lmao at this schrodingers multiplayer situation. This is exactly why people were critical of the approach to marketing this game.

Kind of like PS Plus in a way.

Lots of AAA games on PS3 prior to PS4 launch. Gets everyone excited. Drops AAA games on PS4 and zero messaging giving hope to subscribers saying they are coming.

Whatever the end reasoning is, this response from the community seems like a great way to make sure devs never actually try to put big surprises in games anymore. It's bad enough already that we day 1 guides and data mining.

I don't think you understand the issue? The issue isn't that "the game has big surprises", the issue is that the developer of the game might have repeatedly trough years lied about a feature that isn't in the game. (and if it got cancelled, he didn't think it important enough to mention, which is also bad)

Then why hasn't he said so? Makes no sense. The dude is Tweeting, but completely ignoring the question, which heavily implies multiplayer isn't in the game.

Common theme from the looks of it, i wouldnt be suprised if they just allude to the idea that the lack of a mp (assuming players cant see eachother) is the result of server issues that just so happen to present themselves when players are close to eachother...theyll never say this outright ofcoarse

What? This isn't addressing the situation at all! But since he didn't state what happened was not intended, the multiplayer doesn't seem to be in the game.

How is it not addressing the situation?

If I made a game with no multiplayer and people met up in it, my mind would be blown too.

He truly sounds like a guy you'd avoid in real life because he's always vague and avoids giving direct answers. Would be perfect for a used car sales men.

He actually gives straight answers when asked in person though, that's the thing

Bunch of damn grown ass babies on the internet. It's sad and pathetic how people are treating this.

Servers are down but it don't matter. Better cause a shit storm because two other random ass people tried to meet up when the online servers weren't up. hurr durr

Fucking pathetic

What's ambiguous about stuff like:

Interviewer: "You guys are literally building your own massively multiplayer world."
No contradiction from Sean. Sean sits there and plays the shy guy. (or maybe he is... doesn't matter tbh)

Interviewer: "Do we ever get to see ourselves?"
Sean:"... the only way for you to know what you look like is for somebody else to see you."
Interviewer:"Can you run into other people?"
Sean: "Yes.... unlikely to happen"
Interviewer: "WOW"

Interviewer:"How much interaction is there with other people playing NMS.."
Sean:"Those were AI ... but you could encounter other players..."

Interviewer:" Will you be able to play with your friends?"
Sean:"Yeah!"
Interviewer:" Can you grief other players?"
Sean: " A little bit."

A bit vague on Sean's part. He could be talking about another game for all we know.

This dude worked probably ungodly hours for who knows how long and finally released his baby, and people are stressing about his Twitter comments on maybe the best/most exciting/stressful day of his life.

I'm turning into Bart's grandpa.

I hope I never see another person in this game.
I hope I never see one of these people that are so desperate for
Again, why dont simply say on twitter there are server problem? Dodging the question dont help them

who gives a shit? you shouldn't. settle down and give them some time. IF it's a thing they're probably working to find a cause before shouting from the rooftops. it's it's not a thing, it doesn't change the game at all.

I think we can discount the whole he lied thing, I mean... if it was a lie and it isn't in the game at all, then why add the scan for other players feature? Stick to calling him out on poor communication.

At this point my bet is on Sean trying to kick the can down the road with non-answers until the update in which they can bring this back in.

I see no other reason that's still within common sense for the today's tweets.

Could be. Maybe he really thought the Universe was so big in the game that they wouldn't need to worry about it for awhile. Then of course it happens Day 1.

Like that girl that doesn't say no but doesn't pick up your calls either or gives excuses. Guys need to take a hint.

Holy shit! An online feature in a game isnt working as planned on the day of release!?!? What is this unheard of phenomina? Outrageous!

What on earth is your issue? The servers were up during the meeting. Why are you so angry at people asking a simple question, "What happened to a feature you said was in the game?"

Seems to me far more people are hating on people who are simply trying to make sense of the matter!

Right. I agree, and concerned in light of those things. The ambiguity comes with the more recent statements that are a bit more open-ended and leave room for more confusion than anything else. Don't get me wrong: If the quotes you posted end up not being things that are in the game, I will be very disappointed, as they were things that got me excited. And Sean should be held to account for those things NOT being in the game if that is indeed the case.

