Alpha Investments is the only MTG Youtube channel you need. Your only source for hoarding hundreds of boxes of Ice Age, and how many dozens of cases of Kaladesh you should preorder.

Anytime I see that someone is banned, I just automatically assume it's for whatever post I'm reading of theirs at the moment, even when that's obviously not the case.

A lot of the PT grinders want GPs minimized as much as possible because they don't want to have to travel to them.

(and yeah, because they can't rely on things like a deckbuilding team)
Apparently the mods don't like the idea of relying on deckbuilding teams!
When you're casting Epiphany for 7 it doesn't matter what pile you get. Also it cycles at x=1 on turn 2 which is a mode that Rev didn't have. Between Epiphany and the new Wrath you have both the card draw and the lifegain
Huh? No it doesn't. At X=1 you're basically paying 1U to to put the top card of your library into your graveyard, at least outside of cases where your opponent would prefer the revealed card going to your hand instead of the graveyard. Epiphany doesn't replace itself until X=2 and won't be sure of card advantage until X=4. Sure, at high cast values it can work because you reveal enough stuff that both piles are good but even that you can often be better off with one of the very expensive Blue "draw a bunch of cards" spells.

This is the Elixir variant I was talking about:

perpetualtimepiece.jpg

If your win con is something like Bruna and Gisela than you can make use of both sides of the Timepiece and Epiphany which alleviates a lot of the downsides.
If you are succesfully casting Epiphany for 7 and aren't dead you'd probably win just as good playing Dragonlord's Prerogative and that card sees no play now.

There's also the issue that both Planar Outburst and Fumigate don't get past Avacyn or Selfless Spirit the way Languish does.

I was looking for a decent MTG youtube channel and I came across

DesolatorMagic

This is a TERRIBLE channel. It sounds like Athur Gies had an unholy child with a conspiracy theorist and that child was really into MTG. He's not completely unintelligent, but I just can't get on his side with just about any of his problems, and he's always acting like he asks the 'important questions'.

Does anyone have a decent channel that discuss the state of the game, strategy, card reviews etc.

I've seen a few of DesolatorMagic stuff and he seem to hate the game more then anything. Complains a ton and not exactly helpful.

Ephiphany is X + 1 card so x being 1 will cycle, but you get the worse card out of the 2 revealed.

Which still doesn't make it a good card.

Ah right. Whoops, my bad. I remembered the general function of the card but not that specific part. But yes, it still means cycling for the worst of the two cards. And it still means not getting card advantage until you pay for Fact or Fiction.

His video against NetDecking reminds me of some of the discussion that put me off of MTG years ago. To me, trying out net-decks can teach you a lot about why certain cards are better than others, and is just part of the game, but honestly I play too casually to really care strongly one way or another.

Kirbs you forgot the first rule of GAF: don't talk in politic threads

I posted in one once and got 6 months , sad part is like 50 people got banned from the same thread becauase the mod didnt agree with discussion.

I stay in Magic, Football, and Videogame posts only now

I've been banned several times, but never for more than like 6 weeks.

You guys must be saying some questionable stuff.

I went to a team GP in DC. My friends and I just happened to be sitting around LSV randomly throughout the day. LSV couldn't hold an uninterrupted conversation with his buddies for longer than 2 minutes without someone wanting to say hi and thank him. He was an absolute charmer. Gave everyone ample time to talk and had small talk. Some weirdos even brought up stuff about his wife and he just took it in stride.

I thought he was pretty amazing considering he was getting constantly bombarded with "I listened to limited resources to get ready for this, haha". So I can't imagine he'd be rude to anyone, since he was a real class act.

Fumigate is the white control deck's real deal. That card is superb.

And you have a sweet ass Box ended start and finish to the deck too:

That one drop enchantment which gains you life and taps down creatures

And Fumigate

So if shit gets out of hand you can just wipe everything and start over

I expect any deck running one to run the other.

We might even have a Ayli + Felidar Sovereign situation on our hands. I would LOVE to build that deck.

