People saying Trump did great at the beginning do not know how a debate works.

Trump was disciplined in the beginning and for Trump that is literally all he needed to be to be judged strongly. Thank god he couldn't hold it. He turned into the Trump that has been babbling for hours and hours and hours at his speeches. He turned into what was expected of him and even the kindest pundit grading on the most generous of curves can only see that performance as a dagger in his campaign. I just hope America was watching and paying attention to the lunacy.

Preparing for debates is important, not necessarily because of having factoids or talking points, or anything else.

Preparing for when people personally attack you, preparing for people digging up your skeletons, preparing to get angry and know how to manage your anger is what's important.

Trump started out strong, weathered her repeated attacks, and even tried to fight back but she just buried him in an avalanche of personal attacks and he completely lost it. His temper is either unmanageable or he simply refuses to manage it and he fell apart halfway through. He completely withered as she just laid into him.

Unfortunately he also didn't prepare any counter-points for Hillary's multifarious attacks against him. He knows his skeletons better than anyone and there's no excuse for him coming out this unprepared for the attacks he was receiving.

My thoughts.

Trump: Better debater, more charismatic, more suitable for foreign policy. His domestic policies would be disgusting.

Hillary: More sane, totally better at domestic policies. She never wanted to address Trump head on though which worries me.

Conclusion: I still don't like either candidates.

Trump's foreign policy was terrible. He criticized the Iran deal, but provided no answers on how he would solve it. He would rather drive Iran to nuclearize and war, than deal with the situation peacefully.

Trump just lost the election. Dude was good for the first 20 minutes, but then lost his stamina and got flustered. Clinton just let him talk himself into a corner.

"You said you were smart for not paying taxes, do you regret that now?"

"I didn't say that."

I was really pissed when one said that nuclear war would probably happen and destroy everyone if he was president, and the other laughed. That BITCH!

I'm not even american or voter, but honestly I can't believe that these two are the best America has to offer, being such a resourceful nation :/

Can't believe I was ever concerned for Clinton's performance in the debate. She won this. Certainly helped that Trump wasn't able to maintain the calm and stable facade he entered with. Hillary was just chill throughout, dropping facts everywhere; probably started out a bit nervous though, but once she got a crack at Donald - oh, boy.

Love that big mocking sigh of relief/disbelief after Trump's rambling lmao.

Also, fuck, I would've hated to be in Lester's position. I probably would've ended up throwing a chair at Trump for constantly interrupting, my goodness lol.

Well, half of America probably thinks she lost, so you should be a little concerned.

Oh, and just FYI, there was pre-debate movement towards Clinton, probably regression to the mean after her shit week. As of right now she leads Trump by ~2%. We'll see where we end up after the debate, but it looks good.

This is a swing state average, not a national average, keep that in mind.

Felt like a tie to me. I don't think that anyone who was biased for one candidate or another is going to have their opinion changed. I don't think anyone who is undecided is going to be swayed either way. Trump did his thing, Hillary did her thing.

The undecided will definitely be swayed.

Let's talk about reality: Trump has no stamina.
He's still capable of rambling and yelling and basically butting in, but as time goes on his words make less and less sense. The glue that holds his feeble ideas together just starts to melt away and he start to suffer a bout of mild Palinism.

I hope the next debates are even longer ;p

Clinton played Trump so well. She kept it calm in the beginning and just let him unravel and wore him out. She absolutely destroyed him and then he destroyed himself.

Haha, amazing. Post debate first question to Trump:

"It sounded like you didn't pay taxes...was that what you wanted to say?"

Second question about the birtherism.

Eat shit and choke Trump! Haha.

You thought THAT was charismatic? And MORE suitable for foreign policy?????

Okay. Being more charismatic doesn't make you a better debater. It makes you a better speaker. Trump would be excellent as the tyrannical leader of a small island nation. However, he just shouts nonsense and gets refuted on every turn. That in fact, makes him a god damned terrible debater.

It's a shame this thread is moving too fast for anyone to really bother digging in and asking you to defend these statements.

I think the big takeaway even in the media after the dust settles here is that Trump couldn't handle the pressure of this debate. This was a terrible look for him in the context of his fake persona, especially when they will be running the "stamina" soundbites more than most of the ones from this particular debate. He went from high to low to terribly low by the end, with his final remark being a messy, slumping blurb.

By any conventional measure, Hillary won that debate. Trump started out merely sedate, but became progressively more incoherent, and by the final half-hour he was pretty much a monkey flinging poo.

Anybody who comes away from that thinking Trump won is too far gone to be reached.
