Mario Kart 8 is the worst 3d mario kart

Was prepared to go full Hulk on the OP but it was argued well that you actually convinced me on some points.

Your roster argument was lol, though. Bunch of absolute crap was cut to make way for the all time best Mario characters, the koopalings. Also Double Dash was the only truly terrible Mario kart and anyone who likes it is suspicious to me.

If there's one thing I can agree with the OP on, it's that the gameplay really is barebones as fuck. ESPECIALLY coming from Mario Kart Wii/7. The item balance sucks, and the mechanics are bland.

EDIT: Seriously though; to those who disagree with the OP (on the gameplay itself), you have to admit, they have a valid point with the item distribution and how it does fuck all at helping you make any progress in the race. You more than likely are going to end up going back and forth with same group of players because the items aren't good enough to make much of a difference. T_T

While you do have some legit complaints (Probably the worst MK cast imaginable, aside from some of the incredible dlc additions)

MK8's tracks are amazing. Some of my favorites in the entire series.

I haven't played the handheld games, but of all the home console games MK8 is the only one I care for honestly. I thought MK Wii was a total joke, and never found DD any fun. MK64 was good at the time, but playing it a couple of years ago made me think less of it.

It's one of the best...

I agree with the battle mode. It's unfortunate that the battle mode was not like MK64 which was fun to me. I disagree with the tracks part, I do enjoy some tracks in the game. I think I can get behind the characters part, there are other characters they could've added instead of the baby characters, metal mario, pink peach, tanooki mario, and cat peach (that's just me). I think the game is great. I've enjoyed playing online with gaffers and people though it can get frustrating when getting hit by items all around.

It is not as good as MK7 in many ways: balance, battle mode and track design all suffer setbacks. But the music is really amazing. Definitely top tier, but I prefer 7 and especially DS which is still the best Mario Kart game.

I feel like anyone who hates DD didn't play Shine thief or try to play the 16 tracks on 150cc with a friend. That game is easily the best Mario Kart game followed closely by MKDS then MK8.

Yeah I agree OP! It wasn't a bad game but not a very good one either.

I played hundreds of hrs of Mariokart Wii online, but could barely keep myself interested in Mariokart8's online mode.

I also, hated the battle mode as well, I don't know how Nintendo could fk up battle mode up so badly. It was terrible, played it once and never looked back.

Can't agree with your opinion op.Its one of the best easily. My personal favourite is the original on the SNES,but this would come a very close 2nd

I mean, OP, you know what? Taste is taste and I respect that you don't like a thing you don't like but holy hell I can't grasp how you could think that MK8 has the most boring track design. The gravity-bending and continuation of the glider/submersible parts from 7 allowed MK8 to have some of the most imaginative and interesting course design the series has ever had. I simply don't understand where you're coming from.

One of my favourite WiiU games, and the best in the series for me. I started out with the SNES original, lost interest after the N64 one and didn't really enjoy Wii or 3DS ones as much as I thought I would, but MK8 is a really good game. Admittedly I don't play online so can't really object to complaints about items not helping vs a race of human opponents, but local multiplayer is great.

Well thought-out OP though, ta for that.

Probably the worst thread i ever saw in neogaf. MK8 is top tier Mario Kart, the second best ever. One of the best arcade racers of recent years served by the most generous DLC.

Yep. It really grows on you. I don't think the haters really played it seriously. I didn't think much of it for years until my roommate and I played the All-Cup Tour on 150cc almost every night for like a year. You start to notice how much the game rewards skill and truly mastering the mini-turbos on straightaways and to traverse tricky sections and to avoid red shells. Nothing better than coming to the final straightaway in first place and avoiding your opponent's triple red shells with three perfect mini-turbos.

There are balance issues, like the fact that the Toad Kart is far and away better than every other kart in the game, or the fact that the light characters are the only ones worth using (due to having access to the Toad Kart, Bowser Shell, Triple Shells, Golden Mushroom, and to a lesser extent the DK banana), but as far as racing feel goes, it is the best. And Shine Thief/Bob-omb Blast are the best battle modes in the series post-Block Fort.

MK Wii runs at 30 fps in split screen mode, which automatically makes it the worst, in addition to having the widest tracks and the severe balance issues involving bikes.

I agree that the battle mode is lacking, but I disagree on pretty much every other point. Given that OP longs for more Kongs in a game, I don't think many agreements were going to be in the cards anyway. I typically don't like Mario Kart or Racing games, but I loved 8.

