Well yeah, because every day that passes is one more day that people buy it and get disappointed.

Again with this weird having your cake and eating it too, what exactly are these people getting disappointed by? The steam and gog pages and the ps4 box are explicit that its a single player game. So to be expecting more than that they'd need to be a bit more informed, so what you're suggesting is that there is this huge swathe of people who are informed enough to be expecting a limited form of multiplayer yet not so well informed that they know about, the apparently huge, controversy that is the (most likely) lack of multiplayer?

I really think this game would have not been so criticized if it was $30. With the lack of MP, on top of the other features they failed to deliver on, it just doesn't have a $60 value for me and many others I'd guess.

Totally agree, the fact I cant spend literal real world years flying between systems totally killed its replay value for me, going to be a future bundle sale if ever now.

Man all that talk about reinventing periodic tables and how their game has 'real physics' where every other game games it....why didn't someone shut this guy up a long, long time ago. That shit isn't just shades of Peter molyenux, it's orders of magnitudes worse than the dumbest things molyenux has ever promised in one of his games. We tried to tell you guys this game couldn't possibly live up to this kind of hype. Going back through the old threads would be so entertaining now that all has been laid bare. I'm among those of you still enjoying the game but anybody even attempting to defend this gibberish needs to go see a doctor.

Flat out bullshit, if you honestly believe this then you have no idea the crazy shit Molyneux has promised over the years, I mean he talked so much bullshit about BC they had to cancel it (not the actual reason, but lord did he spew some shite about it that could never have been true).

It's not though. People are showing proof/evidence of being deceived and defenders come in here trying to downplay it with no ground to stand on. It's weird.

Still the best thread on Gaf in a while.

People are also just being sarcastic dicks to others who simply don't feel as strongly. So yeah, it is! And, yes, it is weird that people in here are so averse to anyone not calling for Sean's execution!

Like who? Who are these people? Please point them all out.

We went through this same song and dance yesterday.

Two Words, for one.

I ain't trying to turn this into a witch hunt tho.

I'd just like civil discourse period. I tried that and was literally insulted! /shrug

I did a quick cursory glance of Two Words post history, I didn't see him calling for Sean Murray's head. Anyone else?

So how many people does HG need to hire before we find out if a feature exists in a game that released 5 fucking days ago.

The algo is still working on figuring that number out. It'll get back to you.

So did the game get datamined? Did we find anything else confirmed? I know there were other elements of the game that Sean greatly exaggerated/lied about, but anything come from the tinkering of the game in the past day or two?

What? I'm saying people are being jerks to others who don't like this witch hunt. What about that is hard to understand?

I'm honestly confused as to why you keep calling this a witch hunt. Is there even a call to action here? It seems like people are just talking about how hilariously brazen some of the deception/poor communication is/was with this game.

Yeah... I've seen some posters here say: they're trying to fix bugs/issues, they need a break, etc.
I get and respect that, you know, they've been working there asses off and I'm sure they still are right now, but the game has been out for almost a week and they still haven't answered people's questions.

The game is out. People have spent their money on it and people still don't have answers. That's pretty insane imo.

Sorry, I did misspeak there. That was my fault. What I meant was that there are certain people here who ARE reacting way too harshly and demanding evidence of "lies" as far back as they go so they can, what, compile a list and show it every time Sean ever makes a public appearance again? That's a witch hunt. It's unreasonable. It's above and beyond asking for answers about multiplayer. It's expressly looking for more reasons to be angry at a man who made a mistake.

And when there are people who express distaste at that, they are often met with sarcasm or outright insults. Assumingly with an intent to rile them up or make them leave.

A similar thing happens when someone suggests, hey maybe THAT thing actually had a reasonable explanation. It's met with sarcasm and people making snide remarks.

This sort of attitude doesn't help anyone!

I also think people like Uthred are problematic. Acting like there's no problem whatsoever is just as harmful to reasonable discourse.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from a thread on GAF, but I have had many reasonable discussions on these forums with people who disagree very strongly with me and I think that's awesome. Sucks when it can't be THAT way.

I've noticed that several people pretend to misunderstand me in an attempt to make me angry.

Sorry, I did misspeak there. That was my fault. What I meant was... .

Seems like there may be a communication error on your behalf.

I have been reading this thread and have seen you get into disagreements with quite a few people because they dont understand you.

If I were you, right about now would be the time I'd be asking myself "Why is it that no one seems to understand what I'm saying??"

It might be time to reevaluate your communication methods, just sayin'.

Aww.. Your sarcasm is cute. You tried to be funny. It's the thought that counts.

Just as good as everyone else in this thread, really!

But seriously ulthred stop. You're not helping anyone with your willful ignorance.

Sarcasm? Wilful ignorance? I wish, People were literally complaining about this very thing earlier in the thread. Keep up people.

So is multiplayer in the game, yes or no?

All signs point to it not being there, though datamining has shown some assets that are possibly for it

Seems like there may be a communication error on your behalf.

So true, I mean when they were met with such clearly good faith attempts at discussion as:

Please stop assuming I'm angry and actually answer my question. Just because you side with Sean Murray doesn't mean you have to act like him too.

The problem is clearly entirely on their end.

Sorry for slow reply. 1. I didn't bring up the comparison, and 2. I played a lot of B&W and have definitely had a better time with NMS.

Yeah, this. A passing MP feature and some minor smoke-and-mirrors aside, NMS is 90% what they promised it would be.

