And you'd bet right. Because it's true.I bet some of the people that think the combat/gameplay in Witcher 3 is garbage are the same that think the Souldborne games have some of the best gameplay of all time.

Souls superfans are so insecure.

I'm talking about how fucking overly dramatic and annoying people get over what are ultimately very small quibbles in the overall scale of the game. It is not justifiable to dismiss the entire project and everything it's trying to accomplish over minor flaws nearly every other open world game has, it comes off as contrarian because a stink to this degree was never raised with Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption.
While you sit on that high horse for enjoying mindless hack and slash nonsense, I'll sit on this other high horse for appreciating intellectually developed games more interested in adult themes.
I never saw what was so "wrong" with the combat, honestly. On the main quest I was running a magic build and I had a blast. For the expansions I ran hybrid and I had a blast. You can even run bombs or full sword if you want.
And then they call Souls fan insecure.
If by mindless hack and slash you mean fantastic encounter design, strong level design, build variety, intersting integration of multiplayer, a good challenge and interesting lore that is not add odds with the ganeplay and asks player involvements that reaches beyond watching cut-scenes, then yes, I agree.
One thing I see a lot in Witcher 3 threads is people saying the combat is garbage. I just don't see it, I think the combat is fine personally, sure its not as refined as Bloodborne or Dark Souls but very few games are that good, it does the job though.

Like Geralt being a fanfiction character who is the best at everything, bangs hotties and everyone hates him because he did all of this in 2 simple steps?

Also, hack and slash is mindless, good grief he's not the only one sitting on that high horse.

I'm not a combat hater so there should be other "better" reasons for the criticism, but I dislike the overall feeling of it mainly due to Geralt's unresponsiveness, lack of combat variety and uninteresting progression that make the combat duller. I played on Death March and just plowed through the game using quick attacks and Quen (barrier magic?) regardless of the enemy type, using that trap magic whenever the occasional ghost came up.I dont think it is the best game, but i dont get the combat hate, what is wrong with the combat?

what? there are so many times when Geralt gets thrown into a situation where he is completely out of his depth which often provides some excellent comedy.

When you strip those things away, what you're left with are standard conventions of the RPG genre. Do you like RPGs?
It blows my mind that people are keep talking about this having bad combat. In an RPG. RPGs have mediocre combat at best. Compare this game to Skyrim, Fallout 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, FF XV. All of these games were AAA RPG titles from massive franchises, all of these games won some GotYs, all of them actually belong to the same genre. Not a single one of them even touches the combat of Witcher 3. I don't remember ever playing an RPG (not a game from some other random genre, like Souls) where I enjoyed combat as much.
A masterpiece. The entire Witcher trilogy is amazing, but Wild Hunt really blows everything else away. And I enjoyed the combat. Believe it or not, one can be a huge fan of the Souls series and also enjoy other combat mechanics.
I've always complained about the combat all the way back on reddit. Even combat aside the character tree is boring and unnecessarily restrictive. Not to mention that there's no real path that doesn't trivialize the game because the encounter design is poor and repetitive.
I honestly preferred TW1 combat to 2 or 3 by quite a lot.
Name a better RPG.It's great, but best game ever? nah
