The best traps in gaming

Playing through Let It Die right now and found the randomly generated traps really cool. You can see a room is a trap room, but it wont always trigger and you have no idea what you'll be fighting if it does trigger.

Souls games obviously come to mind too.

What are your fave traps in games?

Monster Hunter Pitfall traps. Fits in your pouch yet contains a mechanism that digs through tons of solid earth, ice, rock or sand in seconds, combined with enough camouflage to conceal it. What a trap.

Poison Mushroom from Lost Levels have to be up there

Hilarious how the lives of the most killed minority are supposed to exist just to make men gay since we are supposed to go to all that trouble so that society accept us as women to actually date a guy and says "LOL you are now gay because you fucked another dude"

The Evil Within did this so well

There are so many traps in every level, the second you drop your guard you run right into an explosive or get your head chopped off somehow

I know people really knock the game for unfair one hit KOs and such but I liked it because despite dying it feels like the devs are having fun (and it didn't really set you back that far). It helps too that you can pretty much use every trap on enemies too. The giant helicopter blade section is hilarious

The traps in Gauntlet Dark Legacy. They're very effective, because I will hit at least ten of them on any given level.

Let it die traprooms are nice in their own right, but they're more ambushes you can't do anything about rather than proper traps.

The pressure plates in Bloodborne are probably the best traps I've seen. They're naturally placed in the environment and you need a keen eye to spot them or quick reflexes to get out of the way.

Edit: Mimics are garbage. It might be a cool surprise the first time. After that you either look for the tells (if there are any) or just hit every chest. Boring busywork.

Probably the poison mushroom in the Lost Levels. So evil... And not so much a trap, but those warp zones in the game that send you backwards instead of forwards.

Metal Gear Solid has some great traps in general, especially in MGS1 to MGS3.

MGS1 basement. I always seem to forget they're there.

MGS2 explosives, had to shoot extinguisher to figure out that you could crawl under the beams.

The area where you fight The Fear in MGS3.
The list goes on.

DotA Techies mines at the runes is a classic. It being too obvious makes it even better. Or back in original DotA days dropping a stat stick as a bait on top of mines. The most obvious trap that people still fell to.

Half Life 2 Deadmatch mines at sharp turns leading to rocket launcher.

A recent addition to the growing number of mimics in games.

Scary? No. Threatening? Absolutely not. Cute? As all hell!

There's an area I'm going through now in BoF4 that's nothing but traps. Definitely not the best traps, but goddamn is it annoying.

Recently, I've enjoyed the traps in Shadow Tactics. Put one in a bush, whistle = instant vanished guard.

Another vote for Dark Souls Mimic

I always enjoyed the Mimic on Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. See one of them in a non-turn-based game was great

Seconding the invisible Amygdala's. I was weary of all chests in Dark Souls when I started, so I didn't really get tricked by those, but the Amygdala definitely nailed me in Bloodborne.

Tomb Raider 3: Madubu Gorge level

This trap is the worst I think. After a ridiculously long and challenging traversal beforehand, the game whips up this beauty. Surprised by that boulder? then how about another one... and if that didn't catch you off guard, then the 3rd boulder will. I attempted to do this part for a while.

When Grenth wins the Wintersday finale in Guild Wars 1, seeing players trying to pick up the Wintersday Gifts (which doesn't give a gift but instead kills the player that picked it up) is kind of funny.

What game is this so that I know to never play it.

Edit: Fuuuuck, DD is in my backlog.

Not anymore :D
😁 😁 😁 😁 😁

Don't worry it's not all bad as long as your not alone or have shit ton of health or cast some spell before that can interrupt the attack.