It's nothing on the level of "plant a seed and it will grow for years in-game" Molyneux

I came late to playing B&W1 but the time I spent with it I did enjoy it. B&W2 was a lot of fun for me though and had a good time with being a god in that game. I did not follow Molyneux on his time with the game at all though. I can only imagine the things he may have said. I don't even dislike Molyneux and played about 70% of the games he's had a hand on. I just don't believe him after Fable. That's when I started paying attention to the source a bit more.

I admit to not paying super close to NMS after it's announcement and him talking about the MP on Colbert. COLBERT? That's awesome an Indie Dev got to go on COLBERT! That's pretty much when I stopped looking at things about NMS. I knew then it must be awesome. Do you really think 90% of what they sold as the game after the E3 Debut's and Colbert interview is in the game?

In the words of Sean Murray,

Ha. All those defenders at the start of the thread / first 100 pages.

I was amongst them. Then I started listening to and reading the old interviews and remembered what I had been so psyched about. It's fun, but it's nowhere close to what I was thinking about for three years.

I'm ignoring the game until they address the crashes and some of the basic inventory bullshit like missing blueprints and unchargeable photon cannons.

That's really interesting - an important point is, though, how long after the game's release did he post this? Edit: I just checked. It was like a month later. Just over three weeks.

One of the most ridiculous things about this thread is about how people want these answers utterly immediately. Like within days, when the team's to-do list is probably already several hundred items long for each person.

I'm not defending what they've been disingenuous about - but it's been four/one day/s since launch.

Solutions take time, answers don't. People just want to know if it is possible to meet people face to face in the game in any way or if it is a delayed feature. That takes no time at all to answer. Even saying "We're working on it" is something.

I understand why you think that, and that's fine. I had considered myself earlier on. But some of those times... I know when I've made a legitimate mistake, and I own it, as in what you quoted there. On the other hand, there have definitely been people deliberately antagonizing me. That's fucked up, don't you think?

There were also like five different people all talking to me about five different things and new people jumping in on conversations, ignoring context, etc. That's, you know, whatever. Fast threads are like that sometimes.

Most legitimate disagreements were not based in miscommunications. They were people straight disagreeing. And that's fine! That's great, in fact. Those are the people I like to engage with in cases like this, to learn why.

But I will not accept blame for people trolling me. I just won't!

I hate meta arguments haha so if you really want to continue this and think I'm in the wrong, I will gladly engage through pms.

...

Seriously I hate meta arguments so I won't respond anymore in this thread about this unless I deem it relevant. I already feel bad enough derailing this much...

Russ, the point isn't that Ulthred or others need to provide concrete proof that let's be honest, you know isn't possible to get unless they were part of the dev team, only that Sean vastly exaggerated how the algorithm in his game works for the sake of hype.
While simultaneously not providing himself ironically.
So when Sean implies that they did the following:

They did not invent their own rules of physics governing their system and instead simulated that with very advanced set of new equations and fictional periodic elements with different diffraction values.

Seven months before release while most definitely knowing what's possible and isn't possible on consoles especially when it pertains to lighting data. People absoltuely have a right to completely call him out on that just like in the past when they called out Peter Molyneux, who at the very least, apologized for exaggerating. Another point is that there's no indication whatsoever in the game footage pre-release that indicates that there was a build that included the version of the algorithm Sean Murray was talking about in this quote.

So the game doesn't have multiplayer (as of now) and he under promised. But why is he ignoring the backlash? His tweets seems to target the casual crowd who don't know any better. He must be aware of all the Reddit and NeoGAF threads by now.

Edit:
Seriously, look at his tweets. I bet those aren't even the 3 most reported glitches/issues/bugs.

Oh man, made a mistake?

Dude way over promised and used the power of marketing and under delivered on those things. I think as gaming fans that's not really in our best interests.

Have you read the interview in the Atlantic? His answers were hyperbole to the max, basically generating every atom in the universe and the whole butterfly effect thing. Going back to read it, the game is really far from that interview.

In any other industry, retail, industrial, consulting, if you promise something you should deliver otherwise you're a fraud.

By the way I'm not saying don't have fun with the game, but the things he described before release don't seem to be in the game or basically irrelevant and it's not just the multiplayer.

It would be one thing to keep quiet on the multiplayer issue completely. But it's like he was trying to answer it but not say no.

There was another quote of him saying he wanted green skies so he had to change the periodic table. Like really?

Molyenux talked crazier shit the reinventing the periodic table to change the colour of the sky? On the contrary it's YOU who has no idea about the insane shit the developer claimed was under the hood in no mans sky. Either that or your just thumping your chest like the rest of this games frankly scary fan base. Also, if you're straight going to call bullshit on my post it would be nice of you to provide at least one example to back your post up. Seriously, the developer of this game claimed all the planets and moons would have rotations, no sky boxes but instead simulate actual refraction of light to create atmosphere and colour that every other game has 'fake' physics etc. Let's have an example please, or its you who's full of shit.

Ha, nailed it... in a way

To be fair, in a lot of games, the character model you see in first person isn't the same one that's visible to other players. In other words, just because you don't see an arm, doesn't inherently mean another player couldn't hypothetically see your body. There are a number of indicators pointing to the very likely possibility that online multiplayer wasn't included in NMS, but I wouldn't necessarily look at that as one of them.

Edit: If there's no character model in the game's files at all, then that's a different story.

Lol molyneux promised things with black and white reguarding Ai that still aren't done in video games to this day ... and that was how many years ago ?

Are you guys even aware of the list of lies molyneux has spoken at face value to everyone ? This is a very very long list of crazy shit

Quick question. I've seen in videos that it's been said the people who went to the same place couldn't see each other, but could see each other's changes. Is that true?

One stream I saw of two people at the same place, had one of them not connected to the server, so that can't really count.
