Capcom now has 75 games that sold more than a million

Like every quarter, Capcom's Platinum Titles page has been updated and there are some new games here. 4 new million sellers to be exact : please welcome Remember Me, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Duck Tales Remastered and Resident Evil 0 HD Remastered.

Other games that moved during the april - june 2016 quarter were Resident Evil 6 (6,5 million ---> 6,6 million), Dead Rising 3 (2 million ---> 2,1 million) and Resident Evil Revelations HD (1,5 million ---> 1,6 million). Street Fighter V didn't move from its starting point (1,4 million) however.

As for the Q1 results, they are not very good. Capcom lost 1,4 billion yen compared to a 1,5 billion yen profit last year. That is despite the good japanese sales of Ace Attorney 6. While Capcom was disappointed with Dai Gyakuten Saiban, they are perfectly happy with the new numbered title.

Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice sold largely as planned with sales supported by core users, in addition to fair digital download sales.

Capcom is confident about the second half of the fiscal year (which includes Dead Rising 4, Resident Evil 7 and a to be announced Monster Hunter title) and has not changed its forecast for the fiscal year (9 billion yen net income).

I... really, really doubt Capcom is happy with AA6 sales. There's just no way. 15th anniversary, big promotion, anime, completely free DLC case, and it still hasn't sold as much as AA5 first week?

You ain't fooling anyone, Capcom ;)

If that's what they had planned... I dunno.

Edit: looks like AA6 has reached AA5 First week sales according to Famitsu, but it certainly took a while.

Remember Me actually made it to the MILLION sellers list?

For all the flaws that the game had and the flak it received, it's really heartwarming to see that. There were tons people jabbing at the title since "no one would remember this game"

Current gen port Capcom u know I will buy it

I'm still worried Capcom has sabotaged RE7's mass appeal, but it should do well regardless.

Also nice to see RE5/6 get those bumps.

I'm sure you mean Street Fighter V, not IV.

Happy that Ace Attorney continues to be a solid franchise for them, if what they are saying is true.

Also pretty cool to see DuckTales Remastered there. I really liked that game.

Reminds me that we really need a new Ghosts 'n Goblins (makaimura) game.

Oh to note that for whatever reason, Capcom doesn't include their Disney licensed games for NES/SNES in that page.
Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (NES), Duck Tales (NES), The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse (SNES), Aladdin (SNES) are all million seller.

Top 12 Capcom games are nothing but SF, RE and MH...
Those franchises are Capcom's "bread and butter".

A shame that SFV didn't move much. Though judging by the OP, these were the numbers as of June 2016 (I.E. Before both the Story Mode update & EVO).

That said, I'm glad that AA6 sold well. Hopefully it also does well in its Western release.

Judging by the position in the list I can only assume they haven't updated Dragon's Dogma to include the PC release.

The link OP provided has a lot of sales details published by the Capcom. I didn't know that publishers share such list with that transparency and details. Do you guys know other companies that do the same?
We see official reports about a specific game but not an updated list with all their products.

I don't get it. With all these million selling games why does Capcom always seem to be broke? They needed Sony's funding to get Street Fighter V made, they cancelled games like Mega Man Legends 3 because they were afraid it wouldn't do well financially, and they are just sitting on franchises like Darkstalkers because they're afraid there's not enough fans to justify their costs. What's going in there? They were the Kings of the Arcade and not it seems like they have to make super safe business moves just so they won't sink.

A game selling a million copies isn't much in the larger scheme of things, especially for console games which 2-3 year dev cycles made with medium or large teams. Super low bar. Remember Me probably sold the majority of those million copies on PC during Steam sales. Another thing to consider.

Games are expensive to make.

This feels like a good thread to ask, since it's something I've wondered about for a while. What actually happened to Capcom's money?

I've been reading about what a bad financial state the company is in for ages, but can't think of any huge blunders they've made. Off the top of my head, their main franchises like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil are still huge sellers.

Damn SFV :(

They made some big bets last gen that did not pay off such as RE6 and DmC.

Monster Hunter Generations is stuck at 3.3 million in Japan, it will only need to sell 0.8 million units in the West (assuming that in Japan will still move at least 0.1 million units) to become the best-selling Monster Hunter title on Nintendo 3DS. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will remain as the best-selling entries.

I was surprised to see Remember Me, but then I checked SteamSpy and it sold around 640,000 units.

I don't think anything happened to Capcom's "money". They're definitely not broke. It's not that they literally can't afford to make Street Fighter V, it's that they find it too risky to make it alone. They are risk adverse now, not broke. It's different. As for why, it's because they are finding that it is costing more and more to make games which can compete at the top level of 3D action offerings in the market today, which is their wheelhouse. Along with the rising costs, they don't seem to be seeing an increase in sales, so this pattern has the management bothered. Their answer to this is to triple down on things which are cheaper and more profitable (domestic titles like Monster Hunter, mobile offerings, etc) and limit their investment into riskier AAA games through partnerships.

Means nothing because the money isn't cycled back for proper development . SFV for examply , can be labeled as SFV : Outsource edition with how much of the game assets being outsourced to cheaper companies . With those money they actually made during the past , one would expect them to be the forerunner in gaming industry nowadays , but sadly they are far from it =/

A mean damn shouldn't a million copies of a game mean more than a drop in the bucket? Street Fight V looks gorgeous and it looks like it plays wonderfully mechanically but it has to cost much less to make than the heavy hitters in the industry like Madden, CoD and GTA. Like those are much more resource heavy games, its crazy that the company that made Mega Man, Street Fighter, & Resident Evil to not be rolling in dough.

Game Series Sales got updated too:

Resident Evil 69 milions
Street Fighter 38 milions
Monster Hunter 37 milions
Mega Man 31 milions
Devil May Cry 15 milions

Dragon's Dogma reached 2.9 milions, it was around 2.1-2.2 last time i checked, must be PC versions sales.

Ace Attorney series moved 400,000 units during the first quarter.

This doesn't mean that Ace Attorney 6 sold that amount since catalogue sales are also included and it is a rounded figure. Ace Attorney 6 should be much closer to 300,000 than to 400,000.

Wait, SFV is still sitting at 1.4 million? Jeeeez... D:
Here's hoping evo and the espn spot they got will help boost the sales a bit.

They're risk averse, yet they lock their biggest franchise down to one company. Makes no sense for a company that needs the money.

So SFV was overshipped and Monster Hunter is going to surpass Street Fighter as a best seller series? Damn...
