Final Fantasy XV EGX Livestream

Was watching the gameplay footage where they explained skills and stuff...holy shit is my main man promptos HP low as hell compared to the others, I mean it makes sense given their character but damn

Edit:wonder if gear was equipped because his attack is massively over all of them but his defense is peanuts

Only thing I feel odd is how much the world map has changed. The first model shown depicted one large land mass, giving the impression FFXV was going to be set similar to FFXII in a region of the world(just a continent of the greater planet), but the more different maps I see, the more the land is being broken apart and is taking the form of different continents(or, at least, large islands). From that newest map, it even looks like they switched the direction of Altissia's facing(seems to be facing north, while other maps showed it facing south).

What's exactly turning you off from the looks?

It's not necessarily about the graphics. I was hoping the more I've seen of the game, it would really start to flex its worth, yet it looks more dull than I expected. The world itself looks rather uninspired and lifeless. I'd hope to see more unique representations of the fantasy based on reality concept.
Insomnia and Altissia are probably the only areas that feel remotely interesting in terms of atmosphere, and only one of them is explorable. Stiff NPC's standing around mostly doing nothing to add to world. Maybe I expect too much of SE given their technical limitations.

I've been iffy about the gameplay ever since duscae & the platinum demo. It feels repetitive and half hearted. The driving seems more like a burden with its restrictions, which is concerning being such a large part of the game's identity. They want it to appeal to everyone, without making it too challenging.

As far as the plot and characters go, I'm not convinced or compelled by any of it. The writing and acting is all over the place. The draw for me was always the darker, somber, tragic themes. Characters with questionable motives and whatnot.

"There's nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so"

I knew a lot has changed since Tabata took over, although part of me knew that they'd go in a different direction for the sake of marketing the game to a larger audience.

I hate that this game has so much cross media and marketing tie-ins.

It certainly has been changed a lot. None of the models seem to match the map in the twitter image.

They even added new land masses right? Now it feels more like a proper FF worldmap tbh. We now also have confirmation of a snowy area, even if was totally expected.

It is almost like, throughout the development of the game, the lands of Eos went through a steady continental drift. Maybe, at first, they DID want Versus(or early FFXV) to take place in one continent/region of the world(like FFXII), but decided to make it a world spanning adventure(like the majority of other FF games).

In that newest map, you can see that swampy area from that video where there is the huge drill equipment and Noctis and crew encounter that Marlboro. You also see that one temple/ruin seen in the Worlds of Wonder Environment video, which I thought was a part of Altissia but looks to be its own area further west from Lestallum(probably another tomb/dungeon). That specific location, from how the entrance is a walkway surrounded by water on both sides, I'm getting a flashback to FFVIII's Tomb of the Unknown King, which could be intentional(Unknown King.... Noctis searching for the tombs of Lucis's old kings... hehehe).

Baka Nano played a newest build at GameForce in Belgium today.

- I played a BRAND NEW FFXV build today and it was AMAZING. The game is gorgeous and I didn't encounter any glitch or bug. I WANT MORE.

- Like a brand new build you guys haven't seen yet, the game does look really good now on PS4.

- Yup! The game was amazing, they polished the game even more, it was a brand new ffxv build we haven't seen yet.

- I also saw the full skill tree, there are 6 different skill trees now: Combat, Exploration, Techniques, Teamwork, Stats & Recovery.

- Also, each character has a limit break ability we can unlock, they cost 999 AP.

- Well there are 6 sphere grids now, it's another design too. They don't look like the Gamescom spheres.

- It's big, and there are 6 different skill trees. Some abilities cost 999 AP, some cost 333 AP, it's gonna take awhile to fill.

- They fixed the invisible chair glitch in the build I played today.

I hope it's not just the Kingdom of Lucis (Leide, Duscae, Cleigne) that has wide open fields but that, when we go across the ocean to Altissia and further, there will be more regions like that too. Tabata mentioning that the second half of the game will be more linear worries me in that regard. :/ If only Lucis is open world and the rest is enclosed and traversed in a linear fashion (just by train?) it feels to me as if they ran out of time and funds over the long developement timeframe and simply cut a lot of stuff.

He reiterated what he said and meant it's really only near the ending where it progresses more linearly, not the entire second half.

Feel free to make it. I'll try to find more impressions if there are any.

That's good to hear. I was worried we would have a reversed FFXIII game progression. A Versus XIII so to speak. ;D

Wow, wasn't expecting that much of a difference in the skill tree.

GG, Taba-chan.

EDIT: "There was also an ability that gives you AP when you do long drives."

Man, this is brilliant. They're dealing with the roadtrip aspect so well.

WOW! This deserves a new thread.

