So Zelda WiiU might have better visuals? Now, that's a shocker.

Overall it may be a good thing for them as it doesn't splinter the user base, combines their development and ensures larger game supply. Plus a lot of Japanese devs are familiar with similar mobile platforms.

Not the case. This Tegra chip should be significantly more powerful than a Wii U.

It honestly does not make sense for the North American market. No one will bother carrying a large portable device with them when they have their phone. And it will undoubtedly be severely underpowered as a home console, which means they lose what few customers they still had in that market as well.

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
I think the graphics are gonna be worse than underwhelming :/

If it's really a Tegra, I'm not sure how that will reach even Wii U levels....

Yeah but you have a PS4? So what's the point in making an expensive console when everyone already has their PS4/XB1's?

What's the point of buying another Nintendo portable when everybody already has a smartphone?

The NX is a solution to a question that nobody is asking.

Either way, in a world that is increasingly digital, these just seem cumbersome and unnecessary.

Absolutely not for a portable device. I don't want to be worried about how much hard disk space I have left on it. Doubtless it will have space for an sdxc/ufs card so you can buy games from the eshop, but the physical option is still needed.

I wonder if they will end up marketing this as either a handheld that connects to your TV, a console that you can take on the go, or a true hybrid that's the best of both worlds?

if this is true i may buy. I always wanted vita with hdmi output and the possisbility to add controllers via BT.
It seems a nice evolution but not a revolution though.
Hopefully it is like an updated vita with actual support.

playstation tv?

so somewhat like this then I guess.

I very much think the controllers are likely motion enabled and kept separate in the hands, like two wireless nunchucks / wii remotes with buttons and sticks.

Didn't they do that with the gamecube?

I feel like chasing the PS4 and XB1 is a surefire way to find irrelevance.

I've already got two consoles that are pretty much the same. I definitely wouldn't buy a third.

They did and they did pretty good that gen considering nobody was going to catch the PS2 at the time. I think Nintendo messed up with going the direction they did the with the Wii. It was a great concept and if it had the power to keep up with Sony and MS, they could have had success with the Wii U. Now they're stuck having to be different since Sony and MS have a monopoly on the high end systems.

Based on the FLOP number, it would still be approximately 2.5x less powerful than the Xbox One. That's not bad for a handheld, but unless the dock has extra processing available I don't see very many current-gen games coming its way.

You're not going to run a handheld at a TDP of 20W. This is almost certainly downclocked while mobile.

There are power and thermal constraints to be taken into account.

Hey guys, let's speculate about price based on this possible hardware.

$250. Worked for the Wii. Seems reasonable for the specs. 3DS bombed at launch at that price, but this can be different if marketed right since it's a portable and a console. They can really play up the play anywhere angle, not needing two Nintendo devices to game on the go and at home anymore, all Nintendo games in one place etc.

X1 is capable of 1TFLOP. With low level access rather than how its used in Sheild it could be a lot more pokey than it seems on paper.

Not to mention that there's no confirmation its going to use X1. There's a rumour floating that the devkit is actively cooled, implying they are expecting something slightly more beefy under the hood in the final revision. X2 is a real possibility...

I hope this means Nintendo handhelds having a clamshell design is over. I'm so tired of my 3DS screen getting scratched on the bottom no matter what I do.

So far this doesn't make me more or less excited.
Not doing the same mistake of assuming that Nintendo will get their ass out of the cave and make an account system I can be in charge of and region free.

But other than that? Seems like nothing yet. I just don't feel it. First time I just don't feel it.

I had a soft piece of cloth, cleaning cloth even, with me and always tucked it in between the screens. Annoying but it works.

Nvidia screwed Microsoft in the original Xbox, Screwed Sony with PS3 GPU and now it's nintendo turn.

I swear Nintendo is like the most out of touch company in history, how hard can it be to produce a system that is plenty powerful (ensure 3rd party ports) plus having Nintendo priceless IPs. its not that hard nor that expensive BUT no...lets seek an already shrinking market (handhelds) and get some of that PHONE marketshare, guess what.... people buy smartphones to make calls first, browse internet second ...and maybe game on it third. NX is not a phone, won't sell like a phone and won't sell to hardcore either.

And in a few years we will have a post mortem on why NX failed, and we will hear that someone at Nintendo said that NX should sell a billion units like iphone 7 or whatever.

That's an interesting look at it.

ARM+Nvidia sounds like it's going to support backwards- and forward compatibility in the future. No more generations for Nintendo as well, then. I hope they don't continue tieing the hardware to your account (wouldn't make much sense in this case).

Would be great if they're going for 2 SKU's:

Casual, basic, affordable SKU; standard base unit
Premium gamer SKU: base unit able upgrade performance/graphics when connected

Did you read this thread? Tegra X1 is already more powerful than the Wii U. We're speculating it's a custom version of the next Tegra, the X2.

Probably the third one, makes the most sense for a hybrid product to showcase how hybrid it is.

Disagree with everyone saying it will not be "backwards" compatible with the Wii U.

It will in a sense. You'll get those games digitally from the eshop and will able to play them on NX(crazy if they don't do this). Also, someone mentioned that this system could be backwards compatible with the 3DS. I agree with this. I think they'll announce the system as backwards compatible with the 3DS(you may not get the 3D but you'll still be able to play the games). 3DS could be cartridge or digital download. Thoughts?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

You might wanna read the EG article or at least some post in this thread. Even the Tegra X1 vastly outperforms WiiU and the best looking WiiU games are anything but underwhelming.

People act as if Tegra means iPhone 3G Doddle Jump graphics lol

Also, someone mentioned that this system could be backwards compatible with the 3DS. I agree with this. I think they'll announce the system as fully backwards compatible with the 3DS(you may not get the 3D but you'll still be able to play the games). 3DS could be cartridge or digital download. Thoughts?

I can see 3DS BC happening, no way it will be able to emulate WiiU though. Would just be way too much effort - especially if they are planning to port the bigger WiiU games over to NX anyway.

So disappointing. This is exactly what I didn't want from the next Nintendo hardware. I just see this thing costing too much to attract the handheld market, and too underpowered to pull in console gamers. Plus Tegra, UGH really.

I don't mind different, I wish consoles had more unique identities than they do now, but not like this. A hybrid was the worst possible thing Nintendo could have made. I can't see this selling more than Wii U let alone getting near 3DS numbers.
