92 on Metacritic right now

Here are some reviews

US Gamer: 10/10
NBA 2K17 addresses most of my biggest issues from last year in cutting out canned animations and going back to basics with MyCareer, and it's still as polished as ever. It's easy to take its excellence for granted, but Visual Concepts' ambition and willingness to take risks keeps it from ever becoming stale. NBA 2K17 is the champion, and it's tough to see it losing that title anytime soon.

Game Informer; 95/100
In the world of sports sims, no other game feels like it’s even on the same level as NBA 2K17. Visual Concepts continues to embrace innovation and add benchmark-setting features for hardcore fans. With unrivaled gameplay, presentation, and game modes, 2K Sports’ latest hoops game is a must-play for all sports fans.

Sports Gamers Online; 95/ 100
In the end the NBA 2K series is the gold standard of basketball simulation. From the gameplay, presentation, and various modes to play, if you’re a basketball fan there is something in this game for you.

IGN; 89/100
NBA 2K17 is another rock-solid game in the franchise. It features worthwhile updates to the dribbling and shooting mechanics, and backs up those improvements off the court in ways that make me care about managing my team.

GodisaGeek - 9/10
NBA 2K17 is light years ahead of EA’s Live series and has every aspect of the game covered. There is no greater basketball experience than this, even with the minor flaws. MyCareer and MyGM are better than last year, and even the MyTeam mode has a few added improvements, such as the focus on dynamic duos giving players a boost when played together. If you love basketball and want a game that gives you a wholly realistic experience, this is the complete package.

Operation Sports; 90/100
Those quibbles aside, NBA 2K17 offers one of the most complete experiences in sports gaming. The gameplay is top notch, you have different and high-quality modes to experience that gameplay in, and the presentation package just screams NBA basketball.

It has become easy to say, but NBA 2K17 is an early favorite for sports game of the year and is a must buy for basketball fans of all types.

Fantastic, this franchise can do no wrong it seems.

Edit: Wait, Spike Lee didn't return for the campaign? Too bad :/

We don't have our review up yet, but from what I've played so far, it's definitely a notch above last year's version. Better UI, better shooting mechanics, better everything.

I don't play MyCareer so can't comment on that. I just want to rain down 3's with Steph and the Warriors while playing against the Cavs. xD

Scores are definitely deserved. Kudos to 2K for not settling. I mean, they can do that since there's no alternative (legitimate one).

For anyone who's played virtua tennis 4,would this scratch my "gotta keep unlocking stuff in an fun arcadey game" itch?

I'm surprised final reviews are available right now considering online is a huge component, is always a clusterfudge, and hasn't been tested by a majority of the public yet.

Reviews sound about right, at one point I use to buy NBA 2K every year but the series started to get stale to me. I played the prelude demo before the game released and thought the gameplay was smooth and easy to play. The demo sold me on picking the game up and I have been hooked ever since. I am currently going hard in my career by not being a wallet warrior and buying vc to upgrade my player but earning it all from scratch and having a blast doing so.

Well deserved scores, the ign review sums up my thoughts really well. The guy that they got to review the game knows his stuff. In particular, shooting, dribbling, and the physicality of the game feel much improved (though I still hate tyat stupid bump animation that gets played out way too often).

Off ball defense, teammate ai defense, weird body types and weird pass logic are my main gripes with the game. Some of which I hope are improved with a patch.

Biggest thing I hate this year is the horrible quick menu system and UI. the on the fly options are terrible to navigate, and the 'be the coach' UI during timeouts are straight up confusing. Its a huge step back for the on the fly coaching systems as it is really clunky and unintuitive.

Hard to believe this is already the 4th installment on ps4/xbone, and it's gotten better each year.

Best part to me is how they've sped up games in general with faster load times and by removing that dumb halftime show.

Also tier search in online play is fantastic.

I guess no one has been cheesed by the moving screen bs. People can literally push you from the 3 pt line and drag you into the paint for wide open 3s lmao. It's an unintentional feature of the new contact system they use.

I'd like them to test the servers and online shit because it's been garbage every year. And people put up with it because what else are they gonna play? Live 95?

Amazing scores.

Why does the game getting hammered with negative reviews on Steam though?

Because these are people that have actually played the game.

Search the 2k17 bug list on reddit and you'll know why.

Add on the VC bullshit and you'll see why the reviewers are a joke.

Not saying the game isn't very good but no game with this many bugs, feeling so rushed and with ptw bs deserves a 9/10 or 90%.

I have encountered little to no bugs on PC.

However I agree with the VC bullshit. This series continues to go further down the rabbit hole of pay to win micro DLC crap, and doesn't get called on it often. The headline mode, MyPlayer, is basically a ridiculous grind and seems balanced for those who DO buy VC credits with real money. The game also throws the option to buy VC in your face at every turn in that mode.

I play the game though for its simulation brand of basketball, which I think its fantastic at. Its the most realistic and best sports game out there at the moment.

Love the game, but it was a rush job.(PC user)
All skinny players look like crack addicts.

Core gameplay has improved, the dribble system is a welcome change. The franchise mode is arguably the best ever.. The game is just buggy as hell.

