The man is believed to have launched the horrifying attack on members of the public in the town of Reutlingen this afternoon.

At least one person is dead and two others are injured after a machete-wielding man allegedly attacked passersby on a German street.

The suspect is believed to have randomly hacked at members of the public in the town of Reutlingen, south of Stuttgart, this afternoon.

A woman was killed in the horrific attack, while at least two others suffered unspecified injuries, according to local media.

The man, thought to have been acting alone, was reportedly arrested by police at the scene.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, according to Germany's Bild and Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspapers.

So messed up. RIP to the person that died and hope the others recover.

Where is the Syrian refugee information from? Just reading the news and the just say that it was a man that killed a woman.

Reports also say that he had a fight with the woman first. But if so, why did he have a machete on him. Kind of a big weapon to carry around.

Bei dem Tatverdächtigen handelt es sich laut Polizei um einen 21-jährigen Asylbewerber aus Syrien. Er ist polizeibekannt.
The suspects are, according to police by a 21-year-old asylum seeker from Syria. He is known to the police.

Apparently a driver ran him over after the attack and that stopped him if I understand it right. Good action by that guy.

According to multiple news articles, police said that he was already had a history with them. Sounds like this was not the first violent outbreak, or at least not the first criminal action.

With as many refugees as Germany has taken, seeing them commit acts like this as at the same rarity as German citizens should be a relief to the right.

But that would require them to think about big numbers and complicated things like probabilities.

Let's put you in charge for a second.

Do you take the risk of this nutcase running around with a machete, or consign hundreds of Syrian children to rape murder and torture by doing nothing?
The safety of German citizens should be paramount to everything else. Might not be politically correct but that's how it should be.

What is known now (Press release, Google Translate):

Reutlingen (ots) - Shortly before 16:30 have been received several emergency calls at the police headquarters in Reutlingen, that man had quarreled with a woman in the area of the central bus station and had injured with a machete. The woman suffered by the attack fatal injuries. The perpetrator was arrested a few minutes later in the scene close due to the rapid intervention of the police. The perpetrator injured after the attack another woman and a man.

When the suspects is a 21-year-old asylum seeker from Syria. He is known to the police.

According to current knowledge, it is a lone operator, a threat to the population in and around Reutlingen is the present state is not likely.

What is up with them always being known to the police? Are the police just waiting for them to go crazy or what?

Lots of "German" people do crime and harm each other as well. Deport all Germans as well?

People are being so ridiculous with how much they generalize so much.

It probably means that he was known for petty crime, or that he'd been a suspect in a case with not enough evidence to take legal action. Police is beholden to the law. They can't arrest somebody based on suspicions or character assessments.

With the amount of refugees that we're taken in by Germany, and the ratio of attacks like these compared to acts of violence from German citizens, do you really think Germany is less safe a result?

The thing is that countries can't throw their own people out but they can avoid letting criminals in. I think every country would be happy to get rid of their criminals. In Europe, sadly, many countries are populated with foreign criminals.

Not sure what's the situation in this particular case so can't talk about it much. Generally I do think that refugees who commit any big crimes or few tiny thefts should be kicked out immediately.

I guess this is what happens when you let people into your country without proper background checks. I think Germany has set itself up for more incidents like this.

A government protecting its citizenry is one of the functions of government.

That's a dumb argument a government continually takes risks with the life of their citizens, they allow people to drive cars, own guns, join the army, leave prison,...

Expect that you know we believe in rehabilitation of criminals fundamentally.

What have you done Merkel?

this line of thinkings helps absofuckinglutely no one. the cat's out of the bag, you helped millions of people, now you figure out a way to prevent things like this... rather than continuously stirring up hate and prejudice.

So because lots of Germans commit crime they should just bring in more outsiders to increase the crime rate?

"letting criminals in". Refugees are not criminals.

Data show that refugees are just regular people who want to survive and work and they in fact have lower crime rates than citizens.

So because lots of Germans commit crime they should just bring in more outsiders to increase the crime rate?

So you're saying a large porting of the refugees, which are fleeing from war and death, are criminals?

Just close all borders (and build walls) because there could potentially be a few criminals in the masses of people who need help?

Please tell me how putting the safety of German citizens first is not more important than anything else. I'd love to hear your point of view.

Every human life is important. National thinking is archaic. Germany is doing pretty fucking well, we can afford to take a few risk if we can help more unfortunate people.

I'm not saying Merkel handled everything perfectly, but you need some perspective.

Did you completely ignore the rest of the non-crime comitting refugees? The ratio should more or less stay the same.
Oh believe me the crime rate of refugees are much higher.

Sexual harassment alone from refugees is a daily basis now.

So many cases where refugees just grab women between the legs in bathhouses for example.

Germany should be safe for everyone. Not just German citizens. You put german citizens above others (at least thats how your posts sounds to me), this does not only include refugees but non-german residents, visitors, tourists, guests, people on temp. visas...

Just btw. secual harassment has always happened on a daily basis in a country with a population of 80+ million.

What have you done Merkel?

Very easy to say. It took a lot of courage to say/do what she said/did.

Doing nothing while thousands drown in the Mediteranean, is that what she should have done? GIve me a tolerant society over a fear-mongering every day of the week.

Not in that amount. Stop being so ignorant if you think its not much higher with refugees.

Its just facts.

I dont want this shit to happen but when you hear that shit multiple times in a week its just like that. Many have no respect for women in general.
