Three in January - Unclog Your Backlog

[WiiU]Pokken Tournament - in progress
[WiiU]Paper Mario: Color Splash - in progress
[3DS]7th Dragon III: VFD - in progress

I don't think there is enough time in the month to 100% Pokken and Paper Mario but I'll see how it goes.

My backlog is sagging my bookshelf, so here's to slimming it down!

Pokemon Sun (3DS)-Second Island
World Of Final Fantasy (PS4)-I'm getting close to the final boss, (I think?)
can't seem to put it down!
Dragon Quest Builders(PS4)-final chapter kicking my butt, plus I'm distracted trying to finish the challenges and speedruns for previous chapters for my first Platinum!

Good luck to everyone!

I used to post on these threads a couple of years ago! I'm back now and I'm ready to clear my backlog.

1) Pokemon Sun [3DS] - On the 2nd island right now. Loving it so far.
2) Pokemon Omega Ruby [3DS] - I've been at the elite 4 for the past four months or so. Time to finally finish this one off.
3) Mario Kart 8 [WiiU] - Gonna finish 3 starring all the cups.

I think I'll try for...

1. Twilight Princess HD - I've started it, I enjoy it, and my bf keeps bugging me to play it so he can watch. Might as well finish it.

2. Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest - I want to beat 20 RPGs this year, and this is one of the many SRPGs that have fallen by the wayside.

3. Alan Wake's American Nightmare - I need a shorter game so I don't go insane, and my Steam backlog is the largest of my systems. (not beatable due to dead computer, but I beat another game anyway)

Ive got a bunch but lets start with INSIDE

I need to clear this back log.
Nier

I watched this video instead of playing through when I realized how long it would take and that the gameplay left quite a bit to be desired...

FFXV -
Trying to get through Costlemark to get the final Royal Arm, then the Adamatoise to get the platinum.
Oxenfree - Just started, heard it's quite good and worth playing through
Dishonored 2

Uncharted 4
Zelda Twilight Princess
FF XV

I'll never really catch up with my backlog though. Wife, job, 14 month old and a second on the way takes up the majority of my time. Grateful though that I have them.

I can probably manage 3 in January.

Finished Uncharted 4 on the 1st/2nd actually. Started after family stuff on New Year's ended, and happened to stay up until about 2 since I could tell I was close to the end. Really liked the story it told and the way it ended.

I've started Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero. I'm sure the game probably isn't too long, and it's fun enough that I want to keep playing.

I also just recently grabbed FFXV and Geometry Wars 3. XV is probably long enough that I won't finish it within the month, but I'm gonna start digging in. People keep talking to me abut XV, and I want to at least be familiar with it. GW3 though, the story mode seems simple enough to make it through pretty quick (getting all those stars is tough though, at least before you get a bunch of upgrades.)

Also planning to keep working on FFVII this month. Started forever ago, but picked it back up in December thanks to time off, and finally made it through disc 1.

Oh boy, I'm gonna try my hardest to finish these games

Hitman (Just beat the tutorial)
The Witcher 3 (Just got to Velen?)
And Final Fantasy XV

Only hard part is how to go about attacking these games. Which one I should start with first, should I alternate days?

I'm going to try for:

PS4:
Last Guardian (just got it)

PS2:
Dark Cloud (beaten it before, but I want that platinum!)

PSV:
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (just in time for Next Order)

Man, just for The Witcher 3 alone you could set aside a month or three, depending on your time. I think I had over 100 hours on the clock just to finish the main game (including most of the side quests).

Awesome! I signed up for the 52 games a year via the official thread, but I'm still hesitant I can even do that. I have a full time job, a wife, and a daughter. Therefore, I find this to be much easier for me to obtain. I'm in.

January

1. Dishonored (PS4) --- I finished the main story, and I do t really feel like playing any of the DLC right now. Therefore, I've knocked one off the list, though I beat this on Steam a few years ago.
2. Firewatch (PS4) --- I just finished the prologue.
3. TBA

Uncharted 3 - Crushing complete. Would like to do cleanup for plats in all three games now that all treasure and crushing runs are finished in the remaster collection.

RoTR - Just casually working through it, eventually plan to try and nab the plat.

MH4U - Casually pushing through now and again, really want to keep progressing for all the crossover DLC gear.

Pillars of Eternity/TitS/Tyranny - Sometime I will actually push through these this year.

Persona 3: Portable

Shantae: Risky's Revenge (finished the first Shantae right at the end of 2016 and will play through the rest sometime this year).

Bayonetta 1 on Wii U. It's high time I get through my smallest backlog which is the Wii U, just in time for the Switch's release.

1. Platinum Albedo (trash game. One of the worst looking/playing games I've ever seen)

2. Platinum Nero

3. Platinum Day of the Tentacle

Already finished Inside at 100% of the trophies so I'm already on a good pace.

