Is it mandatory btw?

Nope.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.

How long before I'm getting chased by one of these freaking things after it catches cyber-rabies?

Reminds me of that killer robot from that Val kilmer Mars movie.

Hu this is the first time since I got my PS4 at launch that I had it in rest mode and instead of turning it on and it would have the update ready to download and install it it was just done by itself. On the firmware side that is.

I noticed the other day that the fans are constantly running while in rest mode, even overnight. Hopefully this update will fix that.

Like with any OS, PS4 will see many updates. I think the ones with new features are thread worthy, otherwise, we'll be creating countless threads.

P.S. Does Steam and Live update as often (with no particular new features, just stability)?

Any mumblings of anything going on behind the scenes in this or 4.0 on the developer side? There was that rumor the PS4 Pro would ship with 512MB more RAM free while still having 8GB system memory, so I wondered if an update would free 512MB for every PS4. Or FreeBSD version updates, video drivers...Anything?

Ever since the last patch I've been getting dirty disc errors when waking up from suspended mode even though the games are all fine... I hope this fixes that. =\

It's not like there's a firmware update every week, I don't see the issue in letting people know a new update is out.

No biggie. It's a stealth install with auto updates on and what not. The gifs area always fun, though, so that's worth it.
But I am curious if Live, Steam and the like are the same, or if they are even stealthier.

Man, talking about the bliss of auto updates; I do not miss the days of manually updating my browser.

I know Steam updates often, mostly with bug fixes and such.

Every time Sony auto-pushes one of these, I come back to my PS4 going into the permanent blue blinking state when I try to turn it on. Holding the button for 10 seconds then rebooting is the only way to end it, and then after that I can see it "successfully" updated the software and I'm on the latest version. I just can't boot right into it from the get go after a new version. Weird.

Dunno if it's just me, but one thing I've noticed since the update is that editing recorded footage no longer requires capture gallery to quit the current game, it just suspends it.
