Resident Evil 7 Biohazard announced (PC/XB1/PS4), Jan 2017, PS4 demo out now

Personally, I love this demo... I really hope Resident Evil 7 is along similar lines.

Does most of GAF still hate this?

When people in the NA were still waiting for the demo, others who have already played the demo said they were disappointed in the ~13 minute experience. But now we're sort of figuring out that there's perhaps more to it.

That was a great little demo, love the first person perspective and the idea of playing that in VR is horrifying. Finding the axe sealed the deal, obviously a RE game would have combat.

This made me want another Outbreak. If this is just a bunch of vignettes of BoW attacks from he perspective of the common citizens, that would be a great approach.

Just tried the demo myself. I'm very interested, which is something I haven't been able to say since 3. It's quite different, but I would like to see where it goes in the final version.

I want a horror resident evil. Not the action that started with 4.

I realized I love this because I'm still hoping there's a AAA title in the PT vein to fill in the void. Though it may not be totally RE, this still feels like it's going to be something else. Sure hope the backlash they're apparently receiving doesn't impact the final release.

Something worth noting is that at least as now nothing has unlocked the full sequence from The Kitchen demo. I remember watching a video where they described the full demo and this is how it went

After the part where the woman stabs the guy she gets in your characters face and screams and then stabs him in the thigh. The guy on the ground gets back up and starts fighting with her. Eventually his head rolls into the room. When you look down again the knife is now lying on the floor and when you look back up the woman pops up again and kills the character.

The original concept for RE1 was a 1st person game, so this would really be taking the series WAY back to it's roots, for better or worse.

Would be pretty bad if that's what we were working for.

I wonder what the reaction/interest would be if it was called Resident Evil Survivor 3 lol.

This would be, what, Gun Survivor 5 or 6?

Probably would throw a fit with that too since this faux teaser is nothing like those games either.

And then we'd be left with both no RE7 or REmake2, on top of no Outbreak revival or Dino Crisis title.

I liked what I saw. Never played 6 but I enjoyed the hell out of 4 and the co-op of 5. I've had awesome bonding times playing the co-op to RE5.

What an utterly boring game. Put in one video tape, watched that, went upstairs, walked around some more, did more of nothing, went to home screen and deleted the demo. Can't help but feel this game is in first person for the sake of VR. :/

Really sad to see the series go in this direction. Not sure what's happening over at Capcom. Did something major happen this gen to them financially?

Just thinking what the crowd would have been like if at the end the title pops up, "Resident Evil Gun Survivor 6: Biohazard"

You would literally hear a pin drop in the audience as everyone just stared in confusion at the screen.

But yeah, so I played through the demo and wasn't really feeling it. I mean, I am going in with a huge bias here. I was going into E3 hoping to see something about The Evil Within 2 and RE7. TEW2 was nowhere to be found and RE7 was nothing like what I expected.

So yeah, I am going to be straight up with everyone and say that I am hating on this game right now, lol. I guess that says more about me than the game itself, but that's where I'm at.

RE1 for PS1 is still one of my faves of all time, but so is RE4. I don't know, the turn to more action didn't really irk me like it did others. The only thing that really bothered me was the constant AI companion that you were stuck with in 5 and 6. If they would have gotten rid of that (made co-op optional) and focused on a well paced solo adventure, I would have been ecstatic.

I will say, though, the one thing that I miss most from what I have seen of RE7 is the colorful cast of characters that have been in every RE since the original. I guess we need to wait to see the final game, though. Supposedly this teaser isn't even showing us the character that we play as. But the whole vibe of the game seems off to me.

Obviously, I don't want to completely trash a game I haven't played yet. But I am basically just airing my frustrations as someone who was looking forward to seeing two third person survival horror games at this E3 and instead got nada.

Sorry for the childish rant.

Man, I just played through the the demo twice. I was scared shitless. I wound up getting the same end result but different ways of getting there. I'm definitely getting this now.

Yeah, that's how I've always felt about 5. It took everything RE4 did and amplified it
.
5 is similar to 4, as in some elements are very familiar, but has far worse execution imo with little of the atmosphere or gameplay variety that RE4 has.

I love this demo. Yes, it feels like PT but so what? RE had gotten stale as hell and this is a fresh start for it! Plus we still get classic RE with REmake2 in development.

It's a great time to be an RE fan. I hope Capcom doesn't let some negativity steer them away from taking this bold new step. It's very refreshing.

The demo is awesome and creepy as hell.

Just started this and could only play about a half hour before putting it down. I can't imagine how tense this would be in VR. Don't know if I could handle it.

I think the thing it needs is connection to other RE characters. Some way and somehow. In order to make it feel more like an RE game.

