps any other arguments. With the information we had it was irrational to assume that was the only island. Additionally Kanto was not based on Japan, only on Kantō which is analogous to Unova being based on New York rather than the USA so that detracts from your argument.

Well, here's your Orange Isles style Pokemon RPG for those who wanted it.

... I'll be honest, as annoying as R/S's open ocean was with encounters, I did like how there were so many nooks and crannies to explore. Hope it's done in a similar manner and not just a bunch of straight water routers like in R/B/Y and G/S.

Don't forget those 3 trees that are blocking 3 crucial routes!

Just do away with HMs already please. I don't want anymore hm slaves or wasted hm moves. Or at the very least make all HMs as good as surf or better. Or make it easy to delete HMs on the fly and have it function like tms.

I'm hoping for more stuff like the Sea Mauville story, I didn't think I'd be so disgusted by human and animal rights violations in a Pokemon game of all things.

I like the island structure and the first island looks great overall. It's definitely linear but I really like that it has side areas and paths that you go around and caves that you'll likely go back to and it seems Gamefreak has put that camera to nicer use from ORAS so it conveys landscapes better. Hopefully this also means that the island structure allows them more control over narrative pacing like having one island tell its own story in addition to an overarching story as well as its own side quests and areas. Very promising stuff we've got here.

I don't consider myself a "casual" and I have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

Lets look at their mainline game history with microtransaction and butcher them with that.

HMs will probably stay the same. If Gamefreak still hasn't done anything about it even after gen 5 improved TM usage then they're probably not going to touch it ever. They probably see it as too much of a tradition to completely overhaul, unfortunately.
I wish they at least made more meaningul use of them if they really want to keep them in that much. I can't remember a single good environmental puzzle involving HMs in a Pokemon game in a long while.
