Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

I think the thing everybody is missing is just exactly what this debate will do going forward. First of all, [candidate] won overwhelmingly, it wasn't even close as [candidate] had a complete command of the issues and [candidate] had nothing but gotcha responses. Even with both [candidate] and [moderator] against them, [candidate] continued to dominate each issue and refocus the debates to the important policy questions. You could tell at times that [moderator] was surprised and impressed at how well [candidate] was handling the debates and continuing a withering attack on [candidate] even as [candidate] tried to distract away from [candidate]'s incredible flaws and corruption compared to [candidate]'s long service to the country.

It'll be interesting to see just how much of a boost [candidate] gets from this, as it was so lopsided we haven't had a debate like this where one candidate so clearly won when viewed objectively. Once all the media and politicos distill through the noise their overwhelming consensus that [candidate] won will almost surely push [candidate] into a strong polling advantage. Unless there is a drastic change in the race through outside factors, [candidate] should continue to control the future debates and seal up [candidate]'s victory as [candidate] flounders and falls farther and farther in the hole. Not even [moderator] and [moderator] will be able to save [candidate] from the principled and intellectual assault [candidate] deploys.

This will be remembered as the night [candidate] won the [year] election.

Trump will win simply because he is less fake.

Did you see those smiles?

I saw endless duckface as Clinton spoke.

His mannerisms were just disgusting throughout. His really off-putting gesticulations and constant loud sniffing were just distributing.

Dude was a slobbering mess.

Gotta say, I really didn't like Hillary's fake smiles and calculated humor, especially under attack, but I think that tenor probably got under Trump's skin far more than my own, and that led him to stumble and never recover.

Tell me more about how her demeanor is any different then other politicians.

Go focus more on her smiles especially.

Doesn't that speak more to our flawed tax system than anything else?

Of course a smart businessman is going to exploit our shit tax code.

It certainly doesn't say that he knows how the common man feels or that he'd be willing to change the tax code so that he couldn't take advantage of it.

Stupid DVR cut off the end but I don't think it matters, trump was trump and Hillary was Hillary. No real game changers tonight IMHO.

Oh give me a break.

Hillary's cross to bear is her calculation - that she doesn't come across as genuine a good deal of the time. When she does, she knocks it out of the park imho.

Trump sounds like be believes what he's saying, even when he's talking pure bullshit, but that resonates with people.

Trump is batshit insane, and his comments about global warming not being a priority made me rage but at least he is making his stupidity transparent.

Hillary is a cold robot spouting an irritating politically correct script in order to win and push the establishment agenda, I'd fear that even more.

Im going to bet that you were pulling for Trump to win, and confident that he would; and now that he got thrashed you ar......

Trump is going to destroy her at the debates and things are going to get pretty interesting. GAF will meltdown

Yeah... That's.... really easy to see through.

Eh she had some great off the cuff moments like just laughing when she was given time to respond after Trump just screamed for two minutes about how he has a great temperament.

Aight, Just wanted to check, since it seems that some people are really confused about the image.

Not an American myself btw, I'm from The Netherlands, but man, Trump was so awful (as usual).

I remember Obama using the same tactic, saying the web address out loud instead of just saying "see my website". It gave his site major spikes during the debate.

The fact that Clinton added a "fact checking" feed only fueled more interest I would imagine.

I think Hillary bodied Trump and this coming from someone who is a huge Hillary hater.

She needs to cut out that fake smile shit though, it's annoying.

What was the exact wording about his taxes? I missed that part. I can't believe he gloated about that... no wait, actually I can believe it, he nuts.

Just some notes I had during the debate about shit Trump was saying

-- Rooted for economy collapse
-- Lied about being a global warming denier
-- Admitted to tax evasion
-- Admitted to not paying employees
-- Confirmed he would attack foreign soldiers for a simple taunt
-- Said racial profiling is okay
No, no! The foreign soldiers were the ones doing the taunting.

Trump is a p.o.s. imo, but he does have charisma even though his message is disgusting. Watching Hillary speak is like watching paint dry.

That's not charisma, that's unhinged insanity which is, to Trump's credit, much more fun to watch than watching paint dry.

But seriously, people need to stop saying he's charismatic. Makes me want to do my hair like Donald, be a dick to women and just be generally insane, and I'll watch the ladies flock to me because I'm so charismatic.

wrong election

Can you make a list of the topics you believe he won? I think he should have simply stuck to his message that she's been in Washington long enough to show she can't do the job or is otherwise part of the ineffective establishment that will result in more nothing getting done. Which while wouldn't be very objective could at least be a simple point for the undecided to latch onto. He should have gave every topic a critique from that angle and continued to stay away from the details, and most certainly away from taking all the bait she was lobbing out.

Well, to put it more generally, I think Trump won with people who don't care about debates, or policy. He had enough one-liners to successfully paint her as ineffective. That's really all he needs to do. He doesn't need to play Hillary's policy game, he just needs to make her seem like the same old politics that have done nothing for the average middle class American. I know PoliGAF doesn't necessarily understand this perspective, but many people in America don't care about the intricacies of foreign policy or even specific domestic details. They want someone who projects leadership and who appears to be a "fixer", not a politician.

Whether there's enough of these people to put the election in his favor remains to be seen. But I don't think his fumbles tonight were enough to ruin his position with most undecideds and independents. I say this as someone who supported Bernie and plans to vote for Hillary.

The belief that she's anti-vac is a myth.

She has stated numerous times that she is not anti-vac.
Dude, her rhetoric is straight out of the anti-vaxxer playbook. I'm not going to dig up whit, but it's a common thing to see someone say they're for vaccines, then bring up all the ways they're against it.

He let both of them walk over him, and he was being called out by Trump for everything. EVERYTHING. Guy has the facts right there, and let himself get walked over.
Again, I didn't watch it. I'll have to wait till Wednesday to make an analysis. It's hard to moderate a debate like that, doubly so because of how intense it was, triple so cause one candidate is spouting "bias" before the actual debate.

From what I heard, dude could've been more assertive, but did his job when it counted.

Of course a smart businessman is going to exploit our shit tax code.
Still, you don't go on TV and basically say "hell yeah I'm part of the problem". A smarter candidate in the same situation would've just danced around the issue and minimized it.

I know, a lot of people are talking. Something's going on.

You know, he doesn't look to be in good health, I'm not a doctor, I can't make that kind of judgment, but if he went to a doctor, I wouldn't be surprised if they said he was dying. And wow. That is not a good look for a presidential nominee.
