Eurogamer: NX = portable w/ carts, detachable controllers, Tegra, TV Out, no BC, Sept

Sure, but not at a pricetag of $250, so far I'm hearing $99

The way I see it with any system you aren't paying for the hardware, you're paying for the value it offers. A joint Nintendo ecosystem with all the combined games that would usually be on either handheld or console is worth $250 to me. I love the concept too.

I personally really hope this is true.

I love handhelds (I own multiple DS's a PSP and a Vita).

I'd love to get a Monster Hunter 5 that is finally in HD again, and I can put on the TV. Mainline pokemon games could be played on TV (with a huge power boost since pokemon games have always been handheld focused).

As long as the messaging s right I could see this being a hit. Who honestly expected them to combat the PS4 and Xbone at their own game by just throwing out a powerful console and sell it at a loss and hope they can did into those install bases? This is probably a smarter idea than that, since the DS/3DS line is one of nintendo's most successful lines.

The main problem will be the 3rd party support since if this is to be believed, the NX would be too underpowered to port most current gen multiplat games.

HD Monster Hunter

From the main team..... Its beyond past due

I hope this is sarcasm because I can't see this being possible on the NX with the currently revealed information. Even if they say "between WiiU and Xbox One power" I still don't see it playing those titles.

You know those games are on PS3/360?

Port blaming again? It's still a mobile cpu/gpu. It's limited by it's power throughput. It has to run on batteries without killing it in minutes. You are not going to output super graphics on a battery unless you want like an hour of battery life.

Are you joking lol?

Look at the Doom 3 BFG port. More than twice the resolution as the 360 and PS3 versions with better performance.

An improved pascal GPU will probably be around 70% more efficient.

How much would a 32-64GB dedicated cartrige would cost?

whatever it is, you've gotta think Nintendo's going to be the one eating the cost. I dont think they're going to be able to get away with charging more than $60/game just because they decided to switch away from CDs.

Does the NO BACKWARDS Compatibility in the OP have any weight?

Because if so, Nintendo done fucked up.

Yeah. They're going to piss off all three of us who bought a Wii U and are going to buy this anyway because we bought a Wii U.

Really, backwards compatability is not a problem here. Didn't hurt Sony any.

I agree with you, but they really have to sell the value proposition. I don't know that customers can be counted on to intuit it.

The Pokémon GO hype probably would have died down by the time the NX comes out, so I wouldn't be too sure of that.
Yeah, but I don't think it'll be so dead that it can't be revived. Add a bunch of new features (exclusive to NX maybe?), and there's a very solid chance people will eat it up. Also having a ton of people walking around in public with their NX will be a huge marketing opportunity for Nintendo.

- Nintendo said this would be a home console
- Many rumors says you can easy port ps4 games
- Nintendo said it would be a new experience, some new way of playing games.
- Many 3rd party's are happy with that, they believe it's special and could pull a wii stunt with it.
- There isn't any gimmick.

this list speak against this rumor

Well is it two Skus or one?

Some people are floating this as the leak for the handheld

Could such a misunderstanding be taking place or is the hybrid concept the real deal?

You decide

this list speak against this rumor

-You can play it at home
-With a Tegra X2 and a modified CPU, it could still get PS4 ports
-Detachable/unique controllers are probably what they're defining as a new experience
-This doesn't change point 4
-The gimmick is you can play handheld on the TV

It worked for Sony. Microsoft suffered losses this gen, both consoles sold less than the Wii past gen and the underpowered PS1 and 2 won their respective gens as well.

Not really. Sony got it right architecturally - simple, straightforward, no gimmicks. MS got it wrong by relying heavily on Kinnect and devoting resources to played out motion controls a la Wii. MS made a terrible design decision and paid the price for it.

If Nintendo adopted Sonys design strategy they would succeed. Spare me the GameCube logic where they came in with awkwardly small storage capacity discs and a staunch refusal to adopt online gaming when it was catching on like wild fire. They sabotaged themselves then. They're sabotaging themselves now. If this thing can't crank up the juice and push better graphics with some console dock, it's dead on arrival. Worse than WiiU. You heard it here first.

1. It could function as a home console.
2. I mean, you're just saying this rumor disagrees with another rumor here.
3. This is a new concept, which is what Nintendo describes NX as.
4. I'm not seeing how that means this could not be true.
5. Says who?

I would be more than happy to see the NX running Destiny on the go!
I'm sure if Nintendo greenlit a 500 million dollar budget game, they'd manage to put a game with the production values of Destiny on their new system.

But with a wish like that, there's obviously other limiting factors at play.

Does it make much sense for the dock to not provide additional power?
The PSP had component out to allow you to play your games on a TV, sure the only input method was a PSP but that could easily be bypassed by design. Just having HDMI out on the system would eliminate any need for a dock, there has to be more to it.

I'm looking for a home console on par with XB1/PS4 (that ofc plays Nintendo games).

You will never get what you want. Nintendo hasn't competed in the power race for over 10 years. It's time to let that dream die and decide whether you are in it for the games or the graphics. Yeah both is great but now you are being forced to choose. If you decide to forego NX then maybe you will be helping force them to go full-on mobile or console third-party, but probably mostly mobile. Remember, Nintendo's plans are built around Japan's market.

Hmmm. Yeah, I don't know what to think. As Schnoz said, they'd definitely need a copious number of vents on the underside. Even that may not work well enough.

It would be cool if they made the exterior the heat sink and we got a really nice aluminum hh with gentle fins.

Both controllers better have two analogs, d-pad, 4 buttons and at least 2 shoulder buttons.

AKA, they better not consolidate the controller options to make the detachable/handheld device a reality.

Feels like a concession in the home console market if true. The proposed device isn't very appealing to someone like me. Especially if they cheap out on the battery life like with the Wii U game pad.

Much as I want this to have an X2 chip and thus solve the underpowered home console side of things, we know they're not selling this at a loss.

As a handheld, it's everything I've ever dreamed of, hybrid concept included. But as a home console when you take away the context, its potential Wii U+/sub Xbone specs are disappointing.

So you think its going to use a overclocked X1 chip with active fan cooling in a handheld? Obviously they won't keep the active cooling in a retail product. So either they put X1 on a smaller process to allow for passive cooling at the higher clock rate or go with X2. Moving X1 to a smaller process just for NX would probably be more expensive than just going with a X2.

This is more horseshit than the printed controllers

They're either super guillable or they enjoy playing around with guillable people.

I was rereading the Eurogamer article and then:

They go out of their way to say the brain of the NX is on the portable part, and that is what is connected to the TV, so for now I will not hope for more power coming from the dock.

Didnt that patent say that the SCD would have its own CPU and GPU, meanwhile it would able to increase proccessing power through nearby SCDs?

I LOVE the hybrid idea. Any fixed tv/monitor gaming I do is pretty much exclusive to PC and then occasionally rolling with the 3DS. This is perfect for me.

People saying this rules out PS4 ports are being silly. DQ11 is coming to NX remember? They could still get a significantly cut down version of the PS4 game on NX, its not as if its so far out of bounds that it can't display modern graphics pipelines and stuff like that.
