Definitely gonna buy

But the handheld market is dead outside of Japan and the fact that it is less powerfull that the PS4 makes me think that all the west third parties will ignore the console (except for Ubisoft)
The 3DS had a good run with (almost) only Nintendo or japanese games, but with was a different time.

So I really can't see how NX can be a sucess

Were people seriously expecting BC AND significant change to the console's architecture? The PS4 did the same shake up and we didn't get BC on that.

As someone who usually buys both their handheld and console I don't see how this thing will be better than two seperate dedicated devices.

For people who usually only buy one Nintendo device this is good because they get a lot more games.
The question is if this thing will be too expensive, big and power hungry for the handheld market and at the same time too underpowered for the console market. Then you just get the worst of both worlds.

This is about where I stand. Being able to play games like Fire Emblem and Pokemon on the big screen sounds appealing, but I don't know.

If it has these two things it will be a success --

-Good hardware. I don't mean specs either. It needs to be a sexy, solid piece of hardware that people want to carry around with them.
-NEW IP games from Nintendo, at launch. It's time for Nintendo to innovate with software again.

I want to see the games and I want to be inside this thing.

Even if this thing has a comparable library to the 3DS that will be a huge step up from the Wii U in terms of third party support. Assuming the thing sells comparable to 3DS.

So its going to be a overpriced Handheld and a under spec console . Nice one Nintendo you please no-one and thanks to Carts and lack of current spec's 3rd party support will be even more of a joke than it is on the Wii U .

Worse..

...as well as likely being an overpriced handheld and an under spec console...it's also an overpriced console as you're forced to buy a handheld component you don't want if you want to play the home console.

So how is storage gonna work for this? Handhelds are inherently more depending on DD than consoles & the games are gonna be much bigger.

Damn, that's disappointing. Power isn't everything but I am disappointed that it's using Tegra, it's pretty much a mobile device that you can connect your TV. If it's not a generation out of date now, it certainly will be when the updates of the current consoles hit. I've got a horrible feeling that Nintendo are going to end up with a novelty controller again.

I'd absolutely love to have my mind changed by Nintendo but this feels like the third generation in a row that they're building machines that just aren't for me. :(

Neoxon is going to come in here and scream how Game Freak will refuse to make any more Pokemon games now.

Well, I did watch a video recently about a theory that Sun and Moon are the end of the series (or the last games before a reboot). And the first trailer said "it all comes together" as if this is the culmination of the entire series. It's actually very possible that Sun and Moon are the end.

Super optimistic about this. It sounds cool, but will third parties support it? I probably won't end up getting it as Nintendo games don't appeal to me as much as they used too.

Ninty gonna Ninty. Thats how they've always been. Their strength is the IP they own.

They've been doing that since the Wii.

I'm a bit concerned with storage if this is true, since you can't really hook up a external HDD and 32GB carts makes it sounds like the games are not going to be friendly sized.

It sounds so abstract right now, so I don't have any feeling towards it until I see it

However if this game is getting the amount of JRPGs like it did on the 3ds I would buy it in a heartbeat
Using an external dock you could hook up a USB 3.0 drive ala WiiU.

If they manage to offer X2 and advanced cooling through the dock so they could run at higher TDP, it could work well I am thinking. That's two big IFs though.

I'd imagine the third parties that support their handled games will show up, but not much else

The controller seems to be traditional, with the hybrid aspect being the gimmick.

A certain Twitter rumormonger is insisting that there's a 3TF traditional console yet to be announced, lol. Makes no sense given that any such device would have to be aimed primarily at the West, yet Eurogamer's sources aren't aware of it.

If that was to be true then GAF's majority prediction would come true. A separate handheld and home console that play the same library.

I'd say I doubt it but I don't know up from down right now. I'd much rather prefer two SKUs of the portable - one with a nicer, more expensive finish and more storage. Because storage is going to be an issue for us digital guys if the games are about 32GB.

This about sums up my feelings.

The fact that they always referred to this as "NX" surely implied it was always going to be a hybrid system.

