To be fair they're the most recent releases and Nintendo missed out on the remasters of the Gamecube games and the HD port of Resident Evil 4.

Thanks to Wii U being a graveyard which I don't find a valueable point a reference for the future. Sure they can always pull out the old "not sure if audience=hype" excuse but the series has a strong history with Nintendo systems ever since the N64, the GBA being the only system without an RE game on it.

Maybe they can release a test game. Umbrella Corps would be perfect...

It's not like Nintendo doesn't do this almost every year on "Nintendo day" since years and manages to handle it pretty well.

Which is completely different, because:

1) Those games are either on different platforms (3DS/WiiU) which means that both audiences are never 100% aligned (in contrast to Switch). Not every 3DS owner owns a WiiU and vice versa.

2) Not released alongside the hardware that's needed to run those games in the first place. Consoles are a huge investment for most people, releasing 120 (full price Mario and Zelda) bucks worth of your absolutel finest premium content alongside 250+ bucks of hardware is a terrible idea any way you slice it.
Not only would both games compete with each other, it would completely suck the oxygen out of the room for thirdparty games.

So the launch if rumors are correct will be

Breath of the Wild
Splatoon
MARIO
Mario RPG 2

Plus whatever third party, indie , and VC games are out at launch.

Ooohhhhh that reminds me.

PORT DIVEKICK TO THE SWITCH YOU MOTHERFUCKERS. ITS THE PERFECT GAME FOR SAME SCREEN PORTABL3 MULTIPLAYER AHHHHHHH

Ahem. Please.

The Vita already has same screen portable multiplayer Divekick, but now you wouldn't have to huddle together and both hold the system.
This but with Nidhogg instead of Divekick.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I've been on record thinking a Zelda and 3D Mario launch was possible, but now that really does seem like overkill. Pretty clear that Zelda has enough hype to sell the system at launch.

I'm still not convinced whatsoever that Mario will be a launch game. Shigeru said himself sometime last year that it will more than likely be at e3 this year, and the footage of it on that Switch trailer looked a bit unfinished, but we'll see.

I think launching a Mario and Zelda game together at launch would be a big mistake personally.

I think having both Mario Switcharoo and Mario&Rabbids RPG seems pretty overkill, even if its two distinct genres.
So i think that if Mario Switcharoo makes it to launch, Zelda will be in June, while Mario RPG either in Spring, Summer or even later.
If Zelda launches with the Switch though, i can see Mario RPG releasing together as well, and Mario Switcharoo being in June.

If Zelda is a launch title then I'm sure the new Mario platformer will not be. Nintendo would hurt third party sales because the system would be so first party heavy. Although it hasn't been announced for the Switch, don't be surprised if Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World is a launch game considering it releases on the 3DS one month before the Switch comes out and I can't see them not porting it over.

I think it's more like...

Mario (RPG)
Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World
Splatoon
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

and year one (March 2017-2018) being...

Animal Crossing
Mario (3D Platformer)
Mario Kart
Mario Sports Superstars
Monster Hunter XX
Pikmin
Pokémon Stars
Pokkén Tournament
Super Mario Maker
Super Smash Bros.
Xenoblade Chronicles X

I'd rather have them all. Damn Nintendo fans being so picky. This is why you don't get all the third party support.
+ 1. The beginning hour demo is pretty cool and I really want to play it. I have a capable PC so there's always that option when the Switch won't get RE 7, but here's hoping the game will be released on the system. I have very few wishes regarding third party games, just give me Resident Evil, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite and Shin Megami Tensei and everything else will be a neat bonus.

This is exciting in the most vague way!

One of the best things about Nintendo porting Smash among other Wii U titles (if true) is that it frees up the original teams (like Sakurai) to work on new projects. Happy new year!

It's important to remember Sakurai's new game might not necessarily be with Nintendo, especially following Iwata's untimely passing.

With all of the attention that Mario is getting lately with the release of the mobile game, I don't think it will miss launch, especially since everything points toward it being ready. Mario is also more of a system seller than Zelda is, so I see no reason for them to rush BotW, which may have issues to sort out in the final period. And it's not in their interest to launch both major series simultaneously, either.

So I will continue to believe the original rumors that Mario is a launch title and Zelda is for June.

EDIT: Hopefully Mario won't be delayed if the new Zelda at launch rumors are true...

Ok, I'm going to guess when we will see the return of our beloved Nintendo IP's on the Switch. I leave the obvious ones out that we already know are on the way. I'm also assuming that there will be no 3DS successor.

2D Mario- 2018-2019
Animal Crossing- 2018-2019
F-Zero- 2018-2019*
Wave Race- 2018-2019*
Diddy Kong Racing- 2020-2021
Kirby- 2018-2019
Donky Kong Country- 2018-2019
3D Donkey Kong- 2020-2021
Star Fox- 2021-2022
Mario & Luigi- 2018-2019
Paper Mario- 2019-2020
Super Mario RPG (Square collaberation)- 2020-2021
Luigi's Mansion- 2019-2020
Kid Icarus- 2021-2022
SNES Remix- 2018
Metroid- 2017-2030??????????????????????
Golden Sun- HAHA
Mother- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

*-We will only get one or the other

If we get 60% of these I will be thrilled

Hey. We accept you as one of us but don't be ridiculous. Wait, are you still wearing your "Vita means Life" cap?
Of course. But Vita does mean life. That's why it lives on as Nintendo Switch. Soon the "you bought a Vita" gif will be replaced by "you bought a Switch".

Then the Vita resurrection will be complete.

Fuck yeah

Was getting worried with the rumors of a delay till summer

Woukd love to have Zelda at or close to launch

Though honestly i would like the smash port sooner. Starting to miss playing it since i sold my WiiU

Have this been posted?

This could be a hint for Sakurai's new game.

Happy New Year everyone!

Man if Nintendo brought back Custom Robo with Sakurai in charge...

Hmm, Zelda at launch does not sound like a bad deal. Will have to wait on Skyrim in that case, though, since I will have to juggle Zelda and Horizon in that time frame.

What is the track record of this Stealth guy? Does he have some verified leaks?

It's not just him saying it. Laura K D tweeted that her American source says Zelda at launch as well.

With BotW stated as just a 2017 release, I guess the exact release date really was up for debate at one point. My guess is that Nintendo was always shooting for launch, but feared extreme backlash in case of failure to meet that deadline, so they gave themselves an insurance date.

If I was Nintendo, I'd truly channel all the spirits I could to make that launch date though.

I don't think so, did Sakurai ever made a non-Nintendo game since he made Smash 64 ?
He is on Nintendo hands and won't move from there.

Btw that Stealth guy is not an insider and is famous for saying a lot of bullshit concerning rumors he made up.
EDIT : Now that I look again, Sakurai never made a game on anything else than Nintendo systems. So yeah, his next game is obviously a Switch game.

So posing a bit of a different question...

We know the Switch has a share button right? But we all know how anal Nintendo is about uploading footage to Youtube. How is the share button going to affect this? Are they going to relax their policies?

Maybe the date really was June because of localization problems, but then something happenned that problems were gone.
