Games with gold. Really, they don't have to do anything, people will still pay but it would be an amazing mic drop for the Xbox console and throw a spanner in the PlayStation works. That would get users to jump to Xbox. Subscription is easy money but the bigger picture is the ecosystem, what do Microsoft value more long term? They are desperate for Windows 10 and store to be successful.
Phil has said before he wants to do GWG on PC too though. When that happens, what's the difference other than one's paying and one's not? There's none, which is completely unfair. Not that paying for MP was ever fair in the first place, but yeah.

We all know PC GWG is coming once the store takes off, there's really no point trying to pretend it won't, they have to do something extra or drop the paywall IMO or people are gonna be pissed.

I think dropping multiplayer and having just GWG and DWG (and maybe throw in 1 AAA title of their choosing from MS IP) would do well. MS is definitely trying to get the Windows 10 store successful on the gaming side, that's one way to do it.
Only problem with that, and we've discussed it before is people will just pick Halo/Gears and they will lose out on a lot of money. I guess a potential way of doing it would be any unreleased new IP, or choose between any game (or two?) 6months+ old.

That why they will announce free multiplayer this E3 along with new Gold sub now work on PC and Xbox, one sub multiple devices, it make too much sense.

If they want to push the idea of blurring the lines between PC and Xbox One then bringing GWG to PC and making Xbox Live MP free on Xbox is a big step that needs to be taken.

I think you'd have a lot of people maintain Gold for the free games.

With Neo now confirmed and not being at E3, I think that means there's a very good chance of no Scorpio stuff mentioned at E3 at all.

They've already planned and rehearsed their entire show, their plans won't change 3 days before it's showtime.

If they bolstered the quality, and added other perks, I certainly would. But Xbox Live is an enormous revenue stream for MS. I genuinely don't believe MS would have continued to invest in Xbox without it.

I agree with both of you. I still don't think they'd do it though, it's a lot of money. They do have to do something though. I'd love for them to make MP free, even though I would keep my subscription anyways for the free games, it's the principle.

Thing about making it free is they will never be able to go back to a paid service, so while it may seem smart in the short term, long term it could be damaging.

I don't agree at all.

Scorpio's announcement would stand even taller without the Neo announcement then with. Imagine the amount of limelight it would have being the only upgraded hardware announcement at E3.

The Neo not being at E3 should push Microsoft even harder to have Scorpio there.

Microsoft have already shown they are willing to take risks, even losing out on big revenue streams, in order to push marketshare and monetize in other ways.

Just look what they did with Visual Studio and Xamarin, that's almost on the level if not beyond making MP free.

I agree N&B is incredibly unique and creative. I don't know if it would have been better without a known IP attached though, most people would have probably dismissed it as "a weird vehicle building game" or just ignored it altogether. Which is a shame.
"Maybe" it could have pulled a Minecraft and make a name for itself, but I doubt it, seeing how a game like Project Spark failed to find an audience (granted, the need for creativity was even higher in that one).
I think both would be fated to do badly, no matter what.

Banjo was amazing, but lacked a fun sandbox to justify the vehicles, it was mostly pre defined challenges. Now if they paired their vehicle creation to Minecraft it could do wonders.

For Project Spark it was even worse because the product was just lacking. It was a very powerful tool, but terribly confusing to use. Minecraft nailed the simplicity of controls and ui, PS required tons of experience just to do basic stuff. Not to mention you could easily bring performance to a crawl on a xbone, for a game that was once meant to release on 360 (and perhaps mobile) they couldn't have such a bad performance.

I was thinking....

If they have an update to effectively have the Xbox platform work on any Win10 PC, they could, in theory have their 360 BC work as it does on the Xbox One.

That would be a megaton imo. Phil saying, "With the anniversary update, your Win10 PC will now act as an Xbox One console when launching the Xbox One from the Xbox App. That means you can play your Digitally owned games, from the Xbox Store, on your Windows 10 PC and any Digitally owned Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games too." *waits for applause*

I think that would entice people to buy Digital via digital and to use the Xbox App a lot more. Especially for chat/party.

Come on MS! Show me the GOOOOOODS LOL

Something to note is that GWG has been really good these past couple of months, admittedly some kind of poor months, but for the most part it's really damn good. Could be them building up the program for it going free.

Ybarra and the xbox wire post was hyping up the GWG anniversary this June, but this June just seems like a normal month rather than celebrating anything (last year XB1 GWG's up to 2, year before 360 got an additional GWG& xb1 gwg started). I posted this before ever since they announced this months GWG, something is coming at E3 regarding the program I think. Could be related to MP going free like GWG offers AAA's every month now or something.

One of the worst things to come from this gen is Sony charging for multiplayer, if they didn't xbox would have dropped the paywall a long time ago I'm sure.

