Oh shit.

Didn't realize this was coming out this soon.

Hopefully this works with ReVive.

It looks great, but is there any hope for a "normal" version of the game, without Oculus?
No chance. It's published by Oculus and I doubt Insomniac would want anyone to experience this outside of VR as the extra dimension helps give the game its punch.

Damn I need this

Which means I need an Oculus, Or a Vive.

Which means I need a new computer.

Which needs I have to start sucking dicks behind Olive Garden. THanks a lot Insomniac Games.

You'd have to literally pirate the game to get it on the vive. It'll run just fine on the vive hardware, mind you. But Oculus DRM prevents you from using the headset.

Pirate? You still have to buy the game on Occulus home to run it on Vive. They still get every cent.

As far as I know, revive was patched to fix the new DRM check.

What's the price for the game? It's risky to buy it knowing Oculus might break again Revive with the next update.

Huh, it's THIRD person VR?

So like, can you step around your character and such?
It's a trailing camera ala God of War (or Luckey's Tale) that you can orientate 360degrees, completely immerses your field of view, lean in and out etc. And binaural 3D audio. I'm suspecting Insomniac is going to do some exciting directing with VR camera placement/involvement.

Thus making Revive a piracy patch. It's a no-cd crack. If you want to play this game, you need to destroy the DRM.

I wish Insomniac made a full blown non-VR only third person adventure game based on this setting, would have been amazing.

If I had an Oculus Rift this would easily be my biggest game. Unfortunately for me I'm not interested in owning more than one VR platform just for one game.

I'll buy it if it works with revive
Ditto. That trailer looks ace.

Haven't played a single third-person VR game. I felt a slight nausea when sitting down and playing Project Cars, but it quickly passed... how have other people handled stuff like Lucky's Tale and other third-person VR games? I'm so used to room-scale teleporting and moving about that I feel I might hurl if I try an Oculus Rift game.

ReVive means bypassing Oculus DRM, which means piracy. But let's not derail the thread. I would like to read some novels or books from Lovecraft, any recommandations ?

I'm not prone to motion sickness (in fact I have rock solid legs), but if the camera works just like in Lucky's Tale, you shouldn't have any problem. Plus I watched an interview of Insomniac in which they explain that they have been very careful with the camera work.

Looks like my kind of game, a PSVR version at some point would be nice.

Luckey's Tale is my favorite VR title so far and I feel no sickness. I think The Lab and general Vive stuff are wonderful unsurpassed tech showcases but I will play Luckey (and Chronos) for hours. I haven't tried Project Cars but I hear it has performance issues/drops (even on powerful machines) and it's a very fast moving object. A lot of performance drops are often not visible to end-users but your orientation system sure picks up on it.
Also: Talking about sickness can actually induce it as a placebo effect. If you tell people that a 2D monitor game is known to cause sickness (true or not) the knowledge might actually start to instill it. So: People should generally for public VR demos and such not talk about sickness unless it's an intensive game (ala Project Cars).

I would highly recommend these two collections. I've re-read many of the stories multiple times! Just remember that he loves using obscure words that tickle the imagination.

That's good to hear. I've been holding off buying anything from the Oculus store because of... well the DRM thing that seems to be changing all the time.

.

If you dont buy the usual Cthulhu mithos compilation "The Shadow over Innsmouth" its the classic Lovecraft story.

Thanks for the recommandations, I'm going to grab "The Call of Ctulhu and other weird stories" as it seems to be a good entry point.

Awesome. The setting and atmosphere look amazing.

I'm afraid it will be really, really short, though - like so many of these early VR games.

I think I'd be fine with 5-6 hours as long as it's really solid. Sounds like it will be priced as such. Also, the horror seems to be more intense than I originally though so maybe shorter isn't a bad thing, lol

Edit: I think if it's anything around 30 euros and below I will take the risk and buy it.
Edge of Nowhere seems to me to be among a handful of games in 2016 (the #1 in my opinion) to help validate a $600 Oculus purchase (unless horror adventures really aren't your thing).

Judging by the theme of this particular game, I'd say the most appropriate Lovecraft story to read for inspiration would be At the Mountains of Madness, which is also my favorite Lovecraft story. It takes place in the Antarctica and is one of his longer stories.

It looks great. Oculus knows what it's doing with those exclusives. I'm torn between Oculus and Vive. Without exclusives I would surely get Vive. Now I have to wait and see how much Facebook is willing to invest in their own games..

Really looking forward to this. Hopefully it's not TOO scary. I don't do horror games well, especially VR horror.

From what I remember of the demo, it induces a really spectacular sense of vertigo that is amazing especially considering it's in 3rd person. That, and looking over your shoulder to see the silhouette of some Lovecraftian beast behind you is pretty chilling. Loved what I played of it.

Just be aware that Lovecraft had some pretty shitty racial views for most of his life and makes them well known in a few stories. Also there is a certain cat that will most likely stand out as well lol

He wrote his stories at the beginning of the 20th century. His racial views were the norm back then, so it's a good idea to view things through the lens of history. You're going to find the exact same thing in well-loved literary series like Sherlock Holmes, but it can't really be used to criticize the author, who lived in a society where nobody really knew better.

looks fucking awesome! At the Mountains of Madness by Insomniac? I hope it really blows up on Oculus. A few more games like this and I'm gonna need to ride that VR train.

I love that Insomniac gets to make such a variety of games in terms of scale, genre, and system.
