Tales of Berseria 5th trailer

The dugeons are going to be shit again in this, I will pass. I dont want play a 2016 game with levels which look like they are from the PS1 or PS2.

I have seen better levels in PS1 games, see Wild ARMs 2 for example. Xenogears as well.

Game Level design in general has taken a pretty big hit over time, so being inspired by the PS1 era might actually be a plus.

Anyone tried watching Zestiria the X? I think it's pretty nice. Velvet is in it too

It's pretty to say the least.

Is it an adaption of the game's story? I might watch that to build some context for Berseria if I decide to play it.

It's the games story with added material to better flesh out characters, lore, and to better bridge the game to Berseria. For example, Velvet is apparently going to be in it (she's in the OP credits animation) despite never being in Zestiria. Only one episode is out right now. It's going to be 24 episodes with half of them airing this summer and the other half airing in the winter.

The first episode was almost completely new material, and legit a good episode of anime. Not to mention insanely gorgeous.

I'll check it out then.

New director. Baba's reign is over.
Seriously, everything seems so much better now that they changed director

It really seems like taking a series vet and putting him in the director's chair has been a good decision so far.

Of course, we won't really know for another month, and I have my reservations about a few things (the writer being the same one from Xillia 2/Zestiria, the fact that the menus still lack item images like in Zestiria despite that having pretty much always been a thing previously), but it's shaping up to be pretty good, in my opinion. The plot trailer gives me a little bit of hope that it will hopefully at least raise the bar from the (imo) garbagefest that was Zestiria. The combat looks solid, they've taken away the things that clearly didn't work well, the maps aren't "corridor generator 2016 / needlessly large field generator 2016," plus things like minigames, cooking making its return, more dynamic-looking skits and a varied cast...

There's actually some hope here, and I can say the last Tales game I really enjoyed from start to finish despite it's major flaws was Graces. I'd really love to see the series get back to the stuff it used to do so much better... I'm hoping to actually feel invested in a modern Tales game again instead of having to go back and play the old favorites to scratch the itch.

Wasn't Baba always producer, not director? And they moved him to just brand manager or something now?

Anyways glad to see Baba's reign being over.

Pretty good trailer! They should've leaved it for launch trailer in a month, since this trailer is really spoilery... (I kinda regret watching it for content, but the visuals :))

Opinions on the trailer
Arthur/Arturius spilt is cool and how he's the one who represent reason is ok. It's really cliché for him to be the older brother

Inuhanyou

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
So the main 'bad guy' finally shows himself. Pretty bog standard a guy

Don't shout victory so soon. Game isn't out yet.

Baba never directed shit, not even ToD DC. He has always been on a management role. He seemed very hands-on witth creative though. I think Tales directors have been pretty competent always, unlike production and their NB management staff. Having Baba as a brand manager seems to be better for everyone.

Specially when what you get in replacement ist a authentic quality oriented man like Yasuhiro Fukaya wo has been on QA most of the time and helped deliver very solid, well rounded games around Namco: he was involved in Tales of Symphonia, did QA for Vesperia and Soul Calibur II.

I am really looking forward to getting him to produce a game with the team that made ToZ, wich was had everything to be a dream team but was put trhough development hell.

I would help as well if Namco wasn't an ass about Tales games deadlines.

So is the kid at the start a girl or a boy? Looks like a girl, but Laphicet also looks like a girl.

Both are boys... infact I would say (Zestiria/Berseria? spoilers)
both are the same being since dead people can be transformed into Malak/Seraphim. In fact I would say that the reason Atorious is not generating malevolence when he kills him it's because in his mind he is not doing that but instead transfrming the child into his Seraph servant and using his actual sacrifice to summon Maotelus and end the curse of the Scarlet Moon (and that could be teh reason he's considered the savior of the world)

Is it an adaption of the game's story? I might watch that to build some context for Berseria if I decide to play it.

It seems it covers events that relate to the game but we did not see. I'm unsure they will cover the game strictly. Plus, I don't think you'll need context to enjoy ToB, probably stands on it's own perfectly.

