Deus Ex: Mankind Divided PC performance thread

TAA does a decent job, wouldn't bother with MSAA. Loading times a very quick on SSD. Glad I bought one

There's that one guy on your side who loves the f word. Forgot his name, still doing the "tutorial" mission.

Yeah I'm amazed how late to the party I have been with ssd transition; only getting one for this build a 3 months back. Loading times for this are less than 5 sec. Only problem now is I want more ssds/space

980ti. Crashing in first mission. When it asks me to enter tutorial mode, it will crash immediately, or shortly after starting tutorial. Really annoying.

I'm on a HDD (!) and have ~20 second load times (on loading a new hub area, <5 seconds when loading a save file which is a lot more common).

Might have something to do with RAM (I'm on 32 GB).

Ain't that the truth! I've actually been in media blackout considering the game and from what little I've seen, I thought it didn't look that mighty impressive. After a quick fiddle with the settings I'm closer to staying above 50 now on the outside of the first area. We'll see how it goes!

Is anyone else having problems with loading saves that were made when locked in cover? The confirmation button for loading is the same as the button for vaulting/moving out of cover, which leads to obvious issues if you are reloading a lot. Super annoying design flaw that should have been detected before release imo.

Is it possible to fix?

Weirdly in the streets of Praha, there are some building shadows that sometimes work for me, and from certain other angles not. Also the with level of detail at very high, those puddles on the ground have some serious draw distance issues... I don't know if the game is bugged or are those game ready drivers acting up. :\

I ran into this. Confirmation triggers on button press, leaving cover triggers on release, so a simple workaround for me was not releasing the button.

Yeah I came up with the same workaround. IMO, they should just make the confirmation press upon load "any button" rather than "space".

Speaking of bugs and glitches, did anyone else notice the game switching rapidly between default and user defined FOV while looting corpses, stashes and accessing control panels or computers?

So I finally get a chance to run it and I am relieved as some of the feedback about performances was worrying me.

At 1440p and Ultra settings (Harden Shadows and MSAA off), the game is running at 60fs, with some headroom, in the starting area.
The benchmark was more demanding it seems (47 fps average).
This is on a 980ti / 4790k.

So far RAS, loading timpe are fast, IQ is very good, and the sea beautiful.

Rolled back the driver, shadows still act crazy...

Tried from all low to ultra...

But at least setting Parallax Occlusion Mapping to High instead ON, fixed those draw distance issues.

Using exclusive fullscreen got me past the train station part and now I'm actually playing the game -- wow, what a great looking game! Prague has such a nice dreary atmosphere, it reminds me a bit of STALKER, which I love. The game seems to be running smooth enough with everything set to High or On at 1440p. G-sync is getting the job done and this isn't a twitch shooter, so I'm fine with it not being 60-120fps.

My only real issues are the mouse acceleration, which just feels terrible, and that the Steam overlay doesn't seem to work. I'm sure those will get patched soon though.

Is there a way to make the sharpening filter less aggressive?

is DX12 only enabled on AMD cards? It's greyed out for me.

It's not available for AMD and Nvidia. Some preview builds had it enabled and perfromance was terrible (for all gpus). They will bring it back it with a patch, sometime.

Is this one of the first games to recommend 16 GB of RAM? What is it even being used for? It seems like a lot of people get pretty solid performance with just 8.

So is something fucked on my end or is TAA the worst thing I have ever seen in an AA solution? In stills it looks perfectly fine, but man... it blurs all the motion into a complete mess here, especially noticable during dialogues where character's faces do that interpolated blur you tend to get on TVs running at "200Hz+" to the point where faces almost melt together with the background at times. Am I the only one noticing this or is there some rare bug going on?

The game looks absolutely atrociously jaggy with it off so I've resorted to playing on more or less low settings at 4K just to get a decent image without the blurring. Had to turn AO off completely though since it was shimmering like crazy regardless of resolution when TAA is turned off. Also the AO just looks like garbage in this game in general - lots of haloing artifacts around objects everywhere. Any way to force different kinds?

I honestly don't mind the performance considering how much is happening graphics-wise in this game, but right now I can't even make it look halfway decent on a playable framerate.

Still reading the thread, so not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but it's not in the OP.

Ticking the "Exclusive Fullscreen" box on the launcher options menu consistently adds a few fps in the benchmark. My minimum/maximum/average fps went from 34/54/44 with it unchecked to 38/56/46 with it checked (with custom settings).

how does this keep happening

I swear people are forgetting how PC gaming works. How no one noticed is beyond me.
That and all the comments about "MSAA is tanking my performance when I set it up above 4X" is making me pretty sad.
That or I start entering the fossil era.

