True.

Bedlam (great name) - it's a 12 person studio. They still don't have the Steam release locked or uploaded. I know one of the big PC streamers, they haven't been given a copy because they aren't done still. Sean hasn't slept in a week, he wrote the first line of code and he's still coding now. I've seen their studio - the BBC did a tour of it recently - it's literally one room of people eating pizza at their PCs (who also read here, as they link to it on their website).

Also, business reality - Sony are their physical publisher and have legal rights because of that. There is no way Sean is going to randomly tweet something out generating headlines like "No Man Multiplayer" as their multi-million pound deal is rolling out, Sony would go el-Nutto.
They don't have a financial deal with Sony outside of promotion. Certainly not one that fiscally rewarding.

For people that say this is an "easter egg", an easter egg is something I can find. If someone tells me they hid one and I search for hours to find out they really didn't hide it, I'd be pretty pissed.

That being said, Sean wouldn't lie, so I'm pretty confused right now.

Reading the post a few pages back with the quotes from the Atlantic article I'm not so sure anymore. The stuff about skyboxes reads like he wasn't involved at all in the gameplay design, or he's just telling the interviewer exactly what they want to hear. And that was in February when the game was likely already in alpha.

Reading the last few pages on skyboxes, fake suns, and closed in solar systems with planets that don't orbit is depressing.

Looks like Morrowind Daggerfall is still the "game map size" champ.

So wait, I'm confused. Is the galaxy static or do planets actually orbit their stars and the stars the center of the galaxy? Do you encounter gravity when in orbit? If you're on a planet and look up at a night sky that's a skybox not the actual position of the stars as you'd see them looking up? What fake suns? I was under the impression this game was like a more interactive version of Elite or the pretty awesome Space Engine? Is this not what that is? How big are the planets you land on? Man this seems to be getting more confusing the more I read this thread.

This just strikes me as a mental level of vitriol

until recently i thought people were using the word "hivemind" because it was a feature in the game.

Not only did they say that, it was in an interview from February this year! The game was only 3 months away from going gold at that point.

holy cow... new level of BS from their side then. I was reading that whole thing about them deciding with particles in the air the colors that are selected based on it, so its not an artist making the call. i mean... who are they kidding?

No, they do. That's why they couldn't talk release dates, delays etc. You obviously get financially rewarded for shipping a game, and the contracts have all kinds of statements - Sean said that.

About this gag-order talk. I imagine the only thing that Sony could possibly put a gag-order on is him admitting that there is no ability to actually meet other players. This is assuming that Sony wants to be deceitful, and its an unfair assumption. Even if that were the case, it wouldn't change the fact that he lied. It would only mean that he is unable to admit that he lied.

He honestly should of said something by now, even the worst PR person would have said something at this point. Only reasonable thing I can think is he's not allowed to say anything currently.

It's many big skyboxes, each with several planets in it and one image of the sun on the side which you can never reach. It's no seamless space. Manual travel between solar systems is not possible. Need to load/warp from a menu.

No really, Murray already responded to the controversy on his twitter. Attributed the two players not seeing each other to server issues caused by too many people playing at the same time. What more do you want?
No he didn't. Not at all. Those tweets were completely independent. That's just what some interpreted into them.

I'll do an avatar bet with you that that isn't the case for the game. There's no multiplayer right now, on August 11th, 2016.

Reminds me of when the Queen refused to speak after Diana's death. Even she was forced to eventually.

You underestimate corporate fuckery to protect week 1/2 sales.

We'll get a response/apology/something but it will be as drawn out as possible to maximise $$$ flying the fuck into bank accounts.

PC launch is imminent, gotta protect those sales and pre-orders about to hit.

Artistic director Grant Duncan recalled roaming an alien planet once shooting at birds out of boredom. “I hit one and it fell into the ocean,” he recalled. “It was floating there on the waves when suddenly, a shark came up and ate it. The first time it happened, it totally blew me away.”

Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies.

If this is true, then it's really shitty

It's not even a small fib. It baits people into imagining a whole lot more. If something miniscule like that happens, people will assume a whole lot more events like that happen too

Am I right in thinking animals just walk or attack?

I really wonder if they wanted a few more months, but sony said no

I've already decided to wait until Saturday morning to buy the game just to wait out the PC launch. If there's no new clarification or info, or if new fuckery comes out of the PC version, I'm not buying it until I start seeing an all-clear.

Oh, look. Pure little developer found some time to promote the PC launch. So nice of him to think about us.

So much so that you can't even pre-load it! Isn't he nice, ignoring all the questions being asked.

Oh I do love these down to earth and humble indie developers!

So nice. So barefoot.

Don't worry, Sean. Take your time. You can give the answer after your next vacation.

Man this thread turned bitter as fuck the last couple hours.

I'm glad this happened for us PC players as I would have bought it on release if it was day and date with PS4 and probably been just outside the 2 hour window for refund before I realized it's not the game they said it would be.

Unfortunately, a lot of people from the looks of it....

AND FOR $60.

I mean. i was really interested at the reveal. Then from every thing they showed they really never showed anything extra or new. I wrote about this to a friend of mine on chat earlier. This is how it went.

That was my experience with the game.

Obviously i want it to be good, everyone benefits from a good game. But its just right to call them out on their BS. Specially when things like this were being said.

For you.

Is the response as invisible as the players? Because that response doesn't seem to be anywhere.

Just to be clear, you're insinuating that the feature Sean didn't lie about is in the game and it's all just a big pile of server errors?

We'll see tomorrow. One way or another.

Whatever the reasons Sean/Hello Games has dun goofed. He shouldn't be accepting any deal with that sort of gag order in it either. Well, I personally don't think so if you value honesty and your ability to converse with customers.

With the thread about the Neo making it possible to fundamentally change the game, I wonder if they had to scrap a bunch of features for the ps4 version?

He didn't say that at all. He said it was surprising that the two players had found each other already. And he said he was amazed by how popular the game was and how they're having trouble keeping up. But he never explicitly said x is caused by y, or that the meetup wasn't working as intended, which of course gives him plenty of plausible deniability.

"GAF's biggest wanker"
Is this a joke or what?

This guy was tweeting constantly each day right until the "can we see other players?" question blew up. Then sudden radio silence.

You've got to be naive to no end if you believe he has no time to respond.
Are you suggesting Murray is naive then? Because the implication here seems to be that his radio silence is deliberately to try to avoid the issue even thought he could do that just as easily by continuing to tweet about anything and everything else while selectively ignoring the MP issue.

I agree that there is no multiplayer on August 11th, 2016. According to Murray it's due to server issues. I don't know if he's telling the truth. My point is that he already gave an explanation, so I'm not sure what else people are waiting for.

But if you tell me a lie, and then the time comes where that lie is now impacting me, just because you are unable to contact me for whatever reason and explain your lie, it doesn't change the fact that you lied. That should be the key thing here.

Another poster who clearly hasnt read all the responses to this exact comment multiple time in this thread.

Nah guy was right. People are wasting days defending either side. Confuses me that you either don't just go play or move onto looking for the next big topic to rant and fume about.

Again: Murray did not give an explanation.