Just noticed that Velvet used to have a stuffed rabbit? in her room. She used to be such a sweet girl. Damn Arthur had to ruin everything

I never finished Zestiria. Only got after
Daziel sacrifice
. Should i go back and finish it? I really got bored with the game : (

really good trailer. The best one by far for Berseria.

And that opening song is just too good.

Loved the song, indeed.

I am taking about graphically...level design is well worse than the PS1 greats.

Tales unfortunately has always kind of been a cheap series on that front. Vesperia looked amazing, but it had some funding from Microsoft backing it up which why we have never seen an attempt to build upon its style afterward. On the bright side at least the game is built to run at 60 fps at all times on PS4/PC.

We still have zero information about the red hair woman who keeps helping Velvet?

According to what they announced at TalesFes, her name is Seres and she actually works under Artorius, though she's apparently been questioning his actions since what happened the night we see in the trailer.

The trailer is kind of spoilery, but it got me invested, so there's that. Tapping into the emotions, just like the game's theme. Hoping for good impressions for this one, I'd take a solid mid-80s open critic score on this one, not expecting a masterpiece, just want the series to pick up a bit.

About the spoiler:

I noticed she said something like "Arthur-oniisan" as well, but the fact that she said his name before oniisan seems to imply to me that she was using the term colloquially, meaning that he isn't really her brother, just an older man that she has a connection to and looks ups to or otherwise respects. Even though he looks a lot like her sister/brother (I don't think they actually established their gender), I don't think Velvet is relates to him. In fact, she may not even be related to her sister/brother either, since they don't really look very similar, and they could have just adopted each other as siblings.

Tales unfortunately has always kind of been a cheap series on that front. Vesperia looked amazing.

Vesperia gets a lot of credit for how good it looks and how much people like it's story and caracters and it is something I can get behind that. But the HD games that came after Vesperia honestly don't fall behind on visual detail, if anything it is the opposite wich is remarkable knowind that they added a much complex and less flashy camera system for enviroment navigation.

Other thing that bothers me about ToV is how people gloss over the fact that it is not only conservative on it's presentation but on it's battle system (a tratit of all Team Symphonia games, really) wich is like the forth spin on the Tales of Eternia system on 3D in a row, wich should be considered utterly boring on a post ToD DC world but here we are. I honestly value more ToX 2 and ToZ trying to revitalize the saga and failing thant ToV being the excellent one trick pony that it is.

On the matter of Velvet's sibilings... I think none of them are blood related. It looks more like a family made of orphans or something like that, with Arthur being the fatherly/big brother/guardian figure to both Velvet and TotallyNotLaphicet

Now that I took a look at Zestiria the X's first trailer again, isn't the guy from that trailer Artorius?
I mean, just look at him

I don't know but it's not time machine. Also I agree about the trailer. Really good trailer this time. Music really goes well too. Love the part where they jump off the ship

I feel Tales series needs new art director. Personally I'm utterly bored with how the games looked since Graces. How about going back to cel-shaded graphics like that of Vesperia?

Pancake Mix

Copied someone else's pancake recipe
Yet the the demo, she clearly cares for Laphicet. She also got jealous that Laphicet being close to Elenoir

Oh, I didn't catch that, that's hilarious.

I don't know, for an ambitious cross-gen game on a limited budget I think it looks pretty good. Vesperia had simplistic graphics (I mean it was 2008) that show and the game used fixed camera angles to hide its rough edges and such. I also suspect Microsoft must have helped the budget to an extent. Not sure who would help with an overhaul here.

So, what do you you think about the snippets of combat we're seeing? It looks like they've fixed the camera a little bit, at least.

Things may change with the next entry as the producer of Berseria has said that this will likely be the last Tales game on the PS3.

I hope he qualified that, because I've been burned by Scamco, before.

No more on the PS3...because it's all going XBOX! Ahahahaha!

Still waiting for PS3 Vesperia, it'll come out, r-right? Soon...soon...

What he said was that the PS3 was the most popular console around the world when development on Berseria started, but the PS4 has quickly taken over particularly in the west. So this will probably be the last one for the PS3.