The ign review mentions it although only in passing. Against teams that run a lot of motion on freelance it's frustrating. I played againdt the Hawks once on superstar and it's open shot after open shot after open shot because my teammates would get stuck on screens like idiots, or dragged due to someone cutting at the right time.

The frequency of injuries is terrible... even if I set it to 1, four players got injuried in one game in myleague... arrgh.

If you actually enjoy playing the game, then the VC stuff isn't really an issue. I haven't paid a single cent for VC since they introduced it and have never felt like I needed to do anything beyond playing the games to get enough credits.

Definitely staying away from the pc version this year. Last year was absolutely horrible. Then they patched it and while it helped others, it made things even worse for the other half of consumers (such as myself). Now the question of which is better ps4 or xbone? Or are they practically both the same performance wise?

I haven't played a 2k since 13, before that 11, and before that 08. Think I'll get on-board for this one around black friday.

The bugs are sad, i wonder if it might be better for some to wait for a price drop and for them to come out with a patch
They released the game a week earlier than usual this year, I wonder if that contributed at all. The big annoying bug that seems insane is that during in game timeouts the adjustments you make do not work, nor do the substitutions.

Anyways, still loving the hell out of this latest iteration of the series but they need to get a patch for some of this BS soon

Sub Zero

his body's cold as ice, but he's got a heart of gold
The stat caps in MyCareer are a joke this year. You can no longer create well balanced players and all the archetypes are extremely restricting. Not to mention that a lot of stats that can be raised only in team practice are glitched and never increase.

Career mode was much better last gen, before all the online bullshit modes were shoved into it and 2k started introducing all these silly restrictions.

It's the only Basketball out there. Doubt it'll make a difference if they score 7 or 8's.

Grinding VC still a bitch, I wish you can transfer VC's from previous iterations... But that's never going to happen, gotta make those micro-transaction money.

I've had it since Monday. Finally was able to scan my face in using the mobile app. Career mode feels a lot less cheesy this time around (no more "freakin and vibin"), and the interactions feel more natural.

But the stat caps are a joke. I created a stretch big PF, only to find out that I sacrificed quite a few important stats that seemingly cannot be upgraded to reasonable standards for balanced player purposes.

I still like the 2K series very much, but character creation from NBA 2K11 and 12 still have yet to be surpassed. The VC grind is real, and it sucks a lot of the enjoyment out of the game.

It's crazy what 2K/Visual Concepts has done with NBA2K. They have no real competition and still continue to make massive improvements. Something we can't say for Madden since 2K/Visual Concepts has been out of the picture.

I got the PC version and have yet to encounter any glitches personally. Performance is rock solid for me, and it's the best playing 2K yet IMO.

This is one of my reasons for never doing mycareer. I hate the specialty player aspect instead of being free to create the player I want. Also always starting out being a terrible player. Add to that we have the Show introducing career carry over and nah...waste of time. Ill always just create my player and put him on the Lakers and do franchise mode.

I loved 2k16, but I' ll wait till the season starts to pick this year up. Madden is more than holding my interest for now. The prelude felt good though,

I'm a MyGM/MyLeague guy and I love everything about the game. Little bugs here and there but love the overall flow of the game.

I wouldn't trust any of these reviews.

The gameplay is better but this is one of the most bugged out 2K releases ever.

Coaching adjustments dont work. At all. You loterally cannoy change your POEs, they do not stick.

Substitutions are glitched

-subs dont come in until the NEXT dead ball

Scoreboard is glitched

My player stats are glitched.

They COMPLETELY ruined many of the character models from last year( the 8 yr old skinny bodytype on so many players when they already had thr correct model last year)

-moving screens that completely disable controls

-layup timer is glitched and cant be turned off

- COMPLETELY fucked up the UI for the on the fly menu and timeout huddle

Been playing this game since last friday and online is still a laggy shit show. Its basically impossible to play online with the amount of lag, you have to release shots well before the animation says to.

Every year this same problem exists, its frustrating.

This is why I stopped buying. 2K haven't had a good online mode in any of their games dating back to Dreamcast. Regardless of how well made this franchise is, I've had my fill of playing the brainless AI.

Everything is basically a step up since last year, except from online. The luckiest player usually gets the W and the chance to actually make an open shot lies almost entirely whether you 're lucky or not. Input lag makes players like Harden missing too many open jumpers and layups.

I think it's pretty great so far too, def my favorite version of 2K yet for this generation. Haven't tried online yet but gameplay is smoother and the UI is cleaner and faster than ever before. Whole package feels like a love letter to NBA fans.

MyGM additions make it the deepest GM mode I've seen in any game, the expansion and rule change stuff keeps things fresh. Still think some systems can be tweaked to be better but it's prety robust as is. Haven't spent as much time with MyPlayer but I like the RPG-lite format better than last year, even if it's a bit grindy with practices. Even had some fun with the challenges in MyTeam, which I normally avoid. There's some neat single player stuff in there to go along with head to head matchups.

Also Zach Harper from CBS Sports wrote a lengthy review, which I really enjoyed: http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-2k17-review-this-is-the-best-franchise-mode-in-sports-video-games/