So does MK8

While I don't think it's the best I certainly don't think it's the worst.

Mario Kart in order of GOATness:

1. Mario Kart 64
2. Mario Kart Wii
3. Mario Kart Double Dash
4. Mario Kart 8
5. Mario Kart 7
6. Mario Kart DS
7. Super Mario Kart
8. Mario Kart Super Circuit

I owned both and played the latter less. DKR is overrated.

The only thing that saved Diddy Kong Racing was the Adventure mode, Mario Kart 64 was the better game. Also, it is my favorite Mario Kart game, to me, it still the most balanced of all of them.

Gotta say I disagree OP. You did go into detail with your complaints and nearly had me there. I disagree on nearly every point except battle mode. It's abysmal, I'll grant you that.

Even the roster I disagree on. It has LINK on the roster! LINK! Although I think the metal clones and basket of babies is pretty dumb, granted. Those Koopalings though, loved their inclusion. Whatever, all I need is Bowser. And hey, who knows, maybe Mario Kart 9 will continue it's crossover characters and we might see Kirby and/or Pikachu karting with the Mushroom Kingdom gang.

Need my Super Smash Kart.

How can MK8 even be the worst in the entire series?
I cannot compute that statement.

The series stepped up with Mario Kart DS.

MK8 as a whole package is the only thing that can compare to the sheer greatness of MK:DS.

Although MK:DS has the best battle mode in the series (blowing for balloons aside), so it's still the GOAT

Some great points about track width, roster and falling off etc. I don't agree that it's the worst though. It has some fantastic track designs, the DLC is brilliant, especially the different sound effects and rupees instead of coins etc.

Double Dash is easily the best.

Lol. I appreciate I'm countering your massive argument with a one liner, but MK8 is literally the best game in the series. MK Wii was by far the worst.

I was disappointed when it came out because I was pretty hot off of Sonic Racing Transformed and I was pretty into the variety of modes that game had. Playing MK8 since then over a few family gatherings has made it grow on me, though. I really don't dislike any 3D entry in the series, but the game is probably better than most of them.

64 as number 1? LMAO!

Sorry but that game just doesn't stack up to the LEGENDARY, GODLY and TRANSCENDING MARIO KART 8!

Double Dash better than 8? Ugh

Mario Kart 8 went back to the basics and showed that you don't need a good battle mode to achieve greatness. It's the most invested I've been with GP's.

I love Mario Kart 8, and I loved Mario Kart Wii and 7.

The only thing I will agree with is that the weapons could be better. They were a bit overpowered in Wii, and now they are a little underpowered, especially the Star.

But it is still one of my favourite games ever. I have pumped 120 hours into it so far.

Could be a little less antagonistic in the Conclusion OP. Especially after having such a wild claim like yours.

MK8 is the GOAT Mario Kart. Battle mode does suck and a few of the character additions are lame but other than that I love the game. the track design and anti-gravity parts are a lot of fun and easily the best in the series.

Yup. Also OP have you played Mario Kart Wii? I could understand if you are giving 64 a pass because it's a N64 game (although you probably shouldn't considering your claim), but Wii wasn't fun to play when it came out.

For me it's DS>8>DD top three.

For me it was the opposite, it showed you need battle mode or you end up with a hot turd. bleh

I didn't want to face this truth because she really is so pretty, but beneath the veil of beauty lies a soulless woman. The frantic and chaotic nature of her has been lost. I didn't know until now it is the width of her track and some of the mechanics which are attributed to this. But you're right. I have only just bought a Wii U and have yet to see my relationship with MK8 through, hence I haven't bought her any DLC, but the signs are there already.

And too many think Double Dash is an abomination. This is not true. It was a very good formula and Nintendo got to the foundations of MK and analysed what makes her fun and how to use that. The idea of 2 people on a kart seems to rub people up the wrong way for no apparent rational reason. A bit like infidelity. DD was a very good MK game.

The wide tracks bug me too. The anti-grav part of the track design is cosmetic. It does have a bit of blandness to it all.

All the wheel, car and kite choice bug as well. It's not like there are more meaningful choices. There are just more superficial choices.

And you might be onto something about the items. But I haven't played it in a while and never put serious time into the game. I barely touched online play.

I still wish they'd do a LAN mode (again.)

Oh and I still don't get the kites. And if they didn't have coins on the courses I wouldn't care.