That said, there is the possibility of this being a technical issue. If it IS, it would be nice to know that in direct terms. That there have been zero direct messages conveyed as of now, it is indeed troubling.

I agree on this being a huge problem (and the reason this thread is exploding). I can absolutely understand that something went wrong and a technical issue, bug or server overload (or whatever) prevented the players to see each other and to interact (somehow...)

But this Tweet, the ambiguous tweets from today and the fact that those two players weren't able to see each other makes me think that live player interaction isn't possible in this game at all.

The game menu tells you the server is offline and you can't connect. What else do you need? Seems rather obvious if this is the case.

I'd like to add that I was there live at the first time the two streamers tried to see each other and they were both connected to the online.
There were some other hiccups though, basically NAT related.

The second time, one of them could not connect to the servers.

It is all a bit inconclusive, but at the same time, we were told meeting someone else is SOOOOOOOOOO rare and then we got it day 1 and it doesn't work.... it's just something people latch on to.

I personally believe it should be tried again when the servers are fine and both people have a proper network connection and until then it is not disproven.
And I say this as the guy who made a video about the thing for a laugh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv1CkZXBROc

If there is 'real' multiplayer, how does pause work? Does it disable when you instance with another player?

Has anyone shown the proper pause btw?
On streams I never see the animals and such actually stop moving in the background when you have your menu and such open.
Is the inventory not the pause? Can anyone confirm pause is in the game?

Was it confirmed server issues preventing players from seeing eachother? Did the devs say the two guys who found eachother will be able to see eachother when the servers are more stable?

Lmao this thread is gold. It's like nobody in here tried a hyped game with online services the first week.

No it's more like there isn't any definitive answer whether they can even be sure of what exactly they're missing out on because of alleged server issues.

People still don't know if the functionality they want and has been constantly, vaguely hinted at is just currently experiencing issues, or is totally non-existent.

One of the guys can't fucking chat to people 50% of the time cause his NAT is fucked. This was established on the first two bloody pages.

This is a real fear of mine. Very real. It's almost impossible to imagine a game that could successfully pull off a non-plot-twist surprise these days because most folks just apply templates to games as soon they see the first preview, and by the time they play them they already have their assumptions partially to mostly vindicated by whatever matches up with them in the first 5 minutes.

Sean: "Yes, the multiplayer is in the game, but unfortunately doesn't work now. due to server issues. "

/thread

Yet he doesn't do so. Why keep this going?

So what? Check online in the game. Online servers aren't up.

Half of you give no fucks about the game but here y'all are to talk shit when you can.

This game reminds me of that other huge disappointment, Diablo 3. I mean, Diablo is ALL about multiplayer, but somehow blizzards head was so far up its ass that it forgot to include the feature in Diablo 3. I tried all launch day to make it work before giving up. Their Twitter was so misleading about it, too.

Lol at the turn on Murray, saying he's this "fake shy guy" now. I'd bet my house these were the same people who were saying how much they loved Sean's nervousness at each E3. This backlash is so pathetic and was spotted from a mile off.

So what? So what that the servers were up during the meeting? And that only Sean can confirm an unknown issue?

I'm not going to let this go, so what what?

Yeah if it was working fine and they couldn't see each other that's a issue since they've more or less said you would. However I believe even if they could connect to online there might be instance issues at the very least. It needs to be tested again for sure.
Yeah? The people meeting did that and were both online on the servers.
Yeah but it's all not probably running on one server so their interaction might be borked. I think day 1 of a online component and the outrage is crazy. I mean if a few days down the road it still don't work then yeah, you can get angry.

So the last update in that reddit thread says they finally met up. So it works.

Why is this still a thread? Time to close this shit hole.

No they didn't meet. Later the guy posted they found the same planet, but didn't meet real-time.

You clearly have major issues with anyone criticizing your new favorite game.

I think the next few years will unfortunately see devs going back to relative silence.

If you watch the stream they were both online at the same time. No question about it.

Again, there is a sever issue, or the feature isn't there.
Being online doesn't make a difference with NAT. I've been online with a buddy, both in Rainbow Six and we can't party up because his NAT is incompatible with mine. Do you understand what NAT is? Or are you just being upset for the sake of it?