You know how FFXV threads go, might as well keep it here.

I'll wait for more impressions then. This one you posted is great, it seens Tabata wasn't kidding when he showed the PS4 version yesterday.

"FFXV gets levelling system revamp on old release date, tumultuous development?"

"wow this game is a mess"

can already see it

Wow, wasn't expecting that much of a difference in the skill tree.

You guys are right =(

This comment from Naora was really cool as well (dude retweeted it):

"Yesterday, Taba-chan kindly showed me FFXV's ending. It was my last work, and it became the greatest ending."

I want the original Stand By Me to play as the credits roll :')

I also hope the world isn't just the Lucia area. Cause it seems like that area would be open all the way by chapter 4 at least.

I'm interested in if Noctis gets a limit break that's completely separate from Arminger, some sort of addition to Arminger, or if the limit breaks are just for others.

This guy also posted his hands-on impression on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXV/comments/55em5i/i_played_final_fantasy_xv_today_sharing_my/

So I got to play 1 hour of Final Fantasy XV today (2 30 minutes sessions), I played it on PS4 and it was a brand new build we haven't seen before.
First of all, the game looks absolutely beautiful, really. You guys have to actually play the game before judging graphics.
There's almost no popping anymore, the anti aliasing is good, the draw distance is good, looks like they added even more foliage, also looks like they improved the lighting. Here are some pictures (sorry for the bad quality, off-screen with a phone.)
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CtsJPpwWYAAR4gj.jpg http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2016/39/1475332804-abcv.jpg (bad quality but look at the foliage)
I don't even feel like a need a PS4 Pro anymore, gonna stick with OG PS4. Also, they said during the last ATR that the Pro version will just be the PS4 version with 4K + HDR, so no thanks. Also, the game on PS4 was running at a solid 30fps, I didn't notice any drop even when fighting alot of enemies.
Let's talk about the world, the world is MASSIVE and you can feel it instantly, I felt like an ant lost in Eos.
Some events can happen when you're adventuring in the world, that Giant bird creature charged me at some point, it looked amazing. There was also a sandstorm at some point so you couldn't see much in the distance, it looked pretty cool and changed the atmosphere.
The character interactions really impressed me, it's top notch and feels so natural. When you're driving or walking around in the world, they'll sometimes tell jokes, they'll discuss, they'll talk about the current quest, etc. It really made me feel like I was part of the group, like I was there.
I stood still for 2-3 minutes during chapter 0 just listen to the music and it was pretty damn epic, Shimomura is a god. They also added the names next to the characters when we see them for the firs time during chapter 0, small detail but it was maybe to make sure everyone knows it's Noctis & co when they play the game.
Ok, the gameplay now. It's good, really good. Way better than Platinum Demo (and I loved platinum demo's gameplay)
Everything is fluid, I could do alot of combos, swap weapons, etc. I was also able to use a gun in this build, the gameplay with the gun I had was pretty simple, you could just spam firing bullets and you could dodge in every directions while firing.
The link-attacks are also amazing, they happen when one of the bros is close to Noctis and their animations are damn good, there are a ton of different animations it's crazy.
And the combat is VERY satisfying, I loved it. And you know what? I WAS ONLY LEVEL 1. Can't imagine what we'll be able to do later in the game. I didn't have any problems with the camera, but I was only able to play outside, didn't go in a dungeon or anything.
Oh yeah, on a side note, I went to Galdin Quay specifically to try swimming, but there was an invisible wall. I couldn't get in the water, but what I played was a demo so they maybe just disabled it for the demo, I couldn't rent chocobos either because it was a demo. I also try to go to Duscae but the route was closed (probably because you have to advance in the story before being able to go there.)
There was a couple playing together in the beach, they were splashing eachother and laughing, it was cute.
I didn't encounter any glitches or crashes or bug during my playthrough, they fixed some glitches that appeared in the last build like the invisible chair. (check the first screenshot I linked at the beginning)
I also saw what I think is the full Ascencion grid, there are 6 categories now, each catogery = 1 skill tree. Those categories are: Combat, Exploration, Techniques, Teamwork, Stats & Recovery. The ascencion grid seemed kinda big, and some abilities cost alot of AP. There's a limit break sort of ability for each character and they cost 999AP EACH.
Can't remember much but i'll try to write some skills I read, I saw some sort of "flame" attack with daggers in the skill tree (costs 333 AP), there was also an ability that imbues your weapon automatically with the element your enemy is weak to.
In the "Exploration" category, there was a skill that makes you gain AP when you camp, there was another one that makes you gain AP when you do long drives. In the "teamwork" category, I remember an ability called "Regroup", it regroups the party together in a "defensive stance" or something like that.
Also, the "Airstep" ability is basically just the aerial combos thingy, we basically had infinite airsteps in Platinum Demo, there's no double jump. (#sadface), there was also an ability that makes you gain MP when you land an aerial attack (infinite aerial combos confirmed?!)
But it looks like the last ability of each category costs 999 AP. One of them was "you can now equip 3 accessories" That's all I can remember for now, sorry.
I also saw 2 new loading screens while playing: https://twitter.com/Fotmhero1030/status/782230114465710080
But yeah. I loved what I played, I really think it will be one of my favorite games of all time, if not my favorite!