I'll bite on this. Maybe it will hold me somewhat accountable.

1) Skyrim remaster - my issue with this is I'm going for platinum, and while I could "finish" it quite easily at this point, getting all these trophies is a big undertaking. I may rush to the end, then go back later and clean up the trophies. Some of them are time consuming (thieves guild, daedric artifacts, etc)

2) Metal Gear Solid V - I think I'm somewhere around Mission 30-ish? I kept delaying for the same reasons as Skyrim - trophies. Maybe it's time to just finish the damn thing though.

3) So many choices here. Maybe someone can help me decide. Wolfenstein: Old Blood, Life is Strange, KZ: Shadowfall, Resident Evil 6.

Neat idea. Given my awful completion rate with games (and inability to stop buying new ones) I'm gonna stick to some very short ones to kick off the new year.

I'll go for:

Inside: It's only 2-3 hours and I've had it for months now. About time I got it done.

Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons (PS4): Another short one to start the year off. At this rate it may be 6 in January.

Unravel Or The Swapper: Both have been hanging over me for a while now. I loved them at first but got a bit bored (or distracted) so they ended up on the back burner.

edit: Oh I just remembered I finished The Bunker on Monday so I'm 1up already. Go me!

Hope to play through at least three of the following:

Dishonored (on Mission 6 already)
Final Fantasy IV interlude
Sonic the Hedgehog
Fallout 3
Resogun

Nailed out two short games off my list to feel like I made progress.

Stuck in a quagmire in finishing Dishonored and FFIV interlude as I really don't have much more to go on either one. (probably about 3-4 hour in Dishonored and an hour or so for FF)

Just started FO3 so the likelihood of me finishing it this month are slim.

I was successful last month, so let's see if I can do it again.

1. Persona 3 Portable - I got through so much of this game last month, I think with another week or so put into I I can polish off the whole thing.

2. Where Is My Heart? - I've been sitting on this game for years. Now is the time! Now!

3. Destiny: Rise of Iron - I have a feeling I'm not going to renew my PS Plus at the end of this month, so I'm going to try & finish the accomplishments for ROI that I haven't done yet. They're all based on group activities so it could be tricky to time, but I'll do my best.

First month for me and boy am I pumped to work through my (ever-expanding) backlog. Happy New Year! So here are my three~

1. Tales From the Borderlands - I'm partway through episode three so this should be pretty attainable. It would be nice to be able to wrap this up before starting Telltale Batman.

2. Inside - Bought it in one of the holiday sales and have been itching to play it. Final Fantasy XV has been eating my time but I'm going to prioritize this soon.

3. Firewatch - Started it so long ago I barely remember where I am. Figure I might as well restart and bang it out in a session of play or two.

Bonus: Finishing my Uncharted Drake's Fortune platinum. Pretty much have to clear Crushing and I'm good.

My backlog has finally reached beyond critical mass, so this is the first time I'm going to participate in one of these challenges. It'll be extra difficult with a six-month-old, but I need to start making a serious dent. My goal is to start clearing out some of my shorter, unplayed games before moving on to the heavy hitters later this year.

Up this month:

Inside
Firewatch
Virginia

Bonus: Finally get around to finishing Uncharted 4.

Seems doable, but I only get a few hours a week, and every time I sit down I just play Titanfall 2 MP.

I probably won't finish them all but I've been playing Doom, The Last Guardianand Uncharted 3 so hopefully I can finish at least two.

Finished Odallus: The Dark Call yesterday. So that makes two for this month.

Finished
1. Firewatch
2. Odallus: The Dark Call

Hoping to start Oxenfree tonight. Currently I've finished 3/6 of my steam winter sale purchases. Not bad!

Currently playing
1. Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright
2. The Witcher 3: Heart of Stone

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin: Finished. I made a LTTP thread about the game if you want to read my thoughts on it.

Shantae: Half Genie Hero: Complete. A fun game although not as good as it's predecessor (Pirate's Curse)

DOOM (2016): A great follow up to the classic Doom games. I really hoep this starts a revival of this type of FPS.

I did it! I've managed to beat three games this month. Can I squeeze a fourth in there?

Dark Souls III: In Progress

I was planning on working my way through Witcher 3 (the expansion packs, I've already beat the main campaign), Trails in the Sky FC, and Inside. So far I've spent 14 hours playing Trails and probably won't even touch the other games this month because of how addicting Trails is.

Hope to play through at least three of the following:

Dishonored
Final Fantasy IV interlude
Sonic the Hedgehog

Fallout 3
Resogun

Added:
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
Arkham Asylum Remaster

Finished off quite a few short games for the month to clean up the backlog some. Out of what I finished, I enjoyed Dishonored the most. I had bought the game for PS3, but never played it, so when I got it for "free" for my PS4, I was glad to finally have a chance.

