Here's the Nintendo NX design (NB: not Nintendo's illustration, but useful pic of concept)

Controller setup seems very limited with this.

... So expect no 3rd Party support, then? Got it.

Conception III: Inception

Senran Kagura Xtreme

Criminal Girls 3: Inside the crime

Gal*Gun: Shoot harder

etc...

All those 3rd party Vita games in your Nintendo console. Aren't you happy?

Seriously though, you can expect the same portable support 3DS received, so I guess it's fine? Maybe not what you expected but it will be there.

I can get behind that, in a big way.

yeah me too, i'm all in. i loved playing on the gamepad in the bed and now all games are on this device that sounds rather powerful for a handheld and if needed for multiplayer i can hook it up to a tv. that's all i ever wanted in a gaming device. additional power when connected to the tv would be the cherry on top.

I'm team clam shell for the console design. I can't stand all of these tablet mock ups. I am looking for a slightly larger 3ds XL design.

This is almost exactly what I've been expecting since the very beginning. It's pretty much the only logical move Nintendo could have made to replace both the 3DS and the Wii U, at a time when the PS4 and XBO are well-established and not going anywhere.

Strong, multi-platform third-party support was never going to be there, at least not initially. This was always about Nintendo maximizing its greatest strength (their games), instead of dividing them. It was never going to be a graphical powerhouse. If this isn't what you expected and you find yourself disappointed, then you haven't been paying much attention to what Nintendo does and has been doing for a very long time.

(On a side note, the third-party wet dream that keeps getting revived every time Nintendo is about to reveal a new console really needs to die. It's never been about third-parties, and it's not going to ever be about third parties, until the day comes where it's actually about third-parties. Do yourselves a favor and just stop expecting this from Nintendo. Just stop.)

I've been expecting it to be closer in power to the Wii U than to the PS4, and I'm still fully expecting that to be the case. And I'm OK with that. NX will still have the best-looking Nintendo games that we've seen, and it'll likely be affordable. By having Nintendo's entire first-party library, plus both handheld and console capabilities, NX offers a really great value compared to what the 3DS and Wii U offered individually.

And I'm glad that they're going the hybrid route, as opposed to multiple form factors under the same "NX" banner. Things would have been more confusing, which is the last thing Nintendo needs after consumer confusion surrounding what the Wii U and 3DS were as products.

I don't play much handheld gaming, and it's awesome that I'll be able to play Nintendo's full first-party library at home on my TV. At the same time, there will undoubtedly be some games that I'll want to take on the go, or be able to play when I don't have access to a TV.

And they should call it the "Nintendo Entertainment System", or just "Nintendo". Even "Nintendo NX" would be fine. Keep it simple, and put the Nintendo name and brand squarely in the forefront.

I'm pretty excited. I've never needed a special gimmick for Nintendo systems, and finally the "gimmick" provides the thing I've always wanted, which is all of Nintendo's games under one roof. At long last, it's the games and how/where you can play them that's the selling point. Rather than being a new way to play Nintendo games, which the Wii(U) and (3)DS brands pushed for with mixed results, the NX seems to represent an unequivocally better way to play Nintendo games.

Personally this is pretty much everything I wanted and I might even be in for day 1.

I also think this is going to be such a disaster for them commercially in every country but Japan. In a lot of ways it seems like the Wii U in that they're misreading why they're not succeeding. Handheld gaming isn't on its last legs because of tech and specs, its because of the ubiquity of phones and tablets. Folks don't want to carry two devices, hand me down Apple products are the norm for households etc.

I like what I'm hearing so far but there has to be more to it than that. When you plug it into the TV, what then? There were some rumors about some kind of head-tracking technology being part of the equation... Anyway, wow. Two months to go.

I feel like the lack of backwards compatibility is the true shame here. While It hasn't been a staple of Nintendo since the Wii, I always assumed the feature was here to stay.

But I suppose this gives them incentive to try to reheat and resell Wii U games that didn't meet their potential.

Dolphin EMU runs on android devices right now. They could easily do software backwards comparability that way. Theonlynyhing missing would be the Wii U

Couldn´t be more excited to think Nintendo will be able to develop all first-party games for a single platform, instead of having to split between home console & portable. As a simplification, imagine if the WiiU and 3DS were the same console and shared the exact same library. We would have:

2012
Nintendo Land
New Super Mario Bros U
New Super Mario Bros 2
Kid Icarus Uprising
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Mario Tennis Open

2013
Super Mario 3D World
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Pokémon X and Y
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Pikmin 3
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
The Wonderful 101
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

2014
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Mario Kart 8
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Bayonetta 2
Kirby Fighters Deluxe
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Hyrule Warriors

Think about how many games Nintendo has released this generation. Now imagine all that goodness on one device.

That lineup!

That's what has me interested at all. Not a big handheld guy, but there's a potential for a good lineup with one format to focus on.

Sounds exciting. Nintendo's first party both on console and handheld have been stellar since the launch of the 3DS. The their handheld and console teams being united is awesome. Low power doesn't bother me at all since I think Nintendo's console offerings on Wii U are still some of the most beautiful games ever made.

The sheer idea that software output should theoretically double for this since I assume now all Nintendo teams will work on this one platform is enough to excite me.

They're seemingly consolidating their two main markets. So I don't think necessarily that 3rd party ports from the X1/PS4 are the be all and end all, although if it's a simple process then that always helps. Vita screen is what, 960x544 (qHD)? So it's not like ported games on the NX with a Tegra X1/2 would look unpleasant on the go. As for on the TV, that's another matter I guess. We'll have to wait and see.

What I do think it needs to be however, is easy, and I mean ridiculously easy to develop for. You need to encourage people to make things for this left right and centre. Physically, and digitally.

I dont get the controllers detachable from the sides to be used as separate 2 player pads part. Either these pads are seriously tiny or or the screen is more like a tablet with bigger controllers attached.. But wtf? Are there nes/snes like pads? Or are they normal current gen pads, which would make the screen look awkward? This doesn't make any sense :/

And this isn't official and based on 'sources'.

I'm not convinced.

If this is true, bleh.

Not what I wanted from Nintendo. They have different game design choices when it comes to making portable and console games and now we get the worst of both. Underpowered console that's going to be held back and a overpriced handheld that'll probably die in an hour. Not excited at all then, I want two separate Nintendo devices. I can't see third party devs jumping at this at all.
