Mr. Robot season_2.0 |OT| We Would Care, Bill - Wednesdays on USA

LOVED this 2 part opener for the season. This is one of the few times I found a TV show riveting, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Very relieved that the show (so far) seems to not have been lightening in a bottle for season 1, and we can expect more great things from the show going forward.

Mr Robot has an aftershow now? lol

Everyone is getting one.

This one isn't that good yet, since the three so far haven't revealed very much or introspection. But it can probably work.

Theories are already abound. The two I've seen the most so far is that Eliiot is institutionalized/incarcerated and that Leon is one of his personas.

I can't see the first one, since isn't his mother still alive?
Though, it doesn't explain why Darlene wouldn't go home and is missing her leg after 5/9
.

The second one, I could see. But I mean they already shot that wad with Mr. Robot himself.

As much as I was obsessed with theories last season, I'm just gonna go along for the ride. Yeah I'll think about it, but not to the extent of last year lol.

I don't think that's Darlene with the missing leg.

Slater's clearly having fun on it.

I knew the moment that Rami Malek started answering that favorite scene with Slater so far question that one of the three of them would reference an upcoming scene and sure enough Slater did for fun lol.

Darlene's not missing her leg. There was a clear shot of both of her boots in front of the guy.

I think that was supposed to be Mobley. We never really saw his legs before this.

This season is going to be a trip
Thoughts, predictions:
Elliot's mom isn't actually there. He's just using the concept of her so he can strictly stick to his analog loop. But she's not like Mr. Robot where he isn't in control.

I'm glad they're showing fsociety's victory as a failure. To continue the Bush comparison thread, they celebrated "Mission Accomplished" too early. They were naive to think there wasn't a global infrastructure to hold up Evil Corp, even partially.

Good Obama voice impersonator.

No, when she's crying on the floor that is her leg unless I'm not seeing the shot correctly?

She has both legs in that crying scene.

Rewatching a bit and the prison theory makes some sense.

Also, nice touch naming the notebook RED WHEELBARROW after Hot Carla.

so who's the Chris Hardwick knockoff hosting the after-show? And is he more tolerable than Hardwick?

Andy Greenwald!

After he read the intro I was expecting some variation of the AMC talk show themes to start playing.

The funniest part of this is expanding craze is reading Andy Greenwald's article from 3 years ago about how after shows are gonna destroy great television.

If you can't beat 'em...

I'm fine with after shows existing, I generally avoid them. I'm just happy people are talking TV, that's always a good thing.

Yeah, I laughed at that. But it seems they're only doing one for today and the season finale. So the aftershow (which won't be subbed knowing my luck) by the Verge will hopefully be better and more tech/hacker focused.

Also This is the book Tyrell's actor was talking about in the aftershow for anyone that wants to read it/pick it up.

Okay, Leon discussing Seinfield & some of his lines are among one of my favorite things in these first two episodes.

"I tell ya, the human condition is a fucking tragedy, cus. Word."

Like seriously, is anyone rooting for anyone? Or are we all just along for the ride?

Elliot, I'm rooting for. My spirit animal. Him confirming he didn't get why people got into sports had me screaming "yes! EXACTLY!" at my TV.

I think I'm alone now~~~~

Ah, yeah: While I'm thinking of it, I knew I heard "Anonymous Content" somewhere before and since it's Sam's company(?), I have a good feeling the Battlefield TV show that DICE and EA are licensing to the company may be in good hands.

Anonymous Content has been killing it in the film market, at least in terms of making pretty great movies. And with Mr Robot, True Detective, The Knick and now possibly Battlefield, they are making fantastic shows.

I had a feeling Gideon was going have something happen with that guy but I wasn't expecting the dude to pull a gun and shoot him. I was only expecting him to be some kind of reporter. O_O That laughing scene was kinda sorta unsettling and so much for the routine. *Insert "like a hole in the head" joker here*

Sometimes I'm just astounded at how good this show is despite (or maybe because of) the vast majority of the characters being complete assholes.

Like seriously, is anyone rooting for anyone? Or are we all just along for the ride?

Joanna even if she may be a borderline psychopath.

Thank you guys, I found her - Grace Gummer.

Apparently she hasn't been in anything that I've seen. Must just bear a resemblance to someone else.

She looks wise she kind of reminded me of Leelee Sobieski... Granted I haven't seen her in over a decade so. *shrug*

I'm so glad she's still in the show. She had been good in the show last season as a strange but not really moral support for Tyrell, but that scene between her and Elliot in the season finale was awesome. Can't wait to see what she plays into.

The first season basically had the same plot as Fight Club but for our time. Same "Hack" and same multiple personality disorder. Still love it.

Who was the girl that was getting slapped while tied to the bed? Was she in the first season?

Joanna, Tyrell's wife!

Thought that was her but the escort/security guy threw me off.

Not for season 1, new for season 2.