Bolded some interesting parts. Is it true that they said in the recent ATR that the Pro version will only have 4K res and HDR? :/

I was ready to buy a darn PS4 Pro if there was a 1080p mode with additional graphical bells and whistles...I'm not going to buy one if 4K res is all the game gets. I hope that is not true...

I hate when ppl say this tho because if he was negative ppl wouldn't say that they'd automatically believe him

I'm not talking about baka nano, his post is reasonable.

I'm talking about the rambling reddit guy who keeps talking about GOAT and unsubstantiated claims like what the Pro version contains.

I was ready to buy a darn PS4 Pro if there was a 1080p mode with additional graphical bells and whistles...I'm not going to buy one if 4K res is all the game gets. I hope that is not true...

I mean, i doubt there will be a 1080p mode with better graphics, i've said before that i expect most games to generally only support checkerboard rendering and HDR with a more stable FPS cause it doesn't benefiit developers working on a single SKU to put extra effort into Pro outside of higher pixel counts. I just want confirmation of the claims.

Also, i would not be buying a console for just one game, just saying.

They did have a slide that mentioned 4kHDR but the entire video was in Japanese, we need someone to confirm

His off-screen image is kinda hard to notice the details. Could someone compare it to an older build? He mentions that the vegetation is improved.

according to NOVA CYRSTALIS,
[Additionally, Tabata confirmed the base PS4 version will remain at a dynamic resolution – that means it won’t be at 1080p all the time. While not much was said about the PS4 Pro, he did say the game will support HDR on that platform.

So yeah.. not confirmed.

I also wouldn't. I own a couple of other games that are confirmed to get a Pro update and I will buy a couple of upcoming games that will obviously get a Pro update. ;)
Final Fantasy XV is kind of a big deal for me though and after the game looked pretty rough in recent months I was prepared to invest the money in the best version I can get on release day...even though I don't like the iterative console approach at all.

I'm in the same mindset. Playing this game for the first time with the best possible graphical fidelity in 1080p is the tipping point in convincing me to upgrade.

I honestly don't even think you need it. Unless you want it badly. I pre order it off the hype for this and kh3 later but i cancelled like a few days later and hearing about the recent builds just made me happier I did. Seems it'll be fine on the og

Liking what I'm hearing about revamped skill trees.
What we were shown before gave me unfortunate flashbacks to XIII's Crystarium, which was really just a straight line.

Even if the only Pro mode is checkerboard rendering with far more solid or locked 30fps, its still going to be the best possible version, best possible FPS and substantially best possible IQ, especially since the PS4 version is going to be dynamic 900p to 1080p. And that goes for whether or not you have 1080p TV or 4K TV

Is there lore attached to items in recent FFs?

Haven't played one since X

Not like Nier, no.

He probably just misunderstood this tweet translating yesterday's ATR regarding the graphical improvements on the base version + small mention of Pro having HDR support.

https://twitter.com/MoogleKupoCake/status/781804273667563520

- Screenshots were captured just today from the latest PS4 version compiled today. PS4 Pro will have this + HDR.

Also, other ATR translations when Tabata showed those new screenshots:

- New FFXV pictures, from latest debug version should be coming up soon.

- They've worked hard to improve the trees and image quality. Final result. This is the normal PS4, no Pro.

- They managed to get the quality of grass and LODs up a lot in the last few weeks working with programmers. Base PS4 gameplay.

- Runs at 30 frames for the most part. PS4 dynamic resolution isn't always 1080p.

From XV forum:

- Q: Shuya are you able to confirm/go over Tabata's comments about the visual improvments? Stable 30fps? image quality and LOD was the focus in these past few weeks?
- A: That's what he said. All the work that was done was in preparation for last nights "Data Lock".

A locked 1080p with extra AA for Pro would be wonderful in addition to the 4K mode, and increased sample count on the motion blur would also be nice.

I hope they don't just go the checkerboard and nothing else route, but if they are determined to just get the game out the door in the best condition possible on the OG consoles and don't have too much time for Pro then that's understandable.
