COMICS! |OT| June 2016. The Manhattan Project

Well, that's the last of the current absolutes I needed. So pretty!

I really like the Injustice comic. Is it right it's finishing at the end of year 5? I'll be sad to see it go. Mind you I have Bombshells to read as well. I've been subbing every week but not reading it.

And lol. I just found my original iPad Mini that I thought I didn't have any more. The screen isn't as good as my Air or Shield and it's a big slower but it's just the right size :)

Yeah, because it'll have caught up to the game

I hope they continue the Mortal Kombat one

Nick Spencer fighting a losing battle on his "It's not mind control" hill

I've read a bunch of his tweets about it, it does seem like he's splitting hairs a little.

The way that I saw it, Kobik changed his mind about Hydra, so while it's not active mind control, his mind at one point was altered by a being outside himself in a way that many would describe as mind control. Technically different I suppose, but hard to differentiate for people that didn't actually read the book anyway.

Okay.

Okay, hang on wait.

I think I'm about to take everything I said back.

If Marvel is going to personify the very real divide between the young generation and the old shrivs trying to burn it all to the ground before they die the fuck out, then I am 100000000% on board. If that really stands consistently throughout the entire line, THAT would be really incredible, and it would actually reflect contemporary culture in a typically def Marvel way.

I don't know why I didn't catch on to it before, but this could really be amazing. The Avengers cover on the latest Previews definitely tracks with this, with Nova, Kamala, and Miles burning their Avengers IDs.

Fuck. 4000 Kid Heroes Walk Into A Bank.

I wanna riff off this for a minute. The most interesting thing (to me at least) that Marvel has been doing with ANAD and looks to continue with Now! is actually establishing a legitimate second generation of heroes. Sure there's been Avengers Academy, Young Avengers, New Mutants, etc books in the past but due to the rolling timeline the old Marvel U had, you didn't really serious those characters get a chance to stick around and establish themselves.

In a universe where heroes as a whole have only been active for ~15 years (or whatever goofy math they used based off Franklin Richards age at the time), they core heroes were constantly in their prime and there was really no need or reason for a younger generation to exist. But if you look at the right side of the teaser image, those young, second generation characters stand on their own and are identifiable known commodities for the most part.

It's just a shame this is being ushered in with yet another round of hero v hero conflict. But I guess that says more about editorials lack of confidence in their roster of villains (outside of Doom) to carry a story than anything else.

Cape comics are better when both companies are pushing each other to be great.

If the past is something that only exists in memory and in the lasting effects it's had on the present, is there any discernible difference between actually changing the past and just changing people's perception of it?

I haven't been keeping up with the twitter war but...I kind of agree with Spencer.

There is a significant distinction between the effects of a cosmic cube and mind control. Cosmic cubes actually have the power to change reality. Cap is not being mind controlled in that there is nothing to sever to repair the damage; there's no link to Kobik that, once cut, will free him from what's happened. The damage has been done.

Conveniently, however, Marvel just introduced a new Inhuman with the power to fiddle with memories, so it's still kinda obvious what's going to happen here.

Apologies if I'm just repeating what he's saying, I don't want to wade into twitter at the moment.

False assumption; the past is not something that exists only in memory. Past events have quantifiable effects on the present (and the future). Entropy proceeds whether or not we remember it.

What are we talking about?

He's not really getting into specifics other than
"It's not mind control".

I think the bigger problem is his "read the comic" attitude, when the comic isn't explicit about it like he is being on Twitter. If his intention in the comic was to be crystal clear, and clarity is only achieved by visiting his Twitter page, he fucked up. That's his problem, not a reading comprehension problem on the part of the reader.

I get that some people are arguing semantics with him, but he's also arguing with people who have read the book and just aren't clear on exactly what happened, which is reasonable when talking about imaginary superhero bullshit with no basis in logic.

I read it, I'd say it's mind control, since
she altered reality and implanted false memories

Hmmmm.... I may have to buy it if I can find it cheap enough. Hardcovers aren't out yet, are they?

They're doing some handsome softcovers at the moment but the third/final book won't be done until next year February.

I'm not a big Invisibles guys either (one of those things that should be banished to the 90s imo) but Doom Patrol is great.

It's time to start chucking Preacher hardcovers and soft covers or giving them to your bum ass friends. Next week is Absolute vol 1.

It's time to re live the moments the show will never touch over again.

New TA Hulk teaser for Marvel Now. So far we have the ANAD kids quitting the Avengers and Amadeus seemingly quitting his military work. So I'm guessing it's going to be more regulated/government on one side vs a more free side. This is obviously all speculation though.

I really hope it's not that simple, because if it is check out how much of a re-tread of Civil War/Secret Invasion/Dark Reign that lineup is on the pro-gov't side. You have a villain taking up the role of a fallen hero...the same damn hero, in fact. You have an uncontrollable monster being used for enforcement (Clor/FFF). You have a band of vigilantes/villains working for the government (Thunderbolts/Mercs). You have someone everyone assumes is a good guy but is actually prepping for a major heel turn (Jess/Steve).

And you have Slapstick working for the government. Both times.

There hasn't really been any government involvement in CWII...which is a good thing, it was toxic in CW...so I hope this turns out to be wrong.

OK...just read DC Rebirth.

Wally's back and is going to try to restore everyone's pre-Flashpoint memories. That's great but...the Watchmen were the sinister force behind it all?

That was just me guessing so we'll see lol. I just want to see the titles and creative teams.

I love Spider-Man.

Love Bendis' running gag with a crazy in a police station shouting real world stuff, the latest referencing DC Rebirth
