(Partial) Mod support and 4K coming to Skyrim and Fallout 4 on PS4

I don't really need external assets. I just wish for some "real life" mods that add the need to eat, sleep and so on to the game. Basically make skyrims world more immersive.

How are my chances?

That typically requires scripting, so it's not likely outside of possibly some very basic stuff... might be able to abuse the powers system to give you bonuses and penalties based on food and drink.... hm

Too late, Sony. At least for me. I sold my PS4 copy of Fallout 4 a week ago, and plan to upgrade to the PC version as soon as a good deal comes around on Steam. As for Skyrim, already have the complete edition on Steam and just waiting for the free remaster.

I'm having a hard time believing this is about QA. Sony can just allow Bethesda to release mods and then take all the blame for them being non working instead of having a storm of bad PR.

So what happens when little Johnny crash's or screws up his game. Or a group start a class action lawsuit that the game is broke? Who's gonna deal with that? Sony or Bethesda?

Wow, that #4theplayers onboard-asset "mod" support :^)
Good to see they worked... something out but that's kinda lame.

Seems like the damage is already done though. The average person is gonna think the PS4 doesn't support mode for Skyrim and Fallout
We're talking about consoles here. Not that hard to understand

How many people outside of us gamers mod their games???
I highly doubt the average player ever mods games. Otherwise they'd have a PC.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
I think calling this "mod support" is somewhat false advertising then ...

It allows PC mods, its legitimate. XB1 also does not have most PC mods, they are still mods.

I don't think they worked anything out. Sony refused to budge, Bethesda just threw up their hands. THey probably thought taking it to the public would get Sony to budge, but it did not happen.

It's better than nothing, but some people aren't realising just how partial this support is.

The majority of popular mods on the steam workshop won't work, which is already a relatively restricted environment for mods. Just going by the first page of the most popular mods, I think just 1 or 2 out of 30 would be allowed. The claim that most mods only use the original assets is pretty dubious.

http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/...=readytouseitems&days=90&actualsort=trend&p=1

"Additions to Lakeview" for example seems like one which would work, but anything with custom models, textures, menu systems, voice acting etc is off the table.

What mods WILL I get then? What is a typical mod I can expect on ps4?

New dungeons using existing assets, basically rearranged versions of the same things in the game. New quests would be easy enough. cheat weapons that just change the stats of the weapons and not the actual appearance. New NPCs that were built using the existing character creator.

there is a fair amount you can do with it but the bulk of the cool stuff is most certainly gone

So, no unique weapons and armour? That was going to draw me back into the game.

More fool me for buying FO4 on PS4. Ah well, I guess I won't be bothering with any of the DLC now.

Damn it. First I pre order Skyrim for PS4, then cancel it to pre order the xbox one version, now I need to cancel again to switch back to the PS4 version.

I'd wait until Bethesda/Sony explain crystal clear what "external assets" mean/entails.

Did you really expect bethesda did try and push this game to 60fps. Why would you expect such a thing if they did not for fallout, or any or console game they've ever done

Because they could have achieved a strong 60fps at 1080p/1440p with a few levels of MSAA. Now, we get 4K with a shakey frame-rate.

The saving grace was that despite SKSE not being a thing for consoles, the two systems would of been able to take advantage of some of the amazing quest mods. However, many of them do have external assets so it looks like that's not even an option now :/

At least on Sony's platform.

4K skyrim plus mods will be on my lookout list when I buy PS4K. Happy for the announcement for mods and hope for the best :)

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
But it's not on their new engine. They've just added features which are present in the new one.

30fps? what a joke.
The engine is tied to the frame rate.

People playing fallout/skyrim in 60fps are literally playing the game at 2x speed. Kinda crazy more people haven't realized this.

FTFY.

Because AFAIK, the engine only goes bonkers beyond 60fps.

I have played through Skyrim/Fallout 4 with heavily fluctuating framerates with 60 being the cap and there is no noticable slowdown/speedup as the game drops frames. If you got any better insight on this tho, feel free to share some info on this since it'd be a great read.

Glad I'll finally be able to craft ammunition. That was a stupid thing to exclude from the game considering how much of an emphasis they put on crafting...

If there's a mod where you can create a new character and start the game without going through the ~30-minute-1hour tutorial area, I'll be thrilled.

There's no way I've been Benny Hilling my way around Skyrim and Fallout just playing it at 60fps. I would have noticed.

Wut.

You might want to go see an eye doctor. Cause no that's not the case. It's your vision.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
What a terrible compromise, either do it properly or don't bother. Mods being restricted to existing assets is absolutely stupid.

For you.

That's quite incorrect, it never worked that way.
It does goes bonker at framerates higher than 60fps, but it absolutely doesn't at 60.
