Well you won't miss much by skipping the campaign, there are tiny bits of backstory in the intro and conclusion of the matches, but apart from that it's basically the same as multiplayer, only you don't choose your game mode.
I'd suggest to go straight to multiplayer, and maybe go back later to campaign to appreciate the small differences (but then I never really cared about story in my videogames, so it's a biased advice). There are also a few achievements to unlock by finishing the campaign, if it matters.

Am I just really out of the loop on how this campaign mode is supposed to play out? Or did they change how it functions since it was originally released?
There are 9 maps in the campaign, meaning you have to play 18 rounds total (9 on each side) to "complete" the campaign. Originally, you could select the map you wanted to play (but not the faction, though the matchmaking would prioritize you to the side you were progressing through the campaign on), but after people stopped playing the campaign a few months after launch, they just changed it into one big playlist where you can get thrown into any campaign map.

It sounds like you got thrown into the last couple maps of the campaign, which would make it seem really confusing. Demeter (the one where everything blows up) also has the most unsatisfying conclusion of the campaign maps; despite winning/losing not affecting that much in the overall campaign, most of the maps at least have different events depending on which side wins (Boneyard and Corporate having the best two- Boneyard has every interior set on fire if the Militia wins, and Corporate has tons of Spectres take down Militia dropships if the IMC wins).

Something like this was what I figured had happened. I had remembered reading that people were having a hard time finishing the campaign due to low player count in that mode - but I never heard that they had addressed it by just making the Campaign mode a random playlist.

It makes sense, logistically, but as a new player I'm a tad bummed.

So, I just had rotten luck getting that as my first map along with not being sure how the mode worked in the first place. I wasn't expecting the entire story to change, but I figured the ending bit would at least make sense for my team winning/losing - not just be completely unrelated and unsatisfying.

Guess I'll give it another go to see if it starts to make more sense. If not, it looks like there are 20+ other modes available to try. From what others have said here, the story isn't really one of the great points of this game in the first place.

Got an Xbone for Xmas, and I've got $25 in points to spend on the store. Is Titanfall's community still strong enough to make it worth picking up the Deluxe Edition?

Well, I jumped in a few weeks back and the Melborne AU server had 12 people on it.

Yet I got into a match in 3 seconds. I wait longer in Halo, Gears and CoD and their populations are obviously much much higher.

So if you're in the US, you won't have any issues.

Filling out matches with AI probably helps. Just want to make sure I'm not wasting my money picking up a game no one plays anymore. :\

If you really care about Achievements? Then maybe don't get it.
If you don't care about achievements, then DEFINITELY buy it.

Yeah, I don't really care about achievements. I just want a fun shooter with mechs to load up once in a while when I have nothing to play. Plus, I've been dying to play Titanfall since it was announced. :)

I'd suggest trying EA Access for a month, that will let you try many games, and Titanfall among them. If you like either the service or the game, you can decide to pay more for full access.
I think Titanfall is definitely worth a purchase, even if all the game modes may not be populated. It's still a unique game, hugely entertaining. Too bad you missed the sales though.

Grab a year of EA Access. You get Titanfall plus all the other free games.

Anyone still play this on PC?

Looking to install again but how is the player count?

I'm in the west side U.S. if that matters, as long as I can find Attrition games again, I'm fine with that.

You'll be good until the launch of TF2 then

Been playing this quite a bit on the Xbox One after more than a year gap. Still the game keeps up and is just as addictive.

I haven't came across an online shooter than wowed me as much since COD4.

Came back to this game after playing COD and Star Wars Battlefront. Those games aren't at the same level as Titanfall for intensity and excitement. Took me a while to get back into timing my jump and wall-run. Capture the Flag and LTS now feature highly skilled players in every match. I wouldn't play those modes alone as I am not that good. And gooser is still the best.

Played a bit after couple months break. Took while to get back to good flow. I just don't understand why most people play attrition, even hardpoint has very few players. LTS, hardpoint and capture the flag are so much more fun.

Finally done. All dem gens completed and forever forgotten. The hardest thing to do is trying to crush opponents out of their own titans before they go Nuclear. And everyone goes nuclear. :( that was harder they getting 100 wins or 50 MVPs.

2 years of titanfall. man it's been great. the regulars that still play on xone are really good, and now since the population is smaller PUB matches turn into all out pro matches.

it's such an amazing game. can't wait for the sequel

Got back to this game recently, and didn't have enough time to rank up completely, but I'm definitely going for Diamond max rank on PC for April.

I hope they bring this system back again for the sequel, it adds so much for me to keep playing. It's addicting.

Went back to this on X1 even though I'm g8 or so on PC. Falling in love again but boy i feel like teams are unbalanced. Idk if its because I'm unranked or what but game after game I'm constantly on the losing team even though I'm putting numbers on the board. Ranking up, doing well, already almost silver but I've only one like 2 games out of ten. Feel like I'm doing all the lifting on the team even though it's just super basic shit like making the most out of my titan, using boost dodge shenanigans and melee etc.

matchmaking was always pretty screwy in this game. it has a hard time balancing teams. try being one of the remaining god tier players left and see what the matchmaking does to you! you literally end up playing 1v6 lol

also, for any of you interested today is the last day of a 2k dollar console Titanfall tournament (shocked invitational). You can find streams on twitch this afternoon.

The game has received a decent size uptick of a few thousand more players per day since the Titanfall 2 announcements

however, is it me or has the servers been shit? seems like they're not spinning enough servers to accommodate these numbers now

While the tech test was going on, there were more than 7k on Xbox earlier tonight.

I don't know why, but although I'm not normally that good at PvP FPS games, I constantly rack up more than 2.0 K/D ratio in Titanfall. Great game.

I just picked this up recently along with my Xbox One S. Does anyone on GAF still play regularly? I come in peace from the PC community! It's super tough to find full games on PC lately, so that's why I got the XB1 version. I saw up to 7000 players online yesterday and got into full games rather quick. Add me so we can play.

I'm down for group play. I'm also a PC vet who dipped on X1 awhile ago.

I've been playing Titanfall like crazy after not touching it for a year and change.

Finally got the 10 gooser kills yesterday and this morning got the Railgun gooser kill and hit Gen 6.

Fuck I love this game, my most played shooter this gen. Can't wait for TF2.

I know, They're actually much easier than I remember. I switched over the Arc Canon vs. the xo-16 chaingun and it made a big difference.

There was one point where I just gave up trying to get gooser kills. But I'm really happy I got the railgun one today.

Looks like they'll be even easier in TF2, pilots don't get launched as high from the videos I've seen so far.

ION has a freaking hitscan beam that OHKOs pilots lmao -- and I had a relatively easy time Goosing with Scorch because the hitbox is large.

Respawn are deliberately making Goosers easier, I guess so Casuals can get in on that meta.

I LOVE this game, i hope i can play this long, from what i can read many of you seems disappointed with TF2 from beta impressions? So maybe that can raise the player count in the first game?

I suppose the EA access crowd will still be on TF1 for a while. Enjoy the game, I'll probably be playing it at least until the release of the sequel. :) (trying to unlock as many achievements as possible right now)

I've been trying so hard to the 10 pilot kills on zone 18.... always hit 8 or 9. It's killing me!!!!

I learnt to love the DMR with time... I think the x4 zoom is the most balanced to use it as a sniper rifle. It won't be suited to all maps, but if there are rooves and/or open spaces it can be great against pilots.
The silencer makes it useless though, I usually equip the stabilizer.
