Mass Effect 4 Main Character called Ryder, FemRy confirmed default. Spring 2017

Why are people calling her Female Ryder and FemRy. She's the the official default version. You'll rarely see people calling male shepard. Maleshep or other such names. Just call her Ryder and find some other nickname for the male version.

Hmm? People make distinction between ManShep/Sheploo and FemShep all the time.

Hopefully Man-Ryder has a decent default look like Shepard. Customizing Shepherd always made him look weird and doughy.

Default female Ryder looks good, and since I do the male option, that increases my chance to not get spoiled on romances, so that's good.

Uhhh, we do call male Shep MaleShep. It doesn't matter if he was canon. Canon characters in Bioware games never mattered other than marketing.

I don't know, I've played with male Shepard and thought it was cool. Either way I don't mind female or male, but if it's intended to play as a fem here, fem will be then.

It's a great ride either way. To me, Hale turns in an undeniably superior reading of the same lines though. Her dialog was more varied in delivery and really shines especially in the Renegade options where her voice goes icy and intense in a really cool way.

That comes down to opinion, but it seems like a lot of people share the opinion that Hale did a better job. *shrugs*

You'll rarely if ever heard someone use the manshep distinction because that's the one the majority of people played as and is the default. Femshep is normally used when your not referring to male shepard or in a manner that isn't important to both. The fact that even when the female version is the default most people are still adding the fem in front is pretty odd to me.

Look at google as an extremely rudimentary exxample Femshep 478,000 results, manshep, 20,000, maleshep 68,000. It was not a common nickname.

It's an honor to serve aboard your ship, the Southern Sun.

I expect the female version of the character will still be known as FemRyder instead of just Ryder, just because that's what fans are already used to from the Shepard trilogy.

People make much too much out of what's "canon" in Mass Effect games. No version of Shepard was canon, and even if there was, it doesn't make any difference to your customized experience.

This is cool though for the marketing (I always thought FemShep was cooler anyway and it was neat to see her all over the marketing materials for ME3), and because we're less likely to get the same crappy male animations again if the female PC is the focus.

Ghost Riders in the Sky, very cute, Bioware. I wonder if the 'multiple Ryders' means it'll be a Hawke family situation?

Very cool to see EA advertising with FemRyder. The belated realisation you could play as FemShep was what got me into ME (and DA after that), so hopefully the same thing ends up happening to others. That being said, I did end up playing MaleShep more, as he had the better romances. No, I'm not still bitter about the unfulfilled UST between FemShep and Miranda. Not. Bitter. At. All.

Ryder is a worse name compared to Shepard.

I'll go with Male Ryder since I'm used to Male Shepard.

Curious to see if they'll meet Spring 2017.

The default male Ryder has a scanned face, yes.

Supposedly they want a Fallout 4-style unveiling, so I'm expecting full blowout for N7 day in November, which will be 5 months from release.
Yup.

My opinion is that male Shepard was cool but I can't comment on fem since I really don't know how she was, I saw the art in ME3 back then but I already had my maleShep save from ME2 so it was an obvious choice. Regarless, I wouldn't change the brotherly relationship I had with Garrus though, it was perfect!

But I always play with default character on these games so, FemRyder will be.

What's the difference between being default and not besides marketing?

Nothing, just like last gen. In fact, they marketed both genders for Mass Effect 3.

This basically.

ME is a game about creating your own character and playing as them. so this doesn't really mean anything outside of marketing tbh.

It'll piss off a bunch of people who are afraid of women, gamergaters. That alone is worth it.

And it helps break the idea that white male is the default human.

would be cool to have seen some that wasn't white. This year is gonna give us a few black protagonists but there is no reason ME portage couldn't have been Continental or East Asian for example, or someone from a Latin territory etc.

I'm 100% OK with a female lead of course, but I sure hope they have plenty of options for "real" armor and suits, and not the boob and butt contoured stuff Bioware seems to love.

Should have been a female Muslim for some truly glorious epic internet melt downs.

...religion isn't race?

(Also, does ME have any reference to modern religions? I can't remember any. So it might not even make any sense at all)

IIRC, they went out of their way to mock that style of armor in Inquisition.

They're probably trying to say Arab.

Since FemShep was the superior, non default option, I'll be going with Guyder this time around.
