It's not a movie, but there's a Henry Rollins spoken word thing from way back that I've always found kind of uplifting. Starts here and rolls into the next part.

Also not a movie, but the Electro-Shock Blues album by Eels does the trick for me too, but it requires a full listen.

Brooklyn is a good recommendation although it does have some mild sex scenes just fyi.

I'd recommend Hunt for the Wilderpeople which is a film from the last year. It's a very sweet comedy and my wife and I really enjoyed watching it over Christmas.

OP if you or your GF are not opposed to anime films then I highly suggest checking out Colorful

Be prepared for a gut punch or two but I assure you by the time the ending rolls around life will feel thoroughly affirmed.

Apatow movies

Don't know if this is a guy thing but for me most buddy movies are positive: Shane Black movies or Four Brothers and stuff like that

300 Days Of Summer

Freddy Got Fingered

Adventureland

Maybe this is a dangerous pick but I felt pretty good after Wristcutters

Driving Miss Daisy

- Won Best Picture
- Great Performances by Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman
- No swearing
- Great relationship that grows over time and feels genuine

"Intouchables"

It's a french movie not to get mixed up with Connery et al. I love showing it to people, it sounds like it's ganna be a bit of a dredge/saccharine/overly sentimental, but it's actually just wonderful.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. Gets me happy feelings.

And also sense8(Christmas special) is filled with happy feelings. If you haven't watched the series it's really good.

Walter Mitty is such a great feel good movie. Also it looks amazing on blu ray.

I'll have to rewatch sometime soon.

Speaking of Amelie, check out Chocolate. It's a sort of lighthearted movie about chocolate and romance. It does have some sad parts but I think the ending was also happy.

Another nod to Good Will Hunting - one of the best ever. Cinderella Man is another good one. Man on Fire is good, but not something that your gf may like. Love Actually might be the best chick flick ever.

It's was actually the highest grossing non-english speaking movie ever for a while (416 million dollars worldwide) and most of it through of word of mouth. People really love this movie. I like it, but Amelie is definitely my favourite french feel-good.

I'll add Castaway on the Moon. Lovely Korean feel-good. It's about a guy that ends up on an island in the middle of the city after a failed suicide attempt, but is stuck there because he can't swim.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Crazy, Stupid, Love. Ok, might have to scratch this, it may have crude humor...

Props to the ones who posted The Pursuit of Happiness.

And you can never go wrong with Good Will Hunting, The Truman Show.

Forrest Gump?

IMO Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is kind of depressing.

About Schmidt

Alexander Payne's most underrated film and IMO Jack Nicholson's best, most nuanced performance. Deals with loss and family estrangement but is very touching and occasionally hilarious. The ending is the definition of life affirming.