MSAA used to be the norm, everyone know the penalty incurred with it. Did everyone forget? Were they numbed by all the Post-Processing AA?

TAA is a blurry mess but it works well. Same thing with Fallout unfortunately.
The Sharpen filter is a good idea to bring some of the sharpness back, but the Sharpen filter here is EXTREMELY aggressive. They need to tone it down a notch.

Yes but does it solve the motion clarity issue I'm having? Again - it's fine for stills. Also, any way to force SMAA instead perhaps?

Got through the first mission, and it played really well. Im using the gerforce experience's recommended settings. I also turned tessellation off, and I bumped anti-aliasing down a little bit (I might bump it back up again)

Based Nixxes, lol
They always fucked up Deus Ex games (but always fix them after all)

Fingers crossed!

Yeah the MSAA thing is weird; it's always been extremely expensive, especially in modern games, and 8xMSAA is crazy high. I almost always turn MSAA off for this exact reason.

I always steer clear of MSAA whenever I see it. The only game I remember playing with MSAA in recent years was Assassin's Creed Syndicate which runs well enough even at 4x, surprisingly. It cleans the IQ real nice too. But that's pretty much the only one.

I have:

Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @3.40GHz (4 CPU's)
16gig RAM
Nvidi GeForce GTX 670

How would this run at 1080p? Would it look/run better then the PS4 version?

Well this is awkward. When game freezes / crashes it takes my whole PC with it and forces whole system reboot. I wonder what is causing it. Annoying issue as otherwise game does run fine with 60FPS locked, even loading times aren't bloated like for some they seem to be.

Seems to be different for everyone, but for anyone crashing in the annoying Prague station walkthrough section:

1) Turn everything to very minimum
2) Untick DLC on Steam

I did both of these at once last night and got past it after nothing else worked (window mode, subtitles, etc).

Also damn Nixxes should really have left MSAA off in all the presets, the amount of people that don't understand the performance hit it has is crazy.

Everything ultra and most things on including contact shadows and tesselation and I get a steady 60fps.

I need help, I got these specs, what do you think I can play the game on?

GTX 1080 Strix OC ( I have so far never played any game with either gaming boost or OC boost)
32 GB RAM
5820k 3,9 GHz OC
1080p 60hz monitor

i5-6600k @ 4.2ghz
GTX 1070 SC
16 gb DDR4 3000 mhz
SSD

I'm at 1080p, enabled the Ultra preset but turned off CHS. I get locked 60fps for the most part.

Few issues though. The frame pacing is off, its showing perfect 16.6 ms in rivatuner but I can visually see and feel slight stuttering or pacing issues. Not too bad.

The sharpening is super strong, but the game looks awful with it completely off. Would have liked a lower sharpening option rather than a toggle.

Mouse acceleration is horrendous, so I'm not playing with mouse&kb until they remove it. Using an xbone controller.

Also on controls, they seem really convoluted. Debating going back to the Human Rev control scheme. Pressing Y to sprint is really strange, along with other oddities.

You can play it @ 1080p 60 with everything cranked up except for MSAA. Maybe even that though could be @ 2XMSAA for you.

Nixxes needs to channel id and implement a sharpening slider. TXAA needs some sharpening, but the default setup is just way too much.

Also...I hate to say it, but they probably should have hid the majority of the more demanding options in an ini or do launch option stuff. People are just too stupid to be able to handle graphical settings anymore.

Yeah it would be nice to have a slider or an .ini value to tweak instead of the default (off) and (really fucking too much).

Yeah, people have proven to be overly stupid about this this time around. I am a bit embarassed honestly :/

I usually disagree with the idea of hiding options as it should be the users responsibility to come to terms with their machine's performance on a good level, but this time people have proven that they have no idea what certain things entail regarding performance. It being left to off with a massive warning next to it (similar to how the texture resolution or screen resolution option in-game spit out ,massive warnings on tweaking) would have probably been the best idea.

This still does not save me from my embarassment about this all though. I find the port performance-wise to be quite justified in a lot of ways. Sure the CHS probably needs some tweaking to fix that distance problem, the mouse accelleration needs to be tweakable, and the sharpening needs a slider... but all in all I am finding it to be so much better than the last game technically.

Has anyone found out what the tessellation option does yet? I have yet to investigate.
Looks like my 970 and 8 gigs are ram are going to get destroyed.

Nah.
