New 3D Mario game shown in Nintendo Switch trailer

I'm not trolling or anything i'm honestly curious, can you show me that in screens ? The higher model Mario ?
Just watch the video and the gifs, Mario looks much better than in 3D World. He looks more similar to the MK8 model. You just have to look; Mario and friends were very low poly in 3D World, probably to make up for the fact that 4 characters should be playable simultaneously at 60fps, here they likely don't have to worry so they made him bigger and better

I don't know why, but it looks like something made in Unreal Engine 4. Everything it's so shimmering and "fake" looking, I don't think it's anywhere close to real footage.

Does anyone else think that it looks a bit soulless? It's like the game is missing an atmosphere. That's why I think the game is still in development, with a probable release in holiday 2017.
I think it looks much more full of life than any Mario game since Galaxy. I loved 3D World too, but it has a very vanilla aesthetic to it. This looks like a whole new adventure.

I think some of y'all are reading too much into pre-announcement footage. I'd take the video to be proof of vision and proof of the game being at some stage of development

Does she enjoy playing a 720p game on a TV of that size, standing so close?

The only thing about the camera that bothers me is how low it is, so if it's fully open then you can change that but otherwise it suggests it's more of a guided experience like 3D Land/World, which also had parts with similar camera angles.

Hoping it's a 64/Sunshine style of game, but I will keep my expectations in check for now.

this looks like a super early version, I wouldn't expect this before 2020

but it's the mario 64 successor I have always been waiting for, I mean I loved the galaxies and 3D land, but this here, this is what I always wanted, this is the megaton for me, not the switch. although I like the switch as well.

Indeed, even outside of Zelda we don't know how many of these will turn into actual games(it seems this will be one though), it wouldn't be the first time it happens with a Nintendo console.

Hm yeah why not...
It's not super obvious i mean

At least the smoke is exactly the same lol.

I think looks Mario 64-ish myself.

It doesn't look like Galaxy to me much at all. The camera on the second half of the clip is completely behind Mario. You can hardly see the platforms he's about to jump on, which says to me that you can control the camera more fully (like you could in 64, correct?). In Galaxy, you couldn't control the camera at all, so all the camera angles were always very clearly showing the obstacles you'd have to jump on/over.

Call me crazy, but the way Mario seems to walk into that town in the red sand makes me think this is quasi-open world or something. It looked like a hub.

Lol 2020...sure.
Remember the reveal of 3D World and how that turned out? You know how Nintendo works. They put all the graphicals bells and whistles very late into the game. If the game is, lets say, one year awayit will look A LOT better than those glimpses of gameplay.

Does it? I don't think it looks anything like 3D World and nothing suggests it's 1080p. There's a very distinct style that we haven't seen from previous Mario games.

Im assuming 1080p cause what kind of system gets released in 2017 and cant output at that resolution. Especially at the rumored prices.

There is nothing distinct about the art style of this game. This very much looks like the kind of aesthetic we had in mario 3d world. Dont mistake areas or stages you havent seen before with the art direction.

If it's linear, no thanks. I haven't liked a linear Mario platformer since...geez, SMW2, if that counts. NSMBWiiU is okay, but mediocrity is not what I've come to expect from Mario platformers, and yet since Galaxy, these more linear games have been all show (Galaxy 2 is straight up the most aesthetically-pleasing game ever made as far as I'm concerned) and no go.

I love Mario overall and desperately want to love the next Mario platformer, but it needs to hearken back to 64 and Sunshine in terms of design.

Of course, if it's open world, it gets my money day one and will probably end up in the running for best game ever made.

it hasn't even been officially announced, yet. there was a tech demo for zelda at the wiiU reveal and now it's coming for the follow up console, that's how I know nintendo works. and if mario switch is what I hope it is, it will be far bigger than 3D world in every way. and maybe this is only a tech demo as well, who knows.

lol at some people comparing a mario game to 3d world of course most mario games going to look like that, 3d world was the first 3d like mario set in mushroom kingdom, if they remade mario 64 its going to look like 3d world because its set in mushroom kingdom unless it uses completely different art style like cel shaded or something. only reason galaxy looked different was because it was set in space and the spherical levels. Its obvious its a mainline mario game ala, 64/sunshine/galaxy and not 3d world with how the movement and camera is.

Because I can't see the walls clearly in the footage, I believe that the entire game is actually just one straight corridor.

Zelda is Zelda.

There was a time in which there would be about 1 core Mario per gen, but since Galaxy Nintendo have pumped them out more frequently. This is probably a 2017 game, early 2018 at the latest I would say.

Is it me or the graphics better than 3D world?

The shaders and lighting alone are step above 3D World.
Seems like they took a page or two from Maro Kart 8's team.

The level also seems more visually busy but obviously we need some direct footage to make a proper analysis.

I still have an old GameCube box with a picture of Donkey Kong riding an ostrich in a racing kind of game

3D World aesthetic consists in floating cubes made of different textures and very little detail, with clonic patterns in walls and editor-like elements that look always the same.

A gameplay of just 4 seconds of this Mario shows a little mexican village containing several crafted buildings full of easter eggs and a linear platforming segment which has some ruins and what seems to be an unique architecture.

3d world was the first 3d like mario set in mushroom kingdom, if they remade mario 64 its going to look like 3d world because its set in mushroom kingdom unless it uses completely different art style like cel shaded or something.

Mario 64 was a very linear game just like galaxy, yeah theres some stars that you can collect whenever. Openworld games are not a good fit for platformers because level design is key in platformers to be fun unlike rpgs where explorations is a big part.

Nice to see the heart. So it looks like it will return to health opposed to the big/small system.

Guessing holiday 2017 release

But it doesn't have to do with whether the system can output at that resolution or not (though that's a necessary component). I'm certain that Switch will have 1080p content. However, for this game, it's a matter of whether Nintendo chooses to prioritize resolution over graphical effects, which we don't know the answer to yet.

If you know how Nintendo works, then I suppose you'd know that when the Zelda tech demo was shown in 2011 EAD3 was still working on Skyward Sword whereas EPD Tokyo's last release was Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker in 2014, with the new Mario probably in development since 2013 when 3D World wrapped.

if this game indeed exist, it is important to remember that it might still change a lot until rease, from those 4 second I liked it, but I also liked 3D World, Galaxy, 64, (wasn't too much of a fan of sunshine however).

But here look at very early image of Sunshine, look royally different than the final release, I also believe thise will be the case for the mario kart game we have seen.

I was thinking switching between dimensions would be a neat hook, can't help but think there has been something in the past that did this though. Otherwise, looks like hot/cold switching might be in there (ice mountains/mexico).

Looked like a muddy flow as he jumps past the bullet bill though, might hark back to sunshine but not explicitly.

Another possibility. Dimension hopping might explain the shimmering / translucent aspects of the the landscape.