Saying all that, still not on board that they're actually gonna do it, but at the same time, I wouldn't be particularly surprised if they did.

Still don't believe it will happen. If they drop Xbox Live Gold, I'd consider it the biggest megaton I've ever beheld. FF7R/Last Guardian/Shenmue 3 and X1-BackwardsCompat would be utterly dwarfed by it; they would have nothing on it. Dreams 2/3/4.0 would be every year. I would buy an Xbone for my best mate immediately.

That's simply too good to ever occur.

They bought Xamarin(a tool that costs a $1000 per license) and made it free with Visual Studio... then they made Visual Studio free on PC, Mac and Linux.

So many Banjo-Kazooie avatars in here, I love it!

Forza Horizon 3 is my most anticipated game for Xbox. Forza Horizon 1 and 2 are on a different level for me. I usually really like racing games but they're not my favorite, but those two were something else. More of that would be incredible!

Xbox can do crazier things than playstation. Microsoft is Xbox's rich dad. They will blow a lot of money for their kid.

With Neo now confirmed and not being at E3, I think that means there's a very good chance of no Scorpio stuff mentioned at E3 at all.

This was my first thought as well.

My second thought is that if Scorpio is indeed more powerful than Neo and MS do announce it and later this year Sony announces Neo with less powerful hardware it "might" make non PSVR excited hardware junkies see no reason to jump into Neo.

My brain is telling me this is an out of MS to announce their slim and whatever streaming boxes may or may not exist and move on with life.

My heart wants me to see them at least announce some kind of road map because I am a hardware junkie and new hardware from both Microsoft and Sony has me excited.

Should I be getting hyped for a new Age of Empires?

Heard a few little whispers that its in the works last week but nothing since

Would love this to be true!

Somebody answer this man! We've got like 3 insiders just sorta hanging out around here, surely somebody's heard something!

Any predictions on what the "Backward compatibility"-esque announcement will be this year? I've heard some speculation that, due to Xbox leaning into PC, it could be Online Play becoming free or separate from Xbox Live?

While I'm yet to believe that could happen, it would certainly turn some heads.

Porting the 360 Emulator to PC would be a great way to build some hype.

That doesnt mean anything...

Well ya, but it was just a thought I had. As soon as Sony said they wouldn't have Neo there, it made me think that MS probably won't have theirs either. Both are probably saving for their own independent shows without others to compete with for the spotlight.

Our company is paying over $5500 for each Visual Studio Enterprise license, which includes Xamarin and it's tool chain. That is as of two weeks ago. To be honest, I don't know why the other VS licenses don't include Xamarin in the spreadsheet they sent out, because, as you say, I thought I recall them saying it was free for everyone.

From what I heard Xamarin is going to be monetized through the cloud services such as cloud device testing.

Didn't we already have some informative sauces in the Scorpio thread basically imply they would mention it at their conference?

Yes, Ekim is pretty adamant that it will talked about at E3.

Same with Arthur Gies and even Tom Warren it seems now after originally saying no.

Yeah so the Xbox Instagram account posted a picture of RECORE box art on top of the Xbox one with the number 3 which means days. The box art is only temporary. Xbox is hyping up recore a bit. They did this on their Twitter account on day 7. Have they done other games?

Dunno about any other games but I think Recore might be their show closer. Everyone expects a small 2.5d game or something which thanks to Shinobi, we already know it's not. The other stuff Shinobi has leaked about it sounds really good aswell, IMO it has potential to be one of the best games this year based on leaks.

If it lives up to it's potential & ms knows it's amazing, it'd be a really good way to end the show I think. Nobody expects it to be the type of game it is, or even knows anything about it really, and if it's amazing that's just the cherry on top.

Not sure what else they could end it on, can't be Gears again, maybe Scalebound? but we already know about that and roughly what to expect, it's more of a mid-show game to me.

With Fable on hiatus for the foreseeable future, they need an action adventure game. Hoping this it.

-Kotaku leak missing one codename outside of Scorpio (or not, they disclosed Edmonton is the name of the Xbox Slim)
-Scorpio not likely to show at E3, would be surprising if they did
-Xbox slim definitely real, not 4K gaming, 4K video playback "could be white", 40-50% smaller, new standard controller coming with it
-Speculation that TV DVR has been put on hold because of the HDMI-IN feature being removed for Xbox slim
-Xbox app supporting win32 games is an attempt to connect PC and console players
-Xbox live experience effectively coming to PC, with Windows Store leveraging it
-Windows Store is hot garbage right now, but they have to start somewhere
-Think if Xbox made all console games UWP apps. "Steam and Sony will have a tough time"
-This E3 will show Microsoft being more aggressive
-Unaware if Xbox streaming devices will be announced at E3 but they are real, might break off into its own brand like what happened with Microsoft Band
