No Man's Sky |OT| Today, in a galaxy below your TV

No Man's Sky |OT| You can't take the sky from me

No Man's Sky |OT| Elite: Dangerously huge

No Man's Sky |OT| Intergalactic

No Man's Sky |OT| Discovery 2016

No Man's Sky |OT| SpaceCraft

No Man's Sky |OT| Procedural generating across the universe

|ot|ground control to major Sean.

I think this is my favourite

500,000 - 1,000,000 possible in the first month?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's almost at 500k already - been really high up on many top selling lists, eg Amazon, for months

What happens if you die? Can you continue from a restart point / last planet, or you start over?
If you die in space you respawn in a space station.

If you die on a planet I believe if you saved you'll still be on that planet

If you didn't upload what you discovered you'll have to do it again

You recall incorrectly. You can play the entire game as a trader.

In fact, Sean says some playtesters don't even land on planets, instead just trading between stations

Well yeah, but I wouldn't say trading = economics

What cool_dude said was 'economics simulator' and I really doubt the game has a dyanmic or simulated galactic economy. It'll just have a functional 'some races like certain things, some minerals are more rare' economy.

I'd love to be wrong, obviously.

Remember that it's releasing on Steam as well. Games with Emergent Gameplay like this have a way of lighting on Fire. Look at all the Minecraft clones, DayZ, The Forest, Rust, etc.

So that's very possible.

If it's good this is going to be an incredible word of mouth game. I could see it having a lot of legs.

Also this. There will be a lot of "Yo, have you seen that No Man's Sky!?"

DayZ needed ZERO marketing, and it went nuclear over it's first weekend.

The most exciting thing for me is what Sean said about there being, for those dedicated enough, a draw to the center of the universe. I have no idea what that is and it's exciting.

I agree with you 100%.

Nice, I hope it goes well for them.

I'm trying to think safe numbers not crazy yet, lol.

One thing about how this game has been handled is that Sean hasn't promised anything radical. Like, they've been very..what's that word...the word that means they've been really grounded? in what they can do. Like Badass has been citing and what other posters have been saying, but he's never promised anything crazy and it's always been in the lines of 'If we can put it in there...'

Dude is like the anti Molyneux.
Molyneux over promises by talking about features he'd like to include in his games but hasn't actually implemented just yet, which then later forces him to back track when he can't actually do a thing.
Shaun and the rest of the team on the other hand have pretty much only talked about stuff that's actually going to be in the final product.
There even a added couple of things that they at first said wouldn't be in the game (npc's for instance) because while they were working on them they weren't entierly sure if they were going to be in the final product at the time they were first asked about them.

I think this game is going to shock a lot of people.

Honestly for an OT title, I wouldn't do some pun or silly phrase. I'd choose from a quote or title from classic sci fi.

No Man's Sky |OT| The Stars, My Destination
No Man's Sky |OT| Brave New Worlds
No Man's Sky |OT| 2016: A Space Odyssey

And seriously, if someone has the art chops, the perfect OT design would be it to look a sci-fi book cover

The screenshot thread should be called:

Or we can even bring the bad pun back into it with

No Man's Sky |OT| May The G-Force Be With You

I'd like to see a live action ad for this game. I think it could be awesome if done right.

Well maybe not live action. But some really good CG.

Think this game will sell very well indeed... it's a very exciting concept and I hope the rush to the centre story/element is not ruined for anyone (like me) who is going to take it very slow.

Hate the fact that I don't have lots of time to play games as I used to (working on my own game)... hopefully if i can plat Mad Max and Finish UC4 in time I can have this as my go to game.

A long time ago, Sean said that once the game is done they will lock in a universe that everyone will play in. It's very exciting to see what we get.

No Gas Giants unfortunately.

According to Sean Murray from this interview - http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featu...tment-of-lesser-known-no-man-s-sky-facts.aspx

Nope, the game is more re-imagined 60s sci fi universe. All planets are landable and somewhat closer together. And Sean couldn't imagine gameplay purposes for gas giants (blah). Buuut there are planets with thick atmospheres, they'll have a surface though.

Ok I see. Thanks guys. It sucks but I understand the developer intentions.

I was just watching a video where sean was talking about the multiple galaxies and everyone would start in the same galaxy. That led me to think that once people start reaching the center of the first galaxy they will be spread even farther apart in the universe. Isnt everyone always going to be in the same universe?

All that I want are cool caves. Boy do I like caves. You can make a living in them, make love in them, hide your treasure in them. Sean, please just give me my caves.

Any word on 21:9 support for this? I was going to grab it on PS4 until recently but I just finished building a new PC. Would be lovely to play it in 3440x1440 but I think it would require a FOV slider to make it work.

I really like the Hello Worlds OT title.

Same here, it has so many things going for it.

  • Hello World is similar to Hello Games.
  • Hello, world! is widely known as the very first exercise taught when learning to program.
  • The most obvious point, the fact that there are so many worlds to explore in the game. So many possible that Sean Murray feels 99% of these worlds will go undiscovered!

In development, they had multiple universes. Now, everyone will be in the same one. Also, don't forget how large one universe is lol.

These are basically still puns, MB!

Great ones tho - I love the second particularly. And if we ever get a sequel/expansion for NMS we can go with Brave New Worlds: Revisited
