The Late Late Toy Show is an annual, special edition of the Irish late-night chat show The Late Late Show. Airing annually on RTÉ One near the end of November or early-December, the Toy Show prominently features the popular toys of the year that are showcased before the oncoming Holiday season as presented by the host and demonstrated by various children on-stage, along with appearances by celebrity guests. Since its first presentation in 1975, the Toy Show has become a cultural institution in Ireland

Starts December 2nd RTE One at 9.35pm. Or streaming links shortly.

The Late Late Toy Show is the highlight of RTE's Christmas line up (which isn't saying much), and is basically a giant toy commercial, hosted by Ryan Tubridy, with kids coming up and demonstrating the toys, video games, whatever, and a large amount of said toys are 'given away to every member of the audience!'

In recent years, they've started to shoehorn in a load of kids talent bits and what not, but its still good stuff.

Presenter Ryan Tubridy said: "One of the great things about The Late Late Toy Show is that it's the one night when we can collectively forget all the doom and gloom in what has been a very weird year.

"The fact that it is available to watch free across the world means that Irish emigrants get a chance to connect with their home in a way that is absolutely unique to us as a people.

"Nobody else would understand what this bonkers show is about!"

And it is available to watch internationally! I'll grab the links when they're more readily available closer to friday. I think gaf would love this show.

Ha an official GAF thread for the Toy Show.

Subbed. I will be putting up the Christmas tree at the same time as the show but I will be following this page.

Thank you so much for doing this. I feel like GAF would appreciate this institution of Irish television quite a bit.

What are your favourite Toy Show moments? There have been so many hilarious moments over the years. One of the most memorable was JohnJoe, the young lad who wanted to grow up to be a horologist.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't musical and dancing performances for the kids always been a big part of the show? Unless they've gotten more frequent.

Well they seemed a lot more frequent last year and the year before then the years before. Maybe its just me.

I kind of know one of those lads who performed last year, he performed at the Malahide festival as well. Little prick he is.

I was not expecting an OT for this, nice one OP! Christmas doesn't start until The Toy Show, I'll be putting up the tree a few hours beforehand. It may be time to crack open the box of Roses as well!

No one watches this for the toys. It's all about the banter.

Thinking that the €15,000 prize for last week's Late Late competition is second in value to the pair of Toy Show tickets they were giving out. You'd need a trailer to bring everything home.

I saw that awful TV3 show hosted equally poorly by Brian McFadden last year by accident, won't happen again. We didn't get to watch the Toy Show last year due to an incident at the exact same time it was on and while replays were on we couldn't focus on it so we're looking forward to sitting down with it this year and relaxing and enjoying it.

As cheesy as it was I liked that moment Ed Sheeran was on a few years back who sang with a fan and promised to try get her over to see him in London before one of his gigs as it was sold out, he seemed very genuine and liked he did that part on his own.

Congrats OP, you have just reminded me of how much I hate the Billy Barry kids. It's been a while since I watched, are them annoying gits still on it?

A GAF OT For the Toy Show. Never thought I'd see the day.

There's been some years where they've been absent. They definitely don't dominate the show like they used to.

Anyone remember any cringe-worthy moments in Toy Show history? There used to always be at least one or two a year. I vaguely remember some kid playing Tomb Raider 2 or 3, and then they surprised with the real life Lara Croft (whatever model was playing her at the time). He was supposed to be all impressed but clearly didn't give a shit, pretty funny.

When I was younger we used to mute the telly when they were on, just seemed really unfair that this one group were the only ones that got to perform on it. Not what you know, it's who you know etc.

subbed, anyone else here prefer Tubs doing it over Kenny? Tubs just seems much more naturally excitable and happy

The few times I've watched Tubridy do it I've always felt uncomfortable with how patronizing he is to the kids. Something else I've noticed is that they're always in a dash to get through as much as possible. I realize this is probably down to the production and sponsorship requirements meaning a large number of toys have to be shown but it feels very rushed at times. Not sure if this is specific to Tubridy. Pat always seemed patient with the kids at least, even if he was a bore.

I agree with this, I don't hate Tubridy like some but I do find there is something quite odd about how he interacts with people, and he really can be patronising to the kids on the Toy Show. Again some of it must be down to having to get through the show but still if other hosts managed to do it without being like that then he should.

I don't know if I'll watch it this year.
Been invited to one watching party, but not "feeling" it.

Tubridy has improved, but yeah, the need to move on can really hamper the moment.

The only thing I don't like about Tubs is his face, just seems so punchably annoying and I don't know why. But I like him as a talkshow host apart from just that.

Can't watch live this year because of a party but there's usually some pretty good Twitter happenings at #latelate or #latelatetoyshow. Every wag in the country will be out trying to get hot retweets and laughs. Think Fobwashed during a Giant Bomb stream.

Work Christmas party whyyyy you gotta be on the same night?

It'll be curious to see what hamfisted awkward moments come from this one.
