Did Paragon show the most dramatic PS4 vs. PS4 Pro graphical difference?

Paragon was the one where I immediately noticed a difference because it actually showed one. Without seeing the versions side by side it's tough to immediately tell.

I'm interested, in that I have a 4K display (I don't think it has HDR, though).

But, honestly? With no UHD Blu-ray support, I'll probably hold off. I won't be an early adopter, that's for sure.

My chances of picking up Scorpio just got a bit better, to be frank, even though my PS4 library is much larger.

EDIT: To answer the first question, I thought Horizon looked amazing.

Then why does the second screen look so much better?

It's almost as if the first one is made ugly on purpose.

I think the same. Ground folliage and the rocks from the right and part of its folliage looks like something for PS3.

Yes, for PS4 standard, the first screen does not look that great. But the second screen, isn't like some uber good looking thing either, it's achieving approximately the quality that AAA full priced games are able to on a standard PS4, and that's using the power of a PS4 Pro.

The extra power of the Pro basically made it easier for them to put better quality textures, more foliage etc to make it look decent/good to reach a level that other AAA full priced games have on a regular PS4

Or there's a thing called budget and time.

So PS4 Pro purpose is to made easier and cheaper reach visuals standards that can indeed beeen achieved with the current model, but with less development costs and time?

It can impact some developers and games in this way, yes. It's not the purpose of it, but a side effect. Of course, it is in the developers best interests to have the best standard ps4 version possible. This game continues to be developed, and the differences between the ps4 version and the Pro may shrink once more and more optimizations are done on the standard ps4 version (but then it's also possible more optimization is done for the Pro mode as well along the way).

Is something that can be understood, specially nowadays with mayor game creation being as expensive as film industry, or even beyond. But development budget and time should be something that has to affect the final user, specially when we talk about companies that invest million of dollars in I+D. When people bought OG PS4 and OG Xbox One were expecting titles with the average visuals that actually has been reached for just less than 20 top games (Uncharted 4, The Order, Driveclub, Ratchet, etc). We have received a ton of last gen ports and remaster instead, and now they are offering us a newer system to buy if we want to enjoy proper "next gen" quality visuals in all games (this talking ONLY about full HD), and not just in triple A games.

They were wise enough to do a before and after. So silly to show years old stuff like Shadow of Mordor without any comparison. I played it for the first time with a friend this Summer and I still couldn't tell the difference.

Yeah i completely missed this bit. it's literally a five second comparison in a one hour conference. It's bizarre that they didnt focus on this given the low rate of 4k adoption among PS4 owners.

They should have instead shown Uncharted 4 comparisons with extra foliage and lighting. Or heck, something that came close to their original render of Uncharted 4.

Just a bizarre conference.

I swear I have good eyesight but I just don't have an eye for graphics. It took some time going back and forth between pictures before I noticed the difference. It looks a lot better but when I'm running around in-game I'm honestly not sure I'd notice (maybe care is a better word). Maybe you just have to see it in person.

I desperately want some official side by side comparisons of 1080p versions of games.

Ps4 vs PS4 Pro.

I want to know how improved games are going to look if I decide to settle at regular HD.

I'm waiting for Ps4 vs Xbox One vs Xbox One Slim vs NX vs NX with dock vs Pc 1080 vs Ps4 Pro 1080 vs Ps4 Pro 4K vs Xbox One Scorpio vs PC 4K

What a time to be alive.

Then immagine crossgen games with PS5 and Xbox Two...

And yet they have to make a BF1 beta comparison lol

Looks really good on PS4 Pro and it's the biggest mistake from this conference, not enough comparaison between OG PS4 and PS4 Pro, don't know what they were thinking but whatever...

This.

but

I imagine it's not a great idea to show off how "bad" your new slim console will look in comparison to the more expensive model. It's important to remember unlike generation changes, these machines will literally be next to each other on a shelf.

OR...how small is the so called "improvement", but a fewer exceptions.

It's hard to so off differences in a stream in the first place. And they could not have just not streamed it. That would piss off more people.

I don't recall the pc version having grass like that.

I think epic games' approach to neo is the one that is in line with my preferences the most. Full eye candy at 1080p.

so wait... this is adding things like more grass, higher polycount, better textures... all because its being upscaled?

I dont understand whats going on...
Not quite sure if you're being sarcastic but it's not like the 4K upscaling thing is the only new part of of the PS4P. The hardware is a lot stronger too, allowing for greater detail or performance.

They're changing the rendering settings instead of just rendering at a higher resolution.

When you play neo on a 1080p display, devs can use the extra power for stuff to make the games look nicer in other ways.

Borderline. I'm satisfied in the sense that this is about the bump I expected and I won't be rushing out to upgrade my ps4.

terrible example and shame on you OP

There are a lot of better looking ps4 games than the neo example of this one. The Order is one of those games that would have been interesting to see the sequel take full advantage of the extra power since it is still one if not the best looking games out.

Would be cool if that one got a nice boost. I guess it will finally get surpassed in the next few years with the new hardware but it still looks quite nice

Basically a saying their base game doesn't look good enough to care what they added to the pro version and the ps4 version seems to look a bit more rough than man other ps4 games. So, I wouldn't pay much attention to it's difference upon itself too much.

sorry yeah semi-sarcastic. and i do understand the hardware is stronger... i was more confused with the comparison being JUST showing 1080p vs 4k or if this was an instance of: Dev setting more visual options. I wasnt entirely sure what we were seeing since i wasnt entirely sure what the dev was doing.

So is this a game that will actually be graphically better on Pro (and not just higher resolution?) denser foliage, higher res textures, increased terrain detail/poly, additional lighting and shading effects?

When you play neo on a 1080p display, devs can use the extra power for stuff to make the games look nicer in other ways.

okay yeah thats what i wanted to know.

So its confirmed that all devs dont need to make the game 4k, and just use the extra power to make it look better? like instead of mandatory 4k, they just make it 1080p 60fps and a bunch of extra effects?

OG PS4 version can't even show the character model, so the hardware difference will also impact gameplay. I'm in.

Most dramatic for people with 1080p screens?

Yes.

However, 4K vs 1080p at home on an actual 4K screen is much more transformitive.

So, during the PS4 Pro conference, I felt like there was only really one game that I saw an obvious difference with, and that was Paragon.

This might be because of how they chose to do the comparison, but I wanted to discuss what people thought of the visual upgrades on display here.

Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with these upgrades? Do they make you more or less likely to want a PS4 Pro assuming you see similar differences in other games?

You should listen to the digital foundry impressions.

It sounds like what we saw and what the people at the meeting were two different things.

Ffxv and bf1 are gonna be the big tests for me, if I can get a version on pro that looks closer to what thr 2013/14 trailers looked like that will make me happy

How are you guys saying you noticed a difference in games like Horizon, For Honor etc., the stream was 1080p non-HDR. You can't tell the difference by simple virtue of that.
