So temps are rising and the sidewalks are heating up, and the time has come to select seasonally appropriate footwear. However, I am concerned about projecting the wrong image, and thus have avoided the open and flagrant display of my heels and/or toes in public. I am concerned that my perspective may be outmoded in this modern age, and turn to gaf for insight.

In the spectrum of footwear masculinity <----> femininity, where do sandals fall? On the masculine side (cowboy boots, dress shoes), feminine (stilettos, flats) or somewhere in the middle (crocs, Nintendo sneakers)? And is their placement on this spectrum reliant on their design (flip flops, slides, gladiator etc)? Please advise.

I live in Florida. Flip Flops are a normal thing to wear down here at all times of the year. You see them every day.

Where do you live? Where I live, once it's May, the sandals come out, men and women. I wouldn't say they're feminine at all, especially when you have gnarly man feet.

I rock with them unapologetically. Sandals and flip flops go south when you're a big dude though. They look better if you have a slimmer build imo. But I also don't worry about whether some downtown trendoid thinks my look is cool. Go get your undercut shaped up and wax your beard.

What the hell kind of weirdo thinks sandals (fucking sandals!) of all things are codified as being female-wear? Sandals are the most unisex thing I can think of.

Maybe it's a local thing? If I see a man with sandals I think "oh temperature must be >45 again".