Yeah, I'm conflicted. I'm fine with a big change to shake things up, but I'm just not that into ACTUAL horror games. I'm definitely noping out of VR for this one if I pick it up.

So it's the demo available to download indefinitely or just this week?

who knows, but you'd better download it now before they PT it.

don't worry, i'll hold your hand while you play.

this game in VR would be sooooo scary.

why would the game be better in third person?

RE6 did well, but was badly recieved by the fanbase and critics.
they also got a hit after Mikami and team left/were fired.

Overall the series needed a good shake and im surprised Capcom is responding so fast, if that change is good or bad remains to be seen, Capcom can be very clumsy. at least lots of talk of returning to the roots and horror.

another thing to note is that Capcom has been strangely conservative when it comes to new releases, many next gen exclusives to reduce risk, i would not be surprised if something was happening behind the scenes regarding VR

It's not as creepy as PT but it definitely made me way more tense than PT ever did. I'm not sure why. Maybe because the house is way more grimy

I like it, but shit man

Those of you saying that this game is in no way creepy or that it lacks all of the tension PT had are out of your minds.

Yes, I totally agree that this demo doesn't touch PT. The novelty and cutting-edge creep factor of PT may be long gone and already inspired a couple of imitators along the way. But the demo for RE7 worked just fine.

Using the iphone headphones (which have very, very decent sound) and a big enough tv, I was just as sucked into the atmosphere as I was with PT. After deciding not to watch streams before downloading the demo, I went in blind and could definitely feel the tension. Jump scares were totally there, from the
baby figure dropping from the ceiling
to the
random mannequin getting in your way towards the exit door
. Hell even the character's own shadow scared the shit out of me as I approached the tv room.

tl;dr the demo is creepy enough, and playing it on VR must be fucking terrifying I can't wait to try it myself.

I hate first person games. I know people like it, so I understand why pubs would push for it, but when a established third person franchise's new mainline game is in first person, it makes a big portion of my goodwill go away.

I don't really dislike anything so far, except for the point of view change.

I hope they allow us to choose between third and first person and that the game is not just a "pls, do let's plays of this" type of game, otherwise I won't buy nor play a mainline Resident Evil for the first time in my life.

Anyone else feel they can predict statements from a future e3?

"We tried something different with re7 but ultimately after listening to fan feedback, we're going back to our roots in design, with re8 "

The real question is if anyone would believe in them if they said that once again haha

So do you think CAPCOM will add a third person mode as an option for all the first person/VR naysayers?

It's a possibility, but if I had to guess, no.

Capcom response today worry me. It shows that they are not confident in the change enough so that damage control has to be done.

I dont think the full game will be much different. We will get first person RE7 with similar atmosphere. Just maybe with different character and part.

Between this and RE6, I will choose this one in a heart beat. The game has a lot more potential to it and could be great if implement it properly. Not sure why Capcom is so scare of the reaction today. The backslash still happen even if the demo is great , because it is a turn in the series after all. This is not RE people expected and there will be lots of complain no matter what.

And for what it worth the demo is far from being bad. Its enjoyable and interesting enough. It is so freaking tiring seeing PT became the holy grail of teaser and any game that has similar style has to be compared to it. I mean the gameplay is not even the same for christ sake. Cant people enjoy anything without trying to compare shit for once. And im not even a fan of first person and I play PT to death.

Just finished the demo

why the hell is this related to Resident Evil?

first person view is one thing, but everything else was awful

it's not different from the countless and tired indie first person horror games on PC

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll take RE6 clone over this any time or better RE4/5

this has nothing with Resident Evil not in atmosphere, tone, point of view, setting.

this demo makes spin offs like DmC look very very very faithful to the originals.

I sincerely hope this is a big ass troll and they will announce the real deal tomorrow or something

wouldn't surprise me if DMC5 will have Shadow of Mordor combat next

Capcom is so over.

I don't think it's about a lack of confidence. I think they just want to be clear that the game will maintain RE-style mechanics, namely and most importantly combat mechanics. That's just being honest. I'd feel bad for people thinking that RE7 is a game like Outlast or whatever with a bunch of stealth and running around.

I'd feel bad if it was that type of game lol. They seem very aware that the fans from the beginning might not take to this change and want to reassure them, while at the same time letting fans of the other FPS horror game boom that it's not going to be exactly one of those either.

I've noticed though is all the info of this game has Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, and in the Japanese info it says Biohazard 7 Resident Evil. Most fans know the name difference between Japan and the global release but this is the first time were seeing them deliberately use both, especially in Japan. Wonder if they are going to merge the names moving forward or this is simple sub-billing.
