I fully expect to get at least one of these for Christmas from a family member. I'll probably pick up a few as gifts.

Good reviews on SF/HW emulation and BB 20% off combined with a Black Friday deal would make this my stocking stuffer for all my younger relations.

Some of the Atari and genesis consoles could be hacked to add a slot/more games on a SD card correct?

^I'm drooling at the SNES lists above.

They made it. They managed to sell us again the same NES ROMS before the release of their next console (with a definitive VC library/account).

Might get one of the controllers, but I have little interest in the system itself. Maybe if Nintendo finally tied VC games to your Nintendo ID, and let you tie these games to your Nintendo ID as well, so you can also play them on future Nintendo systems without any additional charge.

That's not gonna happen though.

I would kill for Battle of Olympus (and other Broderbund published titles) but who owns the publishing rights to the NA release of those now? I wouldn't be surprised if Broderbund sold it off long ago.

EDIT: I guess its Ubisoft? Whelp, there goes that.
Ubisoft supported VC a bit, even with games they didn't originally publish like TMNT NES and Prince of Persia SNES.

That said I'd assume most Broderbund games would revert to the original Japanese license holders. So like Imagineer on Battle of Olympus, Falcom on Legacy of the Wizard or D4/Compile on The Guardian Legend. Hudson/Konami published Lode Runner and Tozai published Spelunker already on VC so it's not like everything depends on Ubisoft.

what? no Blaster Master...

Whomever owns Sunsoft's back catalog don't know what they're doing with them. Didn't Victor Ireland said he was able to get Mr. Gimmick and NES Batman cleared with NOA, the ESRB (And in Batman's case, WBI), but that company didn't go further with it?

1: That was intended for the Chinese market. My post was in reference to the Western Market. I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my posting

2: The games for the IQue player are played through a memory card which plugs into the bottom of the controller. The NES classic mini has its games preloaded in the hardware. So technically the IQue player isn't plug and play.

Why do people keep quoting the EU release with the missing adapter?

It says this right in the US press release, it's front and center people. Come on.

The system comes packaged with an HDMI cable, an AC adapter and one NES Classic Controller

What a goddamn brilliant idea. And I can't think of a better time for them to release such a thing, with all the people waxing nostalgic over Nintendo, being introduced to them, etc. post-Pokemon GO.

I hope this is a massive success. A sudden upsurge in retro gaming would be a neat thing to behold.

If you look closely at the press image, there's no cartridge slot. The cover is just molded plastic.

Considering the insides are passively cooled and run off a USB port it's almost undoubtedly just a small system on a chip build. USB power in, HDMI out, and two Wii controller ports.

I guess wifi is possible but would be surprising.
I didn't mean an actual cartridge. It could be a USB stick or something. Very unlikely it would happen but would be very cool.

Separately, yeah, I have a WiiU, and 3DS, and that's not the same thing.

I need this! Can't believe the price either, it's a steal! They could have easily charged more but I'm glad they didn't. When do the pre-orders open? In before its exclusive to GAME in the UK and GameStop in the US.

very cool, tempted to buy. is the controller usb? hope they release a snes version

The controller is not USB. It uses the same port that's beneath the Wiimote.

So they will work with this new console, and the Wii/Wii U.

Can't wait to get that controller. My childhood!...

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Brilliant idea by Nintendo- about time they really emphasized the one advantage they still hold (nostalgia). Like others, hope this is leading to a SNES Mini.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Nintendo finds yet another way to sell you games you've already bought 6-7 times. Brilliant.

Please don't be GameStop exclusive or some bullshit like that.

Stop playing with my heart.

Damn day 1 buy. Hopefully it sells well enough to warrant an SNES version. I wish it had nes cart support but biggie.

I am sure someone will rip it open and throw a Pi in there.

Hm, ok. I guess maybe because I just don’t see the thread anymore on NeoGAF. I remember waiting each week, wondering/excited what would come up.

So what are the four games coming out today?
Wii VC: Bonk's Adventure, New Adventure Island and R-Type
n3DS VC: Final Fight

Seriously though. Having retro consoles with perfect scaling would be awesome.

Goodbye Framemeister

Goodbye RGB Cables

Goodbye $600 NES or paying to mod the NES.

*Note that an AC adapter for the USB cable is required to play the system but is not included in the packaging.

Nintendo loves to do this. Could be a good gift for a casual fan tho.

So these are like those old plug and play consoles from the mid-2000s?

Yes. Its bizarre why people feel like this is a new thing. Surprised Nintendo hasn't entered this space before though.

Personally I think the number of NES games that hold up today can be counted on one hand so I'm not interested. If there was a SNES product like this though I'd be in for day 1.

November 11 release. This may end up being the perfect 2016 stocking stuffer.

Yeah, this thing is gonna sell like fucking gangbusters. Just looking at the success of Pokemon Go in the 25-40 year old age group, this kind of nostalgia at a reasonable price will be such an easy Christmas season purchase for so many people.

Great move by Nintendo, if the games are emulated well and look good directly from the box I'll definitely get one.

Won't be an issue for a lot of people but it's amazing the lengths Nintendo goes to save $5 in production costs by cutting stuff like this. Just include the fucking adapter.

I'm finding it hard to muster any enthusiasm over yet another means of buying some NES games. We have the Virtual Console on Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, so this isn't a huge deal at all. Yes, some of these games aren't represented, but most of the major ones are.

If they did this for the Gamecube however, then they'd have my attention.

It was usually done by third parties licensing from original companies. This is done by the original manufacturer, it gets a wider audience.

Guessing this is a sign that Nintendo's exiting the console space since every one of these retro game boxes are from dead brands.

Also, expect the emulation on these to be terrible, like they always are on these systems.

The first point is complete bollocks and the second likely too.

I think the'll repackage unsold Wii mini main boards and just put those 30 NES games on there, like they were emulated on the Wii (which was decent enough for NES games).

Let's wait and see guys...

Y'all do remember what NES VC games look like on WiiU and 3DS? They look terrible on both. This is a great idea but I'm skeptical of the execution.

Hopefully the game selection screen looks nice and there's some scans of the boxart or cartridges. If nothing else the NES controller will be a cool thing to buy and use on Virtual Console.

It's a pretty amazing design though, I want it solely for how it looks. Lineup and price are also excellent.