First time doing this, lets see how it goes.

January

1. Super Mario 3D Land --- Finished it when the game came out years ago but I'm replaying through it since I got a new 3D Land bundle. I'll also tackle special worlds this time around.
2. CoD Infinite Warfare --- Loan from a friend so obviously gotta finish it asap
3. Inside --- Played for about an hour when it came out, but this game deserves a single continuous playthrough so I'll start over again.

Bonus
4. Captain Toad Treasure Tracker --- Part of my WiiU backlog clearing schedule before Switch comes out
5. Oxenfree --- Bought during sale and first in line of my PSN backlog.

Finished

- Titan Souls (~4 hours and 300 deaths on Vita) neat little game but don't play it if you don't feel patient or you might smash your console against a wall ;)

- The Last Guardian: yet another Team ICO masterpiece, alas it'll probably be the last ;( patience is a requirement here too.

To be finished:

- Thumper VR
- Unravel
- Eagle Flight

Edit: finished Unravel and Abzu, gonna push Eagle Flight and Thumper VR to February ;)

Unravel is a gorgeous little game, the shallow depth of field adds a photo like quality to the graphics. Really enjoyed the climbing physics with the woolen string and the little puzzles.

Abzu looks nice too, in a more cartoony way though and it really is a relaxing game ;) It's like a mix of Journey and Flower under the sea.

So far this month I've finished:

Kirby Planet Robobot
Titanfall 2

And I really wanna finish:

World of Final Fantasy
Undertale

And possibly:

GTA V

Oh yeah, I'm getting in on this action! I may even 1-UP or DOUBLE 1-UP three games into four or five (maybe six even)!

I should complete these this month:

Fallout 4

Titanfall 2

Mercury

Silent Hill 2

Bioshock

Motorstorm: Arctic Edge

Finally a month where I can participate.
So far I've cleared 4 games this month.

1. The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask 3D
2. The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds
3. Power Rangers Super Legends
4. Valkyrie Profile 2 Silmeria

I actually started playing VP2 eight years ago, but finally got around to do the last parts of the game.

My backlog has exploded so I better get started now

JANUARY
1. Dishonored 2 - I should probably just live through the technical issues and see if it lives up to the first
2. Final Fantasy XV - Halfway through, disappointed, but I'll get it over with
3. Kingdom Hearts - Want to get through the whole series so where better place to start

Time to clear out the back log...

1) Her Story: I got admin access and then accidentally deleted my save file (2nd time I've done this already). Time to 100% it.

2) Undertale: I don't remember where I left off but I'm determined to finish this highly praised game at least once. I'm quite far in.

3) Tales of Berseria: I marathoned the ending of this game a few days back and cleared out the post/hidden dungeon/quests and all the trophies I can easily get. I'm confident to say I'm finished with this game for the near future.

Bonus round: Finish Infamous: First Light? Haven't even started the game but I heard it's short. Played the heck outta SS and got this game when I got my console 2.5 years ago. Time to clear it out? Firewatch: Cute little game, loved fhe graphics but my motion sickness (first person view) made it really hard to finish it.

Bonus round 2: Continue and try to finish Bravely Second (ch. 1), Persona 5 (September), FFXV (ch. 3). P5 is probably the only one I can realistically finish in January, but I'm gonna slowly and surely work towards the end of these JRPGs.

I need to finish up DmC:Definitive Edition and my backlog is clear.

Hard to fit it in between bouts of Titanfall and pokemon though.

Great idea - three seems to be actually doable, well, I dunno, maybe?

1) Uncharted 4: I think I'm only a couple of hours away. I hope.
2) Doom: A bit scary because I don't have a clear idea how much I have left, definitely 5 hours or more.
3) Can't decide for a third, I don't have short games left that I want to finish I don't think :/

AXIOM VERGE

screen5bigpfulk.jpg

First completed game for 2017!

That was fun! I wonder how long it took Happ to make this. It was a very clever game. Lots of neat things that really wasn't done before in a game like this with the powers. Can't quite tell what's going on with the weapons as there's so many types but it really must have been a missive of love for the guy to do this whole game himself. Great music, good bosses; good enough story too.

highly recommended! 8/10.

Firewatch - Finished over two nights this weekend, wonderful game.

MGSV - I stopped playing this at about main mission 10 in Oct. 2015, mostly due to boredom and more interesting games out. I'm getting into it now that I'm plugging away at missions faster. Not sure how long it will take, but it might bleed over into February, given what I've heard about the padding missions towards the end of the game.

Edit: Got the true ending, built Mother Base all the way, and finished the Side Ops, so technically I feel like I'm done. The remixed main missions are something I'll get to eventually.

