So why did they insist multiple times saying it's not a hybrid when it's totally a hybrid?
I guess they thought Sony would copy it.

Btw. I still wouldn't call this a hybrid if that's really just a HH that can display the content on a TV. It's just an highly advanced PSP feature.
I'd have called it a hybrid if it had advanced functionality/hardware power when putting it in the docking station or something. The only difference for now seems to be that you can use several controllers with it.
Is this what they didn't want the competition to copy though? lol
It doesn't sound like something revolutionary or something that will catch on at such a big scale that Sony and Microsoft will just stop and drop what they're doing and copy this.
Which is incredibly underpowered. The Scorpio and Neo will be out soon which will blow away this console as far as specs go and the NX will be mid generation when the PS5 comes out. I hope Nintendo has a lot of games to keep the masses occupied with their lack of third party support.they won't
Dude Nintendo could of won e3 this year:
Pokemon go/silly badge thing
Zelda aka game of the show
Baby nes
Nx portable goodness
Guess they didn't have the nx games ready.
Here's another thing, since the NX is basically a handheld, kiss the hardware storage goodbye. At most we will have 128GB of storage and how large will the games be for those who go digital?
I remember people getting angry at those that speculated that it might be a hybrid. So it's literally what we all thought it was
Oh God yes. And monster Hunter!!So I can play HD Pokemon on a big screen AND take it with me when I go?
I accept it.

I'm here for it, but not if it's some underpowered, glorified handheld that just hooks up to your TV and has ugly PS2 era graphics.
Nobody asked for that.
As someone who really enjoyed Nintendo's handhelds and consoles for all his life...well, fuck. That really bums me out. I enjoyed having two separate libraries to curate.
Yeah, this was one of my favorite features with the Go. I still have mine in the kitchen draw, but unfortunately the internal battery died and won't charge and it won't power up when plugged into the wall. My daughter actually found it and wants it, so I want to see if I can get it fixed.
So it's not a hybrid? What did people think of when they said "hybrid"?
After how vanilla and uninteresting the Neo and Scorpio announcements were, it's good to see someone is willing to try something different in the home console space.
I assume this will be the case, but the screen better be 1080p
Not in the same ballpark because it's powered by Tegra. Developers aren't going to want to deal with this when everything else is x86.
The dock could have storage itself. Perhaps you copy games over for mobile play. I could see Nintendo making a really cute interface for that.

If this is true, no wonder western third parties were laughing when asked if they were going to support Nintendo

When are pre-orders happening!??!
Ohhh, you make a good point. Kinda similar to their patent they had with 'boosted power' when hooked up traditionally to a TV.
Now while that was seemingly using some kind of 'cloud' or 'hub' tech (extra piece of tech in the home) to do so, this still may be the case where it can boost via a hub of some sorts.
Is there any negative issues to integrity or wear on the product doing so, often?
Why not just make a separate mini console with the same internals and cheaaper? Why force people who don't want a handheld buy one?
It is not doing anything in the home console space..... It is not a home console
So NX releases 3.5 years after the PS4 and has graphical capabilities like the X1.
lmao...
Nintendo did it again: Lackluster hardware compared to it´s competitors.
There is a dock, go read the article. Why wouldnt the device just have a hdmi out. Yall act like ya cant read all the suddenLiterally a system that is both a home console and a portable, and just because something can connect to a tv doesn't make it a home console. This is a handheld with tv connectivity, not really a full blown hybrid that replaces both the wii u and 3ds. This is the 3ds successor. Imo nintendo will have another home console, just not until late 2017 or more likely sometime in 2018 or so. The tv connectivity is just a stop gap in the space. They are conceding the home console generation to sony until they feel this gen is basically over. Neo isn't really a next gen system, just a reassertion of sonys dominance this gen. Maybe they will say something about next home console as scorpio release gets closer, or shortly after scorpio release.
It needs to, otherwise it wouldn't be a "hybrid" and just a "handheld with video output". It'll probably have dedicated hardware to increase the power to get some AA in and up the resolution to 1080p.Hmm interesting. So the dock may be the supplemental computing device? Could it contain extra hardware to make games look nicer on the TV, like an SLI type arrangement?
I really believe Nintendo is misreading the market. Casual gamers aren't going to want a portable console, they already have cell phones.By portable and mobile standards, it's not underpowered, and that would seem to be what Nintendo is looking at - the 60 million people who bought the last Nintendo portable vs the 12 million who bought the last Nintendo console. I mean even if the NX is one device that can cast games to a large screen when docked, for all practical intents this sounds like Nintendo exiting traditional game consoles entirely. The rat race for set top box power is no longer their concern, what Nintendo has wanted ever since the end of the Gamecube era.
I don't know how relations are currently between TPC/Nintendo, but could Nintendo actually call it the Nintendo Go and get away with it? Could Niantic own the name partially?I tend to agree.
Quoting for new page.
