I just preordered one from Verkkokauppa. Finnish prices are high, but I don't think 80€ is out of proportion. I don't even think I'll play it that much, it just looks too cool.

I looked up the loose cartridge price for the 30 games, and it would come out to something like $478.31 to buy them all, so surprisingly NES cartridges seem to have been going back up in value despite VC being a thing. Still, I can't really imagine them mass-producing cartridges again. I think people only pay that much because it's nostalgia for the actual cartridge from 30 years ago that you can't just go to the store and buy, but if you could buy freshly-produced cartridges, then people would probably just turn their noses up at them instead.

I remember when Banjo Kazooie and Tooie released on Xbox, the N64 cartridges actually went back up in price to match the XBLA price

I wonder if Nintendo Japan is interested in releasing this in Japan (as Famicom mini, of course). Retro gaming tends to sell a lot there.

Extra Controller is GAME exclusive in the UK it seems.

How many of these games have multiplayer, by the way? Is it worth getting a second controller?

These 10 games have 2-player simultaneous modes:

Balloon Fight™
BUBBLE BOBBLE
DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
Dr. Mario™
GRADIUS™
Ice Climber™
Mario Bros. ™
SUPER C™
Super Mario Bros. ™ 3
TECMO BOWL

(might be more, not sure about Gradius).

An extra controller is worth getting even if you're using them only on Wii/WiiU, IMO.

GRADIUS should have 2 player alternate but I'm fairly sure it does not have 2 player simultaneous. That was reserved for LIFE FORCE.

Super Mario Bros. 3 only has simultaneous play in the "vs" mode, which admittedly can be a fun way to stop someone from taking turns

So Simon's Quest is in, but the far superior CV3 isn't included.

Though somehow I'm still going to end up with this I know it.

I'm sure there's a reason. Honestly though I wouldn't but Simon's Quest in here, I think it's a really obtuse game that will irritate more casual players these days. I loved it as a kid, but I can't stand it anymore.

What's so obtuse about equipping an item and kneeling at a dead end for 10 seconds until a magical tornado comes and whisks you off to the next location?

I wonder if there'll be digital guides along with (hopefully) the manuals. I recall Zelda coming with one when it released?

And this is what triggered my first and only call to the Nintendo Game Counselors. Gaming before YouTube and the Internet was seriously difficult...

The SMB3 vs mode is basically just Mario Bros though, so effectively it's only 8 games with 2-player simultaneous. Really wish we would have got Ice Hockey or Blades of Steel, and Vs Excitebike even though it was Famicom, and yeah we should have got Life Force instead of Gradius.

A physical compilation book of all of the original instruction booklets would be kinda cool, as a pre-order bonus.

There will be some sort of digital copy of the instructions for each game, likely taken directly from the VC releases. The inclusion of StarTropics almost guarantees this.

I assume the reason is that CV3 would require some kind of additional chipset, it's usually the standout game that's incompatible with cheap Famiclones.

Still though, CV2 is a pretty crappy consolation prize. I guess the thinking is that most people won't put too much time into any of these, so most people will just fire CV2 up briefly and jump around a bit and whip things while Bloody Tears plays, which is admittedly a cool little snippet of NES nostalgia. Woe unto those that press on, though.

Lol, just saw Nintendo's web page for this and their sales pitch for the 2nd controller mentions "games like Pac-Man . . . are even better with a buddy." It's just alternating play, which you could just as easily do by taking turns playing a full game or alternating lives: kind of embarrassing if they confused Namco Pac-Man with Tengen Ms. Pac-Man and thought this game had actual simultaneous play, because it suggests Nintendo employees are playing unlicensed NES games in their spare time.

If this is running via emulation which we all think it is, Castlevania III has some emulation issues especially with its sound.

Castlevania 2 was a fantastic game for any kid as long as they had Nintendo Power, as I had.
You know, I don't mind the obtuseness given all the information on the game but the slow text any time the day changes makes me want to bash something.

Why buy this when you can carve a case out of soap for your Raspberry pi.

It performs just fine on Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. Since this is likely based on one of those emulators, I'd be surprised if that's the reason it's been omitted.

I though Amazon and Nintendo fell out years ago....did they kiss and make up?

I think that happened around the time of 3ds launch, they stopped selling any Nintendo hardware directly, but I think that's been rectified in the last couple years.

Edit: ^ beaten like an egg.

Ordered from Shopto here in the UK for £47 Bargain!!!.......im now asking myself why i just ordered a Hi-def Nes kit as well for over 2 times the amount!!!

So there will be no difference between the UK and US systems then (50hz v 60hz)??

My guess is they want to get some positive press this holiday or during the NX announcement so they are saving it. No reason to put out preorders so they can all be taken by people who are already Nintendo fans and going to buy your stuff regardless. Better to save it and get mass consumers interested by having stories about it hitting shelves, selling out, and info about the new Nintendo system coming early next year.

Yeah but nah, the Mini-NES is not actual NES hardware, it's just an emu-box. Since CV3 was released on the Wii VC, they have the emulator to run it already. There has to be another reason.

That's correct, Gradius is 2 player alternating, not 2P simultaneous like Life Force. The only game in the Gradius franchise to have 2 player simultaneous is Gradius V on PS2.

Depends on the hardware. Speculation is that the hardware could be using left over 2DS bits, so an extra bit of hardware trickery may be too much for the ol' armv11 at it's clock rate. It could also be that Nintendo or Konami are holding a little back for a possible NES mini 2... Or they simply decided that 30 would be the hard limit for games in this device and decided that CV2 would be more worthy of a revisit.