I do wonder if for competitive events people will start keeping track of energy on paper in the same way you keep track of life totals. And if the rules for energy are such that you have to clearly announce how much you have whenever it changes.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Other than the remaining two swords, anyone have any guesses what the Aether Revolt inventions are gonna be? Definitely a heavy focus on commander cards.

Full spoiler is tomorrow, right?

Also, I submitted my cube to the contest last night and the theme is 100% modular cards. Wacky decision making every game. Everything has morph or cycling or like 4 choices. It was hard finding enough aggro cards.

It's mostly just vanilla 1/3s if its like every other spoiler.

The real good part is the beta usually goes up so I can start playing Constructed off the set on MTGO.

What a joke. First the Monarch card, now this. I guess you could say the printers are making a... token effort.

As a matter of practicality, I imagine most players would write it down. I think it'll work like announcing when you're using floating mana versus tapping land for it. There will probably be an answer on the Judge blog or the Kaladesh release notes within the next week.

There's so much incidental lifegain available to control decks right now that you might be able to just play one Aetherflux Reservoir as your only win con.

The new Wrath, Dovin Baan's minus ability, Inventor's Fair paired with stuff like Perpetual Timepiece and Dynavolt Tower.

Prophetic Prism and Glint-Nest Crane are pretty good curves into the new bounce Cancel, too.

What happened to Kirblar?

And I also think many people who are in a position seemingly above you come off as douchey the first time you meet them. It's subsequent actions that shows your actual nature, and I think LSV is certainly better in that regard than the other pros.

I'd like some better art Engineered Explosives, the MM one is so dull and I still don't know what's going on in the Fifth Dawn one. Also, why is it still $50? I thought that spike was temporarily.

Arcbound Ravager, Batterskull, Grafdigger's Cage, and Nevinyrral's Disk all fail the "flavored on Kaladesh" test.
But they don't really; Rings of Brighthearth is in the first batch despite Brighthearth being an actual location/tribe name on Lorwyn. There's no reason a robot can't be modular on Kaladesh any more than Moxen can appear on all sorts of planes, or anything that makes Living Weapons specifically something that could only occur on New Phyrexia. Nevinyrral isn't even an actual person in Magic.

I mean, I could see the argument with regards to Umezawa's Jitte, but those don't appear that questionable to me. I'm not really sure what a "Grafdigger" is, though. I guess something to do with zombies which I guess maybe disqualifies it since there's no zombies so why would anyone invent an anti-zombie device.

EE is pretty much in every sideboard these days.

Can fit in any deck and all the aggro decks hate them.

Living Weapons make Germ tokens which are explicitly a Phyrexia-only thing. Nevinyrral is indeed a character, there's a whole story about him in one of the old books that's a short story anthology. "Graf" is a weird Innistrad linguistic tic for "grave" that doesn't exist anywhere else, and like you mention it's an anti-zombie device so doesn't really fit.

I was excluding Arcbound since it's, like, a specific type of creature on Mirrodin, but that one you could maybe sneak under the bar the same way as Rings of Brighthearth, yeah.

I don't think Germs have a particular specificity to Mirrodin that would make all that much of a big deal. They're little black 0/0s.

They signify corruption of artifacts though, but Kaladesh is supposed to be free from that. It's a lovely, everything is perfectly built, world.

It's not specific to Mirrodin, it's specific to Phyrexia. A "Germ" in MTG is a little vat monster Phyrexians grow to drive shit around. We can do that one when we come back to the Phyrexian Invasion Kaladesh block.

Yeah but MishraRashmi invented an extraplanar portal!

I think Thopter Foundry seems like an obvious choice.

Need Sword of the Meek also

Aetherflux Reservoir got some early cries for bans. 50 seems a bit low considering you start at 40 in EDH and gaining life can be quite easy.
I also don't think storm needs more toys in EDH but I doubt it will have that big an impact.

Have you read Mike Sigrist Eric Froehlich article couple months ago?

Took the words right out of my mouth. That Froehlich shit taught me that these guys are just the same as the FNM bullies that everyone has to deal with. You ever seen like 5 guys over the age of 17 laying into one 14 year old there by himself that he must draw in the finals. Putting tons of pressure on them and shit. Its not fucking cool at all.