Also, uncensored fucks? I'm liking this new trend for basic cable not giving any fucks.
I read these two comments and thought I had somehow forgotten about uncensored sex in the premiere.

That was a hell of a premiere. I'll probably watch both episodes a few times before the next.

Thought the first episode was fantastic. The second was a little slow but the endings (both the bar scene and the phone call at the end) made up for it. I think maybe the second felt slower because there was a lot less of Elliott in it comparatively. Malek still anchors the show.

A little worried about too many new characters, although most were just in small bits (with the exception of Craig Robinson) so far. We'll see how those pan out.

Overall amazing with beautiful direction and Malek continuing to impress.

Next week looks like it really picks up steam. Too long to wait!

The laughing scene. All those minutes leading up to Elliot just guffawing at his father. That shit was just INTENSE.

Man, Tyrell's wife is smoking hot, and her fetish...can we have more of that?

Anywho, I'm totally confused and would appreciate someone explaining the episodes to me.

From what I understand Daryl from the Office wants Elliot to... hack something? And it turns out that he turns into Mr Robot when he's supposed to be asleep? Who was he on the phone with in the end?

And why did Gideon
die? Who was that dude? He thought he was a crisis actor? But why? Isn't he just the failed president of his security company that failed to keep E Corp secure?

This is such an unbelievably special show. I want to say it is head and shoulders above anything else on TV but The Americans and The Knick still exist and out of respect to those two shows I'll just say it's simply the best program going.

I have no idea how USA of all places landed ass backwards in to this staggering production but they should be commended for clearly getting the hell out of the way for an auteur like Sam Esmail and allowing his writing and directing to come across uncensored. I haven't seen such confident, singular vision in a show since Simon and Chase ended their runs years ago. This is high art. This is approaching high points for style, production and depth for dramatic television.

Hopefully this doesn't come off too obnoxious but I needed a place to vomit some praise for this show that so very much deserves it. I'm really quite taken aback by how great and unique what Esmail has created already is and continues to be.

I'll probably watch the premiere a few more times before I feel confident talking about it more and because of how unreliable our narrator is, speculation can seem sort of pointless this early in the season.

"I'm late for my church group. Peace."

Rectify is best drama, but otherwise I agree, this season is starting off from a really impressive place.

Maybe? We'll find out i suppose.

Yes, seems Elliot's strict schedule had the effect of giving Mr Robot a reliable and predictable time period to manifest/act.

Who was he on the phone with in the end?

Bonsoir, Elliot. -- Tyrell

Mr Robot gave Elliot what he wanted

die? Who was that dude? He thought he was a crisis actor? But why? Isn't he just the failed president of his security company that failed to keep E Corp secure?

Gideon was being blamed as one of the crisis actors involved in 5/9 along with Tyrell. The shooting seems to be reminiscent of Jack Ruby fatally shooting Lee Harvey Oswald. Was he just a whackjob looking for fame/justice? Or someone trying to cover up the truth about fsociety? Not sure, but leaning towards the first.

Also I think Leon is totally a figment of Elliot's imagination-- the mental ward theory sounds pretty valid

The basketball court scene where Craig Robinson first appears is super telling. Leon has an adverse reaction to the ball rolling underneath him and throws it, which seems like a Mr Robot thing to do. Plus if you notice it doesn't really show Elliot during that confrontation with the basketball player when he throws the ball away. Unless they want us to think he's a figment, too.

Yeah super odd that Leon just wanders off the screen afterwards too, leaving Elliot and Craig to talk. Definitely could be some red herrings they threw in to mess with us, but leaning towards him being a construct of Elliots mind.

But who was phone?!

This is probably it. I want to point out that it doesn't matter that Gideon is dead because he's already spoken to the FBI.

What's the spoiler policy after airing?

I'll despoilify this if the policy is we can discuss spoilers after airing, but:
- Hot damn, Angela turned cold. Christ, her brushing off of the lawyer and just annihilating all the people who thought of her as a bitch was something else. It's good to see that Sam is setting the stage for a whole lot of inner conflict this year. Angela's going to turn full on Price this season, and it is going to be amazing to watch.
- TYRELL LIVES. Hallelujah, best character is going to return in style. I wonder what the hell Tyrell has been doing since the hack. 33 days away with the ability to freely call people implies that Tyrell has been working on something big, possibly global financial meltdown big?
- The directorial style of Esmail is too fucking good. That cut between Elliot nodding off and him waking up with the phone in a random apartment was amazing, the shot through the fish tank was amazing, the gorgeous gray and steel of New York was amazing.
- GIDEON NOOOOOO :( He was the only guy I was rooting for to survive but their ain't no rest for the good. The man lost his company, his husband, his reputation, and now his life to what Elliot did. I wonder if Brock is going to continue on, and what his deal is regarding the hack. Curious to see what they're going to do with him.
