KH3D's initial JP release was woefully glitchy. Like, enemies becoming invulnerable for no reason and Sora and Riku flying straight through walls glitchy. The US/EU release still had it's issues, but it doesn't compare to pre-patch JP 3D at all.

There were also game breaking bugs. But that's what happens when you rush a product, I suppose.
Oh. It only just occurred to me that the glimpse of the new BBS episode could just be a cutscene graphic and not indicative of what actual gameplay will look like. Like, how every KH ever starts with an elaborate FMV but instead of using Visual Works CG they're making it in Unreal Engine 4 and slapping it on as an FMV intro. And the playable part of the game will be the remastered BBS assets we're already familiar with.

edit: if anything the assets used in the prologue will be recycled in KH3.... if it isn't parts recycled from KH3 itself.
Why would they go to the trouble of doing that when they're already making an Unreal Engine 4 game that will likely need those assets anyway? Especially considering the gameplay for KH3 is far along and they simply need to create bosses for this game. Which, btw they have as indicated by the leaks last week from the former game designer that worked on this.
I feel like their going to charge $60 because their including the movie and Aqua episode thing with what was originally a $40 game.
It's funny too because I sold Dream Drop Distance and hated myself for it, now with this announcement I'm loving myself for making an amazing decision. It would had been very hard to buy this if I didn't do that. <3
We will get FF XII 2.9 where the FF XIII universe starts encroaching on Ivalice.
They might just decide that DDD's soundtrack was high quality enough and doesn't need to be remastered, like BBS HD.
They actually haven't mentioned anything about an orchestrated soundtrack, have they?

Guess I shouldn't be suprised it's at fullprice, gonna seem silly when the next-gen tax comes in full force here like FFX HD on PS4 and it ends up being $100 while the PS3 collections end up being around $60 (before folks get confused talking about AUD here)

I've seen a bunch of folks intent on not playing 'these terrible spin-offs' and avoiding everything altogether after after 2 saying they'll just dive into 3, so I think some folks really don't care or are silly enough to think after about 5 new installments they wont be lost plotwise.
The way the union bit was handled for 2.8 looked morelike it was rendered in 3D and not from the Chi engine, but Chi fits in more with the pop up book 2D artstyle and feels pretty fitting. I'm really curious as to how they'll show the rest of whatever's in that movie.

Um.. DDD soundtrack was already fully orchestrated, I remember Yoko gloating about that in one of the interviews before the 3DS version released. It was partly the reason why they decided to redo soundtrack for 1.5 and 2.5

1.5? 2.5? Now 2.8? How the hell is that a logical progressive numbering schema?
I'm going to wait it out and hope thats the case. It will be easy for me because $60 for 3DDD HD is just ridiculous. I didn't enjoy that game, I don't enjoy playing as Riku and I absolutely hated the character switching timer.

I did not buy the previous gen collection cause I was waiting for a current gen innevitable release. I still believe its happening, and that strange name ("II.8") really points to a II.9 thing, that may be the whole collection or at least KH1 + KH2.
This collection is pointles for those who are interested in KH3 and never playerd the previous games. The story is already complex, and without the 2 main games there's a giant hole in the plot to get into KH3.
Tbh it makes sense if you follow the series.

Another interpretation, it's more than halfway between 2.5 and 3.
Either way, it's KH, every game needs a dumb name.
I'm seriously dumbfounded at some of these posts. This isn't a hard concept to understand. It's a HD remaster of DDD, a movie that goes over the story of KHX (Chi), and a NEW PLAYABLE story that takes place after BBS FM Secret Ending that is essentially BBS Volume 2. Is 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue a stupid name? Is 358/2 Days a stupid name? Is KH HD 2.5 ReMix a stupid name? It's pretty hard to say yes or no to only one of those choices.
And I'm calling it right now, there's not going to be a 2.9 that contains all the compilations. And if there is it's not going to be called 2.9 and it's going to come out AFTER KH3. Which by the way, is going to come out in 2017 at the EARLIEST. Anyone who thinks it's coming out next year is kidding themselves. 2.8 and FFXV will come out next year and KH 3 will be the year after so that they don't have conflicting releases and so KH fans have something to tide them over until 3.

I'm still going to bank hard on a 2.9 collection because I want it so badly. I also disagree that it's hard to say yes or no to whether something is a stupid name given it's a purely subjective belief. I feel pretty confident in easily stating that these are all stupid names.
That's my point. They're either all stupid names or none of them are. If they're all stupid then why are you complaining now? If none of the other names were stupid, why would you complain about this name?

indeed, other then the story it was a fresh air to the series. it was also very challenging on proud mode (never tried on critical must be very hard). The big explorable stage were better then any other KH(more hidden chest like KH1), just to bad there was no good reason to come back to the world to do side quest (hunt like wasn't really rewarding).
I mean I guess, but it seems pretty arbitrary and unsubstantiated to say it's all or none. There is such a concept as a sliding scale of stupidity.

II.8 actually makes sense. KH I.5 was named like that because was about the story of KH I and a little beyond that (KH COM and KH DS). KH II.5 is the same case, but this time it was about KH II and a little beyond that too (KH Recoded). KH II.8 is for the KH DDD, so it's between KH Recoded and KH III.

I've been seeing posts like this a lot. Sure, it's a little strange, but not really when you look at the absurd titles of lots of JRPGs and VNs.
Hard to follow? It's literally the most straightforward numbering sequence possible besides consecutive integers.

Each of them fills in the pieces of the story up till that respective point in the series, picking up where the previous collection left off.
1.5 tells the story of KH 1 and slightly after, but it never reaches KH2, so it ends at 1.5.
2.5 picks up from where 1.5 left off, telling the story of KH2, but also slightly after with BBS,but never reaching KH3, so it's 2.5.
2.8 picks up where 2.5 left off... once again not reaching the 3 mark, so they had to come up with an awkward number between 2.5 and 3, thus their 2.8 logic.

i'd argue atleast watch the 358 days movie that comes with 1.5 in between RE Chain of memories and 2, its good
