Look at the PS4Pro launch the same way you liked at the base PS4 launch, tech and performance wise. The first round of games never go full Cerny.

How dare you

Only game that i'd love to play on a Pro is FFXV, wich ain't worth 400$ right now to me anyway

I'm still pretty curious to see the differences

I'm holding off too, as a current PS4 owner with a 4K/HDR TV. Getting HDR support patched in on the current system is further cementing my decision.

The CNET review is actually well written. The op saying it's a "poorly conducted review by a big site" is absurd. The fact that it doesn't confirm exactly what you want to hear is the reason it's being maligned.

The IGN confirms what I was fearing. Lack of consistency and transparency with respect to the Pro's benefits. The idea that some games might even run worse in their Pro modes is troubling.

If something as concrete as framerate can be considered highly subjective then CNET saying "we didn't see much of a difference" in regards to a game's HDR support is definitely not misinformation.

Then, its a lie. We can see the difference even on PS4 OG.

the PSVR improvements is what's going to push me over the edge. VR is the best thing to happen in gaming for years and if i can get a better experience of that, it's worth it.

Yeah, I saw it being played at a PSVR demo event a few weeks ago, and the difference with HDR on was very apparent. Admittedly that was being played on a 70" 4KTV - so like you say, maybe CNET's hardware wasn't good enough to take advantage of the improvements.

I doubt it was. A big publication like CNET doesn't have the hardware set up to run this thing? Nah, that's not it.

I just think that they probably did go in expecting this large increase and for them it was kind of a muted experience. It's fair, but at the same time.....it's like...Sony specifically stated that they created the system and didn't want original ps4 owners to feel like they are out matched. The experience is supposed to be remotely the same but with a few extra tweaks. Their review however was so passive that I just can't take it seriously....they largely explained nothing.

It's short and gives zero examples of games tested, comparisons, etc. to base their verdict on. There are several similar conclusions to theirs in the OP, but the cnet review basically is like a specs rundown and 'is this confusing and meh to you too?' editorial imo

but I restored its plain link

Except it shows games tested on the 2nd page?

Maybe you shouldn't do a review thread if you're unable to click through one completely.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Great start off for the reviews. DF covered all the tech questions I've had about visuals, waiting on their potential followup pieces with things like SATA III speed comparisons out of box and with SSD's.

Nice impressions overall, but the wait for Scorpio seems easier now. I wonder how successful they'll be in upselling this thing to new customers.

They do describe games tho

This cnet salt lmao.

People need to relax. I don't think Jeff is really that informed about the system but his opinion isn't weird or wrong. He just doesn't see much of a point for the system but I think for the target audience the Pro will be what they wanted.

I hear him on the Beastcast, he is well informed about the system.

I wonder if the people that were concerned about the power usage are going to dip in now that its less than PS4.

Does that line indicate FPS drops in the Pro?

Yes, to about 52 looking at it, but its much less than on PS4 as you can see from the dark line.

To be honest the kind of visual improvements are the kind that often requires side-by-side comparisons for people to notice the improvements. I'm pretty confident that if most of my friends who play games can't really tell the differences with HDR or image quality improvements without side-by-side comparisons. I can. I most definitely can because I'm a huge graphics whore. So I'm not that surprised or upset if many of these outlets fail to see significant differences.

Disappointed in the lack of emphasis on PS VR improvements.

I know Cerny said that it would be more apparent in second wave of VR games, but still holding my breath for something significant.

Very excited for this console, and the reviews/impressions seem great so far.

Gonna pick one up next summer, along with a 4K TV.

I hope they'll be selling a white version by then!

That's disappointing.

Edit: what res is that Pro version running at? 4K or 1080p?

Does MW:R run solid 60FPS at 1080p?

COD is at 2880x1620 according to DF.

And while it must be annoying to see it dip at all, its substantially less than the PS4 did.

Everything seems pretty good and the VR boost seems significant.

I'm in.

I think Sony really is playing it safe with this and will wait for Scorpio to see what that is all about before locking in specs for the next gen.

I wouldn't say he was that informed going by the Beastcast. He seemed to have no clue about the games that had been announced or what they were even requiring devs to do. Hell someone posted a tweet where says he is looking forward to games developed with the pro in mind. But we already know there can't be anything unique to the pro so the only thing devs can do is make it run or look better all things he doesn't really see.

People dissing Scott Baku... Jeff Bakalar.

If he wasn't able to spot any meaningful differences in the games, that's cool - not every consumer is a pixel-counter, so not every reviewer needs to be.

I value DF to be fascinated by the intricacies of checkerboarding and 52fps vs 56fps, but similarly, i value those that casually say "is it all that noticeable? ... nah"

beyond dissing cnet, does anyone really disagree with the verdict?
"If you don't have a PS4, buy the pro, if you have a PS4, you don't need a pro right now because the upgrade isn't worth 400$, right now"
Sounds reasonable to me.

(I'm still gonna buy one, because just like there's people upgrading from a gtx 980 to a 1080, there's people who want to "optimize" their console gaming experience.
