Nintendo Classic Mini - NES Coming on November 11th (30 NES games)

Bought one last night at midnight intending to keep it, but just played with one that we got for the office and I've changed my mind. It's a neat novelty but I already have at least two other good ways to play these games if I want to. Really great device for "normal" people who just want to plug and play, though.

Good for these poor delusional people. Refuse defeat! Never give up hope!

What's this playing with power book?

bunch of cool stuff in here.

What's the best/most fun class to play in Final Fantasy? Never played it originally, excited to jump in....

Well, the charm to the original FF is playing through is a ton of times with multiple job types!

I beat the game so many different ways growing up..

tell us more about the book! :(

Yeah, it has a few pages for a few of the games and larger spreads with maps/strats for Zelda, Mario, Star Tropics, Punch-Out, Metroid, Ice Climber, and Kid Icarus after quickly going through it.

You missed my literary classic in the making:

It's actually pretty good stuff, although I wish there was a full page for every game included, but I'll take what I got, since it's really for my wife, lol.

It has a nice foreword from EVP Don James, a technical breakdown of the original NES, some additional historical facts on the system and the 80's technology, etc. They lay out the guide in chronological order based on the timeline of release, so it's actually pretty nice.

Oh that's sweet. I want it. I still have the original nintendo guidebook somewhere. Designed with the same look.

Black Friday is in two week. So...no. This won't happen.

It retails for $59 which means Nintendo probably makes like $20 per unit (versus $100 per Wii, which was a new platform and more complex to manufacture.) It doesn't make sense for them to leave money on the table like this. You'll see them ship as many as possible. People are excited now, but these things will be everywhere. They are basically retailer-agnostic.

How much are they? I was debating getting a few amiibos to put by the nes classic but have zero interest in the amiibos functionality. They look rad.

Walgreens usually carries them $4 they have the cool 8bit ones.

TRU has them also, 2.5 inch and 6 inch ones also.

I usually only find a Shy Guy at CVS for like $3 clearance from $15

So... I actually tried accessing the manuals for the first time, and holy shit, Nintendo, seriously? Wtf?

There are no digital manuals in the NES Mini, just a big message that says "ACCESS MANUALS ON YOUR PHONE!" with a QR Code.

????????????????

Why????

In general the interface could have done with more care for collectors and fans. The games don't even have release dates or any factoids on the menu. You can sort the games by publisher and by release date, so the data is there, why isn't it displayed?

People really need to stop treating this like a console release because it isn't. Nintendo isn't going to make 10 million of these because they don't need to. There are going to be obvious shortages because this isn't going to be produced in numbers like a new console would be. This is an accessory, nothing more.

This is to increase brand awareness leading into the holiday and into the Switch launch. I seriously doubt they will be producing this beyond Xmas because they will be solely focused on the Switch release.

Got "information" from two larger retailers that claim they will get another shipment before christmas. Also just was able to order on Amazon.co.uk last week with a shipping estimate for december 8th.

Want another unit as a gift but was lucky enough to have a nice employee at Saturn yesterday that reserved a unit that I just picked up a few minutes ago. Lucky me since they sold out several hundred (!) units in less than 5 minutes this morning and nothing was left. Can´t wait to fire it up^^

I mean, you can take the classic Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage and Monk/Thief route for the first play through, then ditch the mages and go with a party full of Red Mages and Thieves, etc. Lots of combos for fun. lol.

That's really lame.

My point is that they will sell out on Black Friday. Full stop. So, no. You won't be tripping all over them. They will be gone.

Good point, but I'm sure they were going for simplicity and profit. Would there be any licensing issues if they tried adding in the artwork from the original manuals?

I think your logic is a bit flawed. Nintendo isn't building brand awareness at all. Precisely the opposite, they are pretty clearly and obviously leaning heavily on nostalgia. Nintendo does that Nintendo does...and well.

The shortages are most likely artificial, as expected. Unlike a console launch, component supplies aren't an issue here.

because they assume people would be more likely to read the manual on their touch screen phone instead of cycling through menus? I mean, I would prefer to have both to be honest, but I can understand why they would go that route. Still, for people without a smart phone (I know of at least one person in my circle of friends that doesn't even have a cell), this is pretty silly.

How does Nintendo put out a console half-populated with two-player games and then send way fewer controllers than consoles?! How?! How?!?!

I am lucky to be first in line.

I understand personal preference, but perhaps they anticipated that a lot of people already had the Wii Classic controllers, and could just use those instead (with the added feature of the home button returning to the game select menu).

They'll continue to ship them up to and long after the holiday season. Nintendo didn't manufacture and market this product for four weeks and two shipments worth of sales, lol.

Because you read manuals when you are playing the game. It allows you to have the manual out during gameplay.

6:30pm in the UK and the item is not dispatched.

Amazon is useless. According to them it was to be outsourced internationally and shipped to the UK the same day.

At this point they're just talking shit. I might just cut my losses and cancel.

It went from dispatching now to dispatching soon, so fed up. Disappointed as someone who preordered it waaaaay before it got sold out.

And eventually, they shipped a lot of Wiis, too. So?

I wanted to play Mario 3 on a rectangular, sharp NES controller NOW, and I don't have my original NES, so..

Some good advice:

Best Buy isn't telling folks, but they have the 6' cord extenders for $9.99. Not behind the counter, but in the Amiibo aisle.

Get them if you can. I picked up 2 myself.

I wasn't aware that the only way to have a manual available online is to not have it in the package that I bought. My mistake. Sorry.
I agree that the interface is barebones. On the other hand, the interface also isn't particularly accessible. I.e., in order to access games and save states you have to get up and hit reset. This seems like s conscious decision to make it feel more authentic.

Took an inventory of my area Targets via Brickseek this morning before they opened. Quantities were all over the map but generally not great. The three largest stores in the area received 30, 25, and 20 units respectively. Next highest was 15. Then a bunch of stores with 7-8 units, and just as many stores with 3 units.

For kicks I checked again at lunchtime - no store within 120 miles had stock, nor did I expect them to.

Tracking these things is fun - but I'll stick with Retropie until I can get one without a hassle.

Jesus man. You said two weeks in your post. Two weeks is black friday. I simply said it will be sold out on Black Friday. That's all.

YOU WIN! WINNER!

It really doesn't make any sense to extend the controller cables. Just get a long HDMI cable. Longer controller cables not only double the amount of cord stretching across your room, they still force you to get up and walk to the console when you want to switch games.

Although if you are using one of the Wii Classic Controllers with a Home buttons as your primary or secondary controller, the HOME button does actually perform the same action as Reset (the Y and X buttons work as A and B too). If you aren't planning on using the NES controller, or don't mind having a second controller plugged in, then it's absolutely worth getting some extension cables so you don't have to get up to change games.

That said, the plastic loop for slotting the Wiimote wristband through does block the second controller port if plugged into the first, so if you are using a pair of those extension leads or a Classic Controller, you will need to remove it.

People is already reselling this thing at almost $150 dollars hahahahahah I want to die :'D

And the crazy part is that people will pay that for some reason even though these will be readily available by the end of the year. This isn't some limited edition "one-print" product.

Sounds like they shipped a couple million across the states. Maybe more in the short side to have more on Black Friday.

I'm actually interested to see how many they sell this month.
