It honestly seems like because 2d platforms are easier to make they are just spinning their lesser franchises of into them so they have something to put out. It feels more lazy than a creative new direction.

Which makes it even worse that a 2D Metroid has been ignored for so long....it is what so many people have been asking for.

They spent all that time building up the 2017 games only for it to be nothing. At least Ever Oasis still looks good.

Probably getting Ever Oasis. Looked like a cool mix n mash between Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, RPG dungeons and Pokemon.

Glad to see Ace Attorney as always.

Loved seeing Reggie, and Bill showing off his psycho power. Shame that 3DS looks like crusted shit.

Where was my surprise Mother 3 announcement from which I knew it wouldn't happen but hoped it would happen regardless? :(

I think you could say that about every direct, and you can replace Mother 3 with lots of other things.

Once you take expectations off the table with Nintendo, things get much nicer.

It was honestly was way better than I thought it would be. I am actually surprised at the number of games that were shown. Of course, I would have loved a surprise Mother 3 release. Maybe someday....

Can someone who watched the EU direct confirm whether or not they showed Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy? I skimmed through and couldn't see it but I thought maybe they shoved it in a sizzle reel or something.

As someone without a Wii U this was a great Direct IMO. The console is in its twilight years, Im impressed it's supported at all. Pikmin and Mario Maker are very exciting.

I thought that Direct was pretty solid since my expectations were tempered going into it. Poochie amiibo is awesome as fuck, and Pikmin 3DS looks pretty cool.

Japan has some train board game. I think I know this series, but I'm not sure. I swear I've seen it on Gamecenter CX before and it's been a thing since Famicom?

All I want to say is that I hope that's not the Pikmin game Miyamoto was talking about. FFS.

Also, making 2 of the same games for 3ds and Wii U? They better find better inspiration for NX, otherwise the advantage of one platform is for nothing.

What? Why?

General wisdom was that Nintendo was holding back on new releases to save them for NX launch titles, but they just announced new 3DS games for 2017 so now you have to wonder what the fuck they're preparing for launch now...

(To be fair, Nintendo DOES have a history of keeping their handhelds alive for irrationally long periods of time after their successors launch.)

Two ports, one half port mini-game collection, one 2D asset experiment. What happened to quality control at Nintendo?

I thought the Direct was bizarrely decent. Whether you liked the guy who is the President of the Nintendo Treehouse who has the biggest smile on his face or not, some of his lines are just bizzarely corny like "Overruled!" or "Look at Sonic go!" Oh, and the 3DS port of Dragon Quest VIII delayed to 2017 was a bit disappointing to me.

They didn't announce anything regarding IE GO Galaxy. I was also looking forward to it. Seems like it died so Yokai Watch could live.

I'm honestly surprised people are disappointed. Two weeks ago I would have bet 3DS would be just as dead as the Wii U post-2016. Considering NX is covering both home and portable bases, I figured 3DS was done, so any amount of support is welcome.

I really feel like some people let their expectations go to unrealistic places with these things.

They've been on Famicom, Super Famicom, Gameboy, and PS1 and 2. They are incredibly fun.

I was ok with it. At least I know there will be games to play like DQ7, Mario Maker and that Mario Sports game. The it's really time for the NX guys, these games are gonna be weird placeholders until then.

Also was gonna pull the trigger on Yoshi's Wooly world this weekend since its dropped to $30, but I might just wait.

All in all, better then I thought it would be. Was definitely holding on for some more possible localizations. Was very interesting to see the multiple ports. I'm in for cute yarn yoshi!

None of the games were appealing to me but at least the 3ds isn't dead yet and the zelda amibbo looked great. Hero of time amiibo was the highlight of the show.
