PS4 Pro: The Ultimate FAQ

Q: What if I already own a standard PS4? Is there an easy way to transfer my games, saved data, and Share captured content from a standard PS4 to PS4 Pro?

Yes. You will be able to copy your games, saved data, captured videos and screenshots, system settings, and other content from a standard PS4 to PS4 Pro using a standard Ethernet cable. This process will also work from standard PS4 to standard PS4, PS4 Pro to standard PS4, and PS4 Pro to PS4 Pro provided that both units have system software update 4.00 or higher installed, and the same PSN account is signed into both systems.

Alternatively, you can log-into PSN with your PS4 Pro, access your games and content library, and re-download your previously purchased games and content. Of course, your saved data in online storage will transfer as well.

So no easy HDD-swap. Damn!

Should pin this thread. Just about every question has been answered related to the system, and it's what I thought it would be. If you are looking to buy a PS4 for the first time, and if you have the money available, go for a PS4 Pro. Developers might be looking into making use of the more powerful GPU. I'm sure the first party definitely will.

Yep, definitely waiting to see how devs support the Pro on 1080p displays. TR isn't really a good example because they did loads with TR DE on next gen too and they have a lot of ass kissing to do with PS4 owners.

Will future games also require extra downloads to add the Pro benefits, or will the console know everything from the disc?

Me too. I want performance over pixels.

Also, no mention of SATA3. This doesn't bode well.

I sit far from my TV so it is good to know that i will get benefits from this if I stick with my current 1080p 50' 3DTV.

I will not buy a 4K TV unless I get something 60' or above. Otherwise there is no point for me.

And even then, I will likely keep my PS4Pro in 1080p mode so that I get the visual upgrades that I would lose in 4K mode.

RIP Dolby Vision. Guess HDR wins this war!

Tru dat. I knew about the HDR wars when I bought my Sony set. Luckily it supports HDR10

The more devices out there that support a format will win the format war. That's what happened with HD-DVD and BluRay. PS3 comes out with a BluRay disc and that's the end of that.

My question is this: will developers of games released after the end of September be required to support PS4 Pro features, like the leaked Neo documents stated, or is this not a requirement and games could be released that are exactly the same on regular and pro; resolution, framerate, and all.

That's annoying, I have a 2TB HD in my PS4 already. I'll have to swap over and then back up and replace again. Fairly time consuming.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around this very thing, as I'm in the same boat and I have more than 1TB on my drive already, so I can't even do a direct swap to start with. What would that process even look like?

I have a couple of questions not covered:

Q: As an original PS4 owner, will the update process only download data for the version of the game I play so as not to use additional space on my HDD/bandwidth?

Q: As an original PS4 owner, when I install a game that is PS4P "enhanced" will the installation process ignore PS4P elements (if any exist) in order to not use additional space on my HDD?

With retail and oft updated F2P games becoming so large and only a 500GB HDD, every byte matters to me!

Yeah, that didn't really click until after I typed it. Would I have to buy another 2TB hard drive?

Following PS4 Pro’s launch on November 10 in North America, virtually all new PS4 game releases moving forward will be able to take advantage of PS4 Pro capabilities on day one, or in some cases shortly after launch via a downloadable update.

"Virtually all new ps4 releases" would indicate it would be very rare for a game to release after November and not support Pro enhancements in some form.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Additionally, PS4 games that render below native 1080p (maximum quality for HD TVs) on the standard PS4 can be elevated to render at full native 1080p on an HDTV.

That sounds like great news for games like the DICE games or generally games which rely on dynamic resolution.

I guess that means if its a game that doesn't support pro features but is being run on a 4K TV, eg Battlefront, it goes something like this:

OG PS4 + 1080p TV = 900p resolution
PS4 Pro + 1080p TV = 1080p native
PS4 Pro + 4k TV = 1080p native but upscaled to a 4K resolution

is that about right ?

Also .. can't wait to see if CDPR does anything for Witcher 3 or just in general any improvements Witcher 3 might have running on a Pro .. and what it means for Cyberpunk 2077 going forward.

Uh...games that are sub 1080 now run at full 1080p on pro, even those that are not patched? News to me, but i'll take it!

Any chance that even if a developer DOES NOT patch anything on an old game, it will perform better simply because of the better GPU and overclocked CPU? Fallout 4 looking at you....

So no easy HDD-swap. Damn!

I think what I would do if I am getting the Pro is, remove the 1TB from the Pro, using an existing enclosure to put it in, format it to FAT since that is what plays well on the PS4. Backup standard PS4 to this new 1TB, take HDD from standard install into Pro and restore. Unless someone knows of an easier solution of easily porting over my 2TB drive, this is the way to go.

(also will be uninstalling useless game installs, like disks I own, just to make the backup small enough to fit)

I assume virtually all means games that are out in one region but not another right now won't need to support pro when they are released in another region.

So probably no pro support for Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Dragon Quest Builders, etc. Which is a bit of a bummer because those are some of my most hyped games right now!