Anyway... I hope I can log into and play Pokemon GO on it lol

Not that I won't have my phone on me anyway, but it would be great when out and about to be able to play other games on it and then just switch to GO without having to power it off and switch to my phone then back again etc etc.

This thread is hottake heaven right now

This direction makes the most sense for them right now if you think about it. I'm not quite sure how they plan to sell this thing (North America will ignore this thing while I can see Japan supporting it), but the concept itself sounds exciting to me. Having both Nintendo game lineups - console and handheld - on one system is fantastic.

One thing that scares me though is that they could design their games around portability instead of just making console games for a portable device. Less 3D Land, more Galaxy pls. Also, I hope the hardware won't be too Fisher Price toy-esque; give us a good screen that I want to play on and not like Wii U or 3DS where all is wishy washy to these HD-spoiled eyes

So yeah, exciting times if you haven't had your head in the sand for the past decade. Personally I'm interested in that thing but yeah, this will be a tough sell and they better bring it in September

Totally agreed and this can be huge if you could play some big 3rd party games on it...

This would make a ton of sense and would be an insta buy from me. I already do this with some games on my Vita/PS4 and it's AWESOME. I can bring a game with me, put some progress into it during lunch, and then when I get home I can upload my save and play on my big screen.

This would make things even simpler since it would all work from the same device. Also cartridges? Fuckin' A.

Why are people saying handhelds are dead outside of Japan? The Vita was poorly supported and the 3DS sold 60m.

If Nintendo sell 60m of these before they move on I'm sure they'll be delighted.

I love it but I'm not sure how this is going to succeed in a world dominated by phones. Wouldn't it make more sense to market it as a console that you can treat as a handheld rather than a handheld that you can treat as a console?

Big question is, does the base station add to its power, like their SCD patents? Tegra for the handheld is find and dandy and much more modern than anything they've shipped new in a while, but Tegra attached to a TV would only be a few steps above the Wii U but still well below the PS4/XBO. I'd estimate it at two Wii Us duct taped together.

Unless the base unit houses a second Tegra and they could work together or something like that. I imagine it could also clock a bit higher when plugged in directly.

I'm guessing more buttons that visible, but the controllers I've illustrated could have an N3DS style analog nub on each side, too.

It's not intended for home multiplayer, that's what Wii U Pro controllers are for. It's an on the go solution.

Would that not be rather messy tho?

Had to pay nearly 500 bucks to be able to play all Nintendo games this gen.

With NX you will likely have to pay like the half of it at most. I know people will downplay it - but Nintendo only having to market and focus on one system will help them a lot. Also when it comes to retailer space, accessorizes and co. No more divided attention or somehow having to revitalize their dead home console when they could focus all their effort on the selling system.

yeah seems a great device for people they buy ALL The nintendo label things.

Monster Hunter in HD you guys

Its finally going to happen and be console/handheld whatever you want

Basically getting what PS4/Vita should have been here (minus the power deduction)

However since the power gap is nonexistant in the Nintendo device we are getting something pretty neat here

Vita is obviously hurting in the cross play environment as we reach the limits of its hardware... Shame Sony wont iterate again..

I knew it. I said it was going to be a unit you hookup to a tv and it being a portable when you unhook.

So, Zelda NX really isn't going to be that much better looking than the Wii U version? Not an expert on mobile GPU's.

Generally speaking, a modern Tegra would have a more advanced feature set, and at least somewhat more horsepower than the Wii U.

Without the specifics, it's hard to say too directly what it would look like.

Hmmm.... Could the supplemental computing device be sold later for like $100-$150 to boost console performance?

Regardless, this seems pretty cool. Hoping it's Tegra X2 instead of X1.

Do you ever wonder why people don't take the things you say seriously?

It's stuff like this.

That part scares me. I really hope the next Xenoblade doesn't suffer. Then again, if we get more throwback type of games like top down JRPG's or like the new Sonic, I Am Setsuna etc... I guess I'd be all for it.

Even without a home console library nintendo's hand-held lineup and support has shown that's enough to support a console. They don't need power to convince third parties.

Yeah now seems like a good time to just end Pokemon forever
