It's weird that I'm getting a suikoden vibe from this
Come to think of it, they are kind of similar, huh? They came out sort of close too, right? 3 or 4 years?

If I lose a recruited character to LP Death, do I still have the skills he sparked with the move tutors? Or does he have to survive the generation?
So I was like, ok, I'll go tell Noel to sod off and get a gen shift there. Except, no, telling him to chill doesn't get a gen shift. So between Noel and the tower event I had fought enough battles for the university to be finished and I was able to take out Bokuohn and finally get it.
Damn. I got a guy with 1 LP (my tank) who is my only guy with decent spear skills.I have read that they have to survive for the generation so that the skills will be able to cross over.

Man are the touch controls bad. This game is almost unplayable for me right now. =(
Few questions:
1. I know the SaGa series are known for having deep (and maybe even obtuse) gameplay mechanics, how does this fare compared to the other SaGa games?
2. How would you guys rank this game compared to the other SaGa games? The only SaGa game I've finished in SaGa Frontier.

1. I would say that it's fairly straight forward once you get the hang of it. There's no combo system like in SF or managing monster meat/robot parts/etc. The obtuseness comes from how many different solutions an event will have, and how to achieve the best possible results (all results are not created equal).
2. I'd say it's one of the better games in the series - it's not as weird as Frontier or RS3, and it's one of the few games that feels, well, complete. Like, there's no sense of huge swaths of content that didn't make it into the game.
So what is up with thethat is supposed to be in Savannah?eggshell
Already have the potion I need, but wanted to complete the quest, already have the other two items as well.
Does anyone know how to remove a party member from your party?
I've been told that the boss of this dungeon is resistant to physical attacks, so I'd like to replace one party member with someone who can cast spells.
Help please!
It's there. It's needed for a certain quest, if that is your question. There's an area you can walk into on the east side.
You can't really remove a character from your party unless they die. And for spells, if you have opened up the magic research area, you can teach spells to anyone and then increase their magic skill and MP by using the skills in battle.
If you aren't that far in yet then, well...
Actually, I think I know what boss you are talking about. You actually don't need magic to kill it. I noticed that my higher level attack skills worked on it. As long as you can keep the damage up higher than its regen rate, and keep your party alive for that long. So you should give it a try.

Thank you. That's a huge weight off my mind.
I shelled out for the magic research area so hopefully that pops up in my town soon. Looking forward to tackling that boss!
Is it the hunter guy you can recruit after bringing the Savannah area under control? I had already talked to everyone in both villages multiple times and nothing. You have to talk to a guy in the hut in the southern village and your emperor will ask him where to find it. That'll start the event.

I wonder if you have to get the dialog before killing the termite queen or something? Either that or a bug I guess.
It's not necessary to get it before the termite queen. I did it after (I think).
Did you talk to the witch yet and request the potion? That's the only other thing I can think of.
Yeah I did talk to the witch about the potion during this current generation. I already had one of the components and was able to get the water ingredient as well.
I wonder if my killing the queen 3 generations ago had anything to do with it? Anyway, I think the main quest that the potion quest ties into got delayed big time after I refused to work with the armed merchants 4 generations ago.
It's possible. I accidentally skipped the first volcano quest. I started it, and then went and completed some other quests, came back and it was already in the second phase. Some quests definitely have a generation timer.
EDIT: I also read that thecancels your particular quest out. I haven't gotten that one yet, but I was checking a guide for something else and noticed that.haunted ship quest
I kind of regret buying this. Only a little over 2 hours, but it feels like a very basic JRPG, with dry writing and barely any story. Gameplay isn't anything special either, just weird. My initial impression is that it isn't in the same league as FF and DQ.
I dunno, hopefully it gets better.
It's a game that came out originally in 1992. At that time, the complexity/depth of story and gameplay systems was on par, if not a bit higher (imo) than Final Fantasy.
You will probably discover this if you put more hours into it. SaGa games aren't for everyone, but I definitely wouldn't call RS2 a generic jrpg.
It's not as focused on a single narrative as Final Fantasy is, and the dialogue and cutscenes are very short and to the point, but there are a lot of contextual stories that you come across through the world. The game is more like an open-world jrpg (keeping in mind technical limitations at the time) and has a lot of different branches for all the events in the story based on your event choices, your main character, generation, etc. The game doesn't really guide you much, you have to kind of figure things out on your own, or read a guide, lol.
It's true that SaGa isn't for everyone. it has a lot mechanics that can click with the user or not. I'm guessing SaGa Frontier is probably the most accessible SaGa game until now with Romancing SaGa 2 right alongside it (based on the comments). If SaGa Frontier doesn't click with you, then might as well forget the other SaGa games.

That or SaGa 3, since that one has standard leveling and gear.I think the most accessible SaGa game is probably SaGa 2/FF Legend 2. But it's a lot simpler than the kinds of things they tried in the Romancing and SaGa Frontier series. SaGa Frontier is still a really buggy and unfinished game.
