Also, if Iwata were still alive, he would probably be looking into IoT - the Internet of Things. Considering the ideas of MyNintendo and QoL and having Nintendo devices connect with each other. This is one thing I could have seen happening with Iwata but I don't know if Kimishima is tech savvy or has been following the tech trends at the moment with technical advisors and NERD.

What an incredibly odd statement. He is the CEO of one of the largest technology companies in the world. Do you envision Kimishima as some wide eyed old man who fumbles to unlock his iPhone?

Kimishima himself has stated there are no Kimishima Asks because he was never a developer.

His background was involved in working with banks as a businessman. I'm not saying he is inept, I'm saying if you want to have a vision of things and predicting to plan for the future, he would have to be consulting with others for expertise.

Judging by the UI, hardware and online infrastructure in the 3DS and WiiU, I can see that happening with most of the big shots at Nintendo Japan.

He could be, we dont know if kimishima really like games. He could be like yamauchi and call RPG players hikkiomoris

Just no, AR in your cheetoh bag ridden apartment is not interesting

In general, I agree. For gaming: not even close.

Gonna have to agree to disagree.

VR's wow factor lies almost entirely in first person perspective and head tracking whereas AR has maaaaany more instantly impressive applications (gaming and otherwise).

I'll take games in the real world over a VR experience. That's just a preference though.

Seeing this discussion about the form factors above, I think this was mentioned earlier in the thread, and Emily suggested it as a possibility too, but it's totally possible that the hybrid could just be the first form factor, and then standalone SKU options can arrive at a later date, right?

How? Anything you can represent for gaming in AR, you can do in VR too. Not sure why you'd want to though when most environments you're going to be in for AR aren't even conducive for gaming.

I really am baffled how one could think otherwise

Now the question is, will we get an announcement of the reveal before this thread has run its course or not?

Since we're posting hopes and dreams:

I am just hoping that it's a console/handheld with really good AR. I care far more about AR than VR.

If it's an AR console, I'll buy it even if it's $400-$500 at launch.

If it's just a console/handheld with another shitty controller (shitty controllers are the thing that Nintendo is most consistently good at making), then it needs to be $229 or cheaper for me to buy it at launch. Maybe I'd consider $249 depending on the launch lineup.

Yep. My personal hopes and dreams are based on actual, real Nintendo patents.

Kimishima did says he's looking forward to playing some NX stuff earlier this year in a Japanese interview:

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima was recently asked about the upcoming NX console in Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper. "It's something very new," said Kimishima. "The hardware, the software lineup, all of it is something I’d like to play for the first time myself."

Obviously he's going to act like he's interested in their own product, so this doesn't really mean anything, but reading people talk about Kimishima made me remember that quote.

VR's wow factor lies almost entirely in first person perspective...

Have you played any third person vr games? I didn't think it would work as well as first person games at first, but the platformer in Playroom VR was amazing. I would love a Mario game in VR.

That's what we all initially thought. These initial rumors or at least first working prototype doesn't confirm that bigger picture. I'm hoping it is still the case though.

1 platform, 1 software line, you pick home or hand held machine or both.

See, at that time I was really concerned about how to leverage the shared catalog as something more than a more robust catalog for greater sales over time, but as something that would set the device apart at launch. Simultaneous launch? Could they do that logistically? Sell them in bundles? A good, modern handheld that can handle the same games as NX home and a home unit that is competitive with PS4? That sounds way too expensive. Moreover, how does Nintendo make sure that all third-party software works on both devices without twisting their arms too much and scaring them away? Remember all the conversations about how there'd be some that worked on both and some that worked on home console? That just seems helplessly confused, inelegant and just doesn't give the full force of shared catalog.

Hybrid solves all of these issues, but turns out a less powerful machine pushing lower resolution images.

I'm in the "utterly underwhelmed by VR" camp, but I'm also not against the option of having it for those who want it. As long as I get the traditional type of games I'm good.

VR is about presence, scale, and perspective in any environment you want, 1st, 3rd person and otherwise (honestly 3rd person and diorama views are my favorit). AR is about putting things in your environment, whether it makes sense in that context or not, things like lighting, furnature, even the pile of laundry in the corner introduce variables which can break it (ceiling fans of all things wreak havok) VR can do AR also, but it is not limited by it and both are equally dependant on head tracking. I bring in my 3d prints into VR currently, and do everything you see done with AR without my tools passing behind the object reguardless of what angle I am at.

John can you be straight up like La Flame dude

should we expect something Friday (PST) or just wait next week for investor meeting

:(

If he's specific, we could whip up a GUI in Visual Basic to run an IP trace on his comment and use data forensics to determine who told him that info and Nintendo would have them fired.

I just realised that the base system mention from 4chans specs are very similar in size to Gigabyte Brix systems. If that's true then they can pack some very good cooling in it (Brixs can house core i7's). For reference a Gigabyte Brix is about the size of your hand.

You don't know his life yo what if he was a big Pokémon player as his time as President of that company, in secret, when no one knew and never bothered to ask him.

The NX will be revealed during the Clinton/Trump debate and the name for the system will be Nintendo TRUMP.

And the reveal will end with Miyamoto laughing and yelling "Nintendo endorses Trump 100% and we WILL grab you all by the pussy" (with his accent of course).