Three-Fourths Home - I've read this game takes an hour, so that'll be easy. :)

I just finished Tyranny last night (amazing btw) and have some short indies to play next:

Abzu
Inside
Firewatch

Looking forward to play them!

Almost done.

Bastion (Finished) - Thoroughly inferior to one of the alltime greats - Transistor - but still a fun little romp. This is probably my fourth attempt and finishing it, and I finally made it. Glad it's over though.

Need for Speed 2015 (Finished) - Platinumed the game. Had a lot of fun. The Real-actor footage is super goofy, but grows on you surprisingly fast. Tonally a fitting way for a game like NfS.

DOOM (Finished) - What a game! Will definitely land on my GotY list. Scratches a similiar itch as Hotline Miami did (My fourth fav game of alltime), with blood-bounding music and ultra-fast gameplay.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst (Currently Playing) - The 11€ was too good to not take advantage, and man...this is probably my Watch_Dogs of 2017 already. A game that was critically not well received and disappointed many fans due to expectations, but I have an amazing time. Fluid controls, no motion sickness on my end, a fun and speedy story. Stylish. And I can easily ignore the ridiclious number of collection-items. For a discount this gets a huge recommendation from me! Might creep on my GotY 2016 list before the deadline!

I am also playing Darks Souls III and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided currently, but not sure if I will make it with either of those. Not because of quality, mind you, but because of time.
And from this month' releases Gravity Rush 2 is a lock. Might get one more game out of REVII, KH2.8 & Yakuza 0 - which I could also beat depending on the situation.
On the downside: Started and deleted both Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition after an hour or so. The first one has shitty movement and the second one frustrated me with garbage platforming.

A really strong start into the year for me personally.

Here are the games that I have beaten this month:

1. POSTAL Redux
2. SENRAN KAGURA Bon Appétit! - Full Course
3. Pony Island
4. REFUNCT
5. Aozora Meikyuu
6. Wildstar

I am not sure what I'll beat next.

Finally having some extra days off this month from work so hopefully, I can do better in 2017 than I did in 2016. Depending on how many games I buy and play this year, my goal is to not have a backlog at all going into 2018. LOL. :)

OVERALL 2016: 15/36 (42%)

1 - Doom / PS4 PRO
Was playing on and off since October 19th and finally finished the single player campaign two weeks ago. Good 8/10 FPS but too fast paced for me and prefer humans/mechs over demons so I can easily say that this will either be the third or fourth best FPS of 2016 for me depending on how the below FPS plays out. Don't play online.

JANUARY 2017

1 - Mafia III / PS4 PRO
Started playing this yesterday and have already cleared out the Hollow. Gameplay needed a few more months of work and no HUD options, etc. is disappointing. Music, sound and voice acting is easily a 10/10 thus far and story/characters is also a 10/10 thus far. Will see how everything plays out but eight or so hours in, im enjoying the game thus far.

2 - Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare / PS4 PRO
Played through three chapters of the single player campaign and it's pretty good thus far. Still have a ways to go though. Don't play online.

3 - Watch Dogs 2 / PS4 PRO
Only played through the tutorial. Decided to start Mafia III instead of this or COD: IW since the last three games I played and completed were all first person shooters so I wanted to give myself a little break from that genre.

Antichamber
Tokyo Mirage Session #FE
Shinobi III

I reached the ending of Antichamber. I know there is more to the game after this though. Such puzzle games give me trouble. I was getting stuck here and there. Sometimes when I looked up a solution I realized that I probably could have worked it out aside from a few. Now that we are in the post game section though I figure I'll be looking up solutions more. Fun game but seeing GAFers say they finished it in 4 hours or so makes me a much slower player. Or rather a player that was definitely getting stuck more than the average seasoned gamer. Hard to say if I will try to find all the pictures that you run into when completing a room. I'm eager to solve rooms that have been left alone or unfinished but I figure since I was getting stuck often I may be demotivated more often than would be fun.

Bayonetta 2 (Wii U) - In Progress
Assassin's Creed 2 (PS4) - In Progress
Resident Evil 5 (PS4) - In Progress

Still got a shit load of backlog games and January releases at the end of the month will not help my case.

Ive got a bunch but lets start with INSIDE

Im about halfway through the game but Ive finally decided on 2 more titles.

Inside - 2 hours in
Kirby Planet Robobot - Reached the 4th world map area. Love this game so much
Dishonored 2 - About an hour or two in, still on the first assassination mission.

Have already finished 3 games this month. Taking a break from online shooters to dig into the PS4 backlog is helping.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Started late last year but finished it a couple of days into 2017

Watch Dogs 2 Started and finished late last week and over the weekend.

Dishonored 2 How long to beat told me this would take roughly 11 hours, finished in a touch over 6 hours over the last 2 days.

Im glad that this months thread is getting more activity than usual. I guess the new years motivated people to tackle their backlogs.

Keep it coming folks!
